Hybrid Can't Breathe

Post by Fu Xi »

Well... here is my best of 2 days of shred. I believe my strings are way too short. Or maybe i believe they should be longer even tho thats pushing myself too much?

Nice stuff!
I think your style looks good, and I didn't really see anything that looked like a problem.

If you want to hit longer runs I would suggest long hours of drilling the one move. As far as I know this is the only thing that works. If you find doing the one combo boring just hit runs, but focus on a particular move and try to hit it as often as you can. For example today I was working on ducking butterflies so I was hitting runs like: Dive butterfly>ripwalk>duck butterfly>butterfly>dive butterfly>pdx mirage>dimwalk>dive butterfly>spin clip>dive butterfly>duck butterfly> etc.

Drilling some combos will also help. Do something like ripwalk>butterfly>butterfly>ripwalk repeat and keep going till you drop it. Also set goals for how many contacts in the drill you want to hit.

But anyway good work - you've improved a great deal since the last video I saw!

first off, I think you've got the potential to have really smooth, even style. You're off to a good start, there's just a few things.

as per your request:

stand up a bit straighter for better balance. find a beat that works well with the speed of your style, and practice playing right on the beat. start off just doing alternating clippers or infinities or alternating toes. This will help you get a feel for playing with the bag at an even speed, which really encourages smoothness.

Your arms and body look like they're pretty relaxed and controlled most of the time, keep that up. school alternating ducking clippers hard; this will encourage your legs to build up that quick twitch that you need to do a high clipper set with minimal motion.

that's all I can think of right now. Good job, Rob. keep working.

That was great. I don't have any tips as you are better than me.

You've gotten a lot smoother and fluent through your moves, props to that. No tips, just keep playing and have fun.

I finally got around to watching this video. I'm so glad I did. This is one of the most fun videos I've watched in a while. The music was really good, the shred was really good (GREAT balance of guilts trips and fears -- your style just looks really confident and not complete (because I know you will grow out of the leaning and things that other people mentioned that I didn't even feel needed mentioning).)
The bothsided pixie sets made me really happy. So did the bothsided butterflies and osis' in the first clip -- I was so afraid you wouldn't osis on the other side and it was soo relieving to see that. I shouldn't say relieving, but it really made it more enjoyable for me to watch (the bothsidedness :D
Thanks for the video Rob!
