Symple Paradox and PS

Post by Splint »

How about defining a term or label for Symple Paradox moves. Using "PS" for both Paradox Symposium and Paradox Symple is too confusing.

Pymple was comedically suggested by Damon (funny AND stupid :P ), but we should have something else. "SP" doesn't sound so hot.

Any suggestions?

If I gave you PS Whirl and PS Blender, could you easily tell me which one was Symple and which was Symposium?

Yes I could, but I still think it's an important distinction that should be made for those who otherwise couldn't.

Snap Bledner
Smap Drifter

Smap because SyMple PAradox. I invert 'A' and 'P'.
And Snap because it sounds cooler than Smap :P

I vote pymple. that's got the perfect blend of stupid and catchiness.

And it just snaps off the tongue. (I avoided saying rolled off because I'd really rather not think about things rolling off any part of me)

yeh i dont like Pymple at all... im not that big a fan of stupid names being added into the framework of our sport, but thats just my humble opinion

If we have PS already to denote Paradox Symposium, thats already very entrenched, we could just have PSym to denote Paradox Symple. and when speaking to someone about it, you would just say, 'Paradox Symple' or 'Symple Paradox'. i dunno... im not sure its a huge problem... just write the word Symple and it will be so much easier... and once uve been playing for a couple of months u will know what can and cant be symposium, so if someone accidently writes eg. PS Drifter, you know that its Symple and not symposium

Pymple sounds too much like Puempel (almost the same pronounciation),
which is a german word for those sink/toilet rubber-with-a-stick suckers
to get rid of pipe congestion.

Seriously, how about Psy?

Like, Psy Blender etc. or maybe Psi? or Spy? I've made my suggestions.

I like Psy.

ISn't it "incorrect" to say Symple Paradox Blender? In my thinking, you name tricks chronologically.

Sort of like Ducking Paradox Whirl vs. Paradox Ducking Whirl.

How I see it, Paradox is a location aspect, whereas Symple is an actual variation to the trick itself. You can do a Symple Blender. And you can do a Paradox Symple Blender. I don't think it makes as much sense intuitively to hit a Symple Paradox Blender.

It would be like saying Symple ss Legover. It makes it sound like a set rather than just the trick itself. ss Symple Legover.

Maybe I'm full of it. Makes sense to me. :?

A person that doesn't know the difference between PS whirl and PS blender just doesn't understand the concept of simple vs symposium. Once you understand what can be symposium and can't, then you don't need another name to complicate things. If you were to add another name to differentiate the term PS, people will still not completely understand the concept of simple and symposium, they will just know there are different names for them. A waste of time to come up with and learn new names when all you have to do is know what simple is.

Pyscho will do for this term. Keep in mind that this concept should have input from the players exploiting it. There understanding would allow for a better name. Paradox simple drifter would be cooler if it was called pyscho drifter. That would eliminte the need to differentiate between the two concepts. This would allow players to explore this if the name was a bit more up to date and serious. Don't we have plenty of crappy trick names already.Hope this helps,Richie

Since it only takes about 3 minutes to learn the distinction between symple and symposium, why not just make the unaware learn their frikkin sport? Lets not change the way we talk about our sport just because some are of inadequate knowledge.

I like ps for pdx symposium
and I like ps for paradox symple.

I can say ps drifter and someone who knows a basic concept about freestyle footbag will say, "oh, nice! he hit a pdx symple drifter."

Lets not kid ourselves, its not like this is a hard concept to master . . .its not brain surgery.

PS=PS=PS

Agreed. Why can't concepts stay concepts. It makes it easier to teach tricks and variations of that trick. I still think pyshco is a cool name for a concept. I understand when there are twenty tricks within a given concept the confusion rises and need to be clarified, but when there are only a couple of tricks being hit, the name should wait a while until the right name is given.
