Torn meniscus...

About mid summer, last summer, I tore my meniscus. I finally went to a doctor this past winter about it, got an MRI, and eventually got surgery on it in Feb. I was able to ski 2 weeks after the surgery with doctor's consent, but my knee still gave me pain. The doctor said it was normal, and said the healing process would take a while, but it STILL gives me pain sometimes... especially when i use that leg as my support leg. I also have osgood slaughter on both knees. Does anyone know about what I'm going through, or know if it's still normal to have pain ?

After something like that, it's not surprising. Not to mention the surgery cut though muscles, I'm sure. Just try to take it easy on your legs for a while. It's no use to try and compound the injury.

I was hoping footbag would help it actually. I was thinking it would make me more flexible + my knees stronger.

It's the cartilege in your knee joint that absorbs shock and provides a smooth surface for the bones to rub agaisnt in the joint as they move. What happened was a piece of it tore, and got wedged between the two bones causing discomfort, and it sometimes caused my knee to lock up. Very painful.

i would recommend getting your knees more flexible + strong before you try any footbag. footbag does help flexibility and strength, but if you have bad form on any of your moves, your current lack of flexibility + strength will make your knees worse.

I had the same problem & surgery at the start of the year. I couldn't walk at all for a month or two between accident and surgery. I can now shred long without pain as long as I don't do certain concepts with my left leg (downtime whirls, & double downs are the worst). This will clearly will limit my game substantially. The surgeon reckons it's as good as it's gonna get now. Plus we have terrible arthritis to look forward to in old age, due to no longer having that shock-absorbing cartelage (which won't grow back). Obviously the surgeon doesn't know just how high impact footbag is, so the arthritis may be coming sooner than we think.... sorry to be a negative Nancy Sinatra.
So the sensible thing might be to quit now and save yourself some trouble later. Or you could live fast and die young like me

Jack at Strung Out tore his meniscus at funtastiks last year and it doesn't bother him anymore. Give it time I guess.

yeah, he got a bunch of them.
