hospital thread

Post by reni »

this place is for all injured shredders... i saw that a lot of shredders (also BAP's) have knee problems or other kind of arduous injurys. so just post everything that is related to this hospital thread. express your feelings, frustrations, ideas or hopes! maybe your posts are also supporting the curability of your injurys or they just help you to get along better with your pain and your lack of shred. all non-injured and ex-injured shredders are welcome to give us tips and console us.

personally i have big troubles with my hips. one day i feel great and it seems like im not injured and the next day i can't even walk normally because of the pain. so i'm completely at my injurys mercy! this sucks. next week i'll go to the doctor for a third try and he'll make a scan etc...
but i try to stay optimistic and thats why i still play with the fact that i'll be able to shred again this summer. actually i've planed to go to worlds this year (because i was never at worlds before and it seems like it's gonna be a great week in montreal). but on the other hand its maybe a bit exaggerated to pay as much of you're not sure if you'll able to shred there. but however, this problem is a peanut.
the hard thing is to stop an activity, you've done for 2 years almost once a day. i didnt shredded for a month now and my shredfuture is uncertain.

so keep on kickin'... if you can

It would be sad to loose a person like you - a very gifted shredder and an active promoter of footbag and of course a very nice charakter (as far as I know from GFO 03 and the boards).

Hope that your hip will work in future and cu at a tournament soon .

Good luck

My right ankle (strong side) was twisted. Befor the accident I was sick for 3 weeks, and befor sickness I had problems with knees. I didn't play for 12 weeks. Now I'm after 3rd session. I feel pain in my ankle but it is that same... It isn't bigger during and after shredding. I think that I can play but I pay attention on my ankle.

I just got knee surgery, I tore my meniscus. I've been dealing with osgood slaughter for years as well. My knees aren't the best, but after shredding for about 10 mintues I usually forget about it. Sometimes when I shred I feel a pop in my hip, like right where the joint is. I don't know what it is.

I used to have ridiculously bad shin splints (both sides  ) for like a year, but now i think ive gotten past them *touch wood*. Through constant stretching, playing on carpet when i am schooling alone, resting when it gets too bad, eating more protein, and just playing through it when i can, i think im getting there. it comes back every now and then, but normally its when i play a few hardsessions back to back, or try a high impact move many times

so ppl with shin splints, believe that it will get better! i used to think i would never get passed it but i feel alot better these days than say, 5 months ago for example. It still pops up on occassion, but no where near as bad

oh ive never had any other injury, apart from tenderness in my right knee after schooling flip Pixies one hour a day for a week  :?

I'm almost certain that what my doctor diagnosed as shin splints was actually a stress fracture. It took a ridiculously long time to heal, and I took like a full three weeks off, then built up very slowly, from just kicking through non impact stuff like spinning and ducking. Now I have pain only when I shred for two hours on consecutive days, things like that, and it's gone the next day.

I have been out now for over a month. I am seriously considering going to the doctor, but I'm not sure if I want to get surgery. It seems like such a crazy thing to endure to play more footbag. My pain is in the underside of my right knee... And I think it might be one or more of the tendons in there. I feel completely awful that I can't play, and when I do play I can only hit the basics. If I try to do any tripless shred my knee feels like crap. It is tough though, because I can't seem to run anymore or do anything physical. Perhaps I will consider surgery for this reason if it is necessary, but I am horribly upset that I have lost a sport that I love. Hopefully this is only temporary, but I fear that if and when I return to footbag, that I will endure more injuries.

Ricky, I am so sorry about what happened to you. I know you feel about 100 times as bad as I do (if that is even possible.) It is very aggravating that someone can put so much time into a sport, do everything right and with proper form, and then be yanked out. I know, I am being fairly depressing, but I thought I would get some of my frustrations out in this thread.

Good luck to all injured shredders. I hope you all make full recoveries soon!

hey ian, there is an exercisee that you can do to help with shin splints. put a little more of your wieght on one foot, and put some wieght on the top of it(i use a bag or backpack with a couple of books that i can balance with my hand) and then keep your heel down and pump your toes up and down until you feel the burn in your shin, then repeat for other side. i find that it can help pretty well

Post for a friend:

I taught one of my best friends how to play footbag about 3 years ago; he was getting goo quite fast and showed excellent potential. He had good, but worn legs and related joints, from skateboarding and inline skating for a decade. Anyway, we were shredding outside at a farmer's market and he had the bag, and all the sudden, he goes for a paradox mirage and SNAP! He went down for the count: in mid mirage, he tore his ACL. He has not seriously played footbag since. He prolly wont ever play again because he did not get the proper surgery completed and then he did not properly rehabilitate it. A lesson to you all! Take care of your injuries!
