footbag grading idea
footbag grading idea
in piano and music and also some other stuff like juggling
they have systems that say you have acheived a certain level in what ever it is
in music they have 8 grades and you have to be able to do scales and songs of a specified difficulty
in footbag we could give people a feeling of improving by writting something that says you are year 1 footbagger
to be year 1 you need to be able to go 10 tiltless, kick 250
hit 5 consecutive clippers on each side
it doesn;t even matter that much what they have to do but it would be good for begginners
if the ifpa did it officially
and these people could be tested by an ifpa sacncioned tester or post videos then that would be wicked
and also lets trip out and make it so that once you get to 10 then you become super sayan or whateva they call that dragon ball z bs
lol
anyway
the ifpa can email these ppl the certificate and all that kind of stuff
and this 10yr old kid can go
'look dad, i am grade 1 footbag'
and he will be like
'yeh cool, yeh lets go play some footbag in the back yard it will be good for familyness'
i was talking crap with that dbalz stuff
but the rest is serious

Once the student gets the basic grade 1... let's call this sparks. Then the student can move onto brownies (titless), where they can get badges for different components. Instead of sewing and swimming though... more like spinning, symposium, sets, ducking, and dexterities. After the students gets a certain number of these they can move onto... guides (guiltless).

You should email Yacine < yax at footbag.org > He already did this when he started Shred Zone. In his system, there are standardized levels and criteria to meet each level. It's very well done.

i guess ill be the first to say that i dont like the idea of ranking footbag players. i guess it would encourage people to try harder and learn more tricks, so that they can lvl up. but i would rather see people trying for themselves and not a rank.
Every man has their technique, and they are all different......when you know mine.....youll be dead.

I think its a good idea. I think i'd be in the middle of brownies and kicker. However, i think that the scale has to be modified slightly in certain areas. When i get back home (away from school and i have more time), i will try and make up my own scale as well.
Not saying you scale is bad...
Just that i think if we do do something like this (we as in all of us) it would be better to have a couple different opinions and suggestions.

OMIGOD...I didn't just read this <rubbing eyes>...yes, yes I did. I think ednie put as much thought into this system as Scott Davidson has put into his freestyle judging system. LOL anyway, I'm not knocking the idea, I just think it's funny to see how obsessed some of you are.
That's crazy that you can pretty much get to the highest level on your list without doing anything ending on a toe. ?? I think your levels should be balanced out with tricks starting/ending on toes and on clippers. Also, some of it may be redundant...I mean, if you can go 20+ tiltless, most likely your string had 5 guiltless (okay, maybe not unique). I think you should have to kick 1000 kicks just to get into the first level. if you can kick 50-100, then 1000 is no big deal. I can kick several thousand without even trying that hard. all I'm saying is that the grade level requirements could use some tweaking. oh yeah, 5 unique guiltless before 20 infinities? the 20 infinities would naturally come first...they are easier than 5 unique guiltless. you see what I mean?... nevermind, just ignore me...I'm over-analyzing. the idea is good...it encourages kids to practice the game in a way that builds a solid foundation.

Ednie,
The grading system in music is more to grade the difficulty of the piece, not the skill of the player. I've never taken a test to become a 'Level 4 Flutist'.
It would make more sense if you grade the difficulty of the runs/drills (runs=pieces), and then just tell others what level of runs you can bust.
Oh wait, we already have that. Titless, then Guiltless, then Tripless, then....

Yeah, after doing some thinking, tiltless, guiltless, tripless says it all...its accurate enough.
I don't think so...i can't do 20 infinities and i can do 5 unique guiltless easier.oh yeah, 5 unique guiltless before 20 infinities? the 20 infinities would naturally come first...they are easier than 5 unique guiltless. you see what I mean?...

Ditto on that, 5 unique guiltless is so easy for me compared to 20 infinities.Shredster wrote:I don't think so...i can't do 20 infinities and i can do 5 unique guiltless easier.
It's a novel idea, and some people might like having set out goals for them. Personally I'd rather shape my game the way I want to shape it. Obviously the process is going to have bias towards a certain style. For instance think where Chris Pinkus would be on the list, I think he's one of the sickest shredders out there (warp anyone?) but he probably wouldn't be on a high level because of toe dominance.

wow, that surprises me. What are your 5 unique guiltless?
guessing: butterfly -> pdx mirage -> butterfly -> pdx mirage -> whirl.
go pound out 20 butterflies right now! Its a great way to improve your game. try to end every session with 20 guiltless (start with butterflies and then as you get better...start throwing in more uniques). The group I kick with always ends a long session with everyone going for 20+ guiltless. Do tiltless if your not at that level yet. you'll find that the level of difficulty of your overall game increases by practicing endurance more than the other way around. for me anyway.
