Who out there does footbag demos?
I try to as much as I can, and often get asked "what's your biggest trick"
I tend to try something that looks impressive that I think I'll hit, rather than actually doing my biggest tricks (for example today I hit mobius and your mom as my "biggest tricks" - not that they arn't big - just something like nuke symp dlo would be bigger).
Do other people do that? Is it better to land something than to attempt something bigger (but probably drop it?)
Doing Demos
I think it is always best to do your biggest trick thats the most probable to land. Trying to hit something and dropping immediately makes the audience lose interest (from experience). I say go for "easy" big tricks.

I've done dozens of demos over time.
Honestly the best advice I can give is this:
- have the demo be limited in time (no more than 2 minutes if alone, or 5 mins for 2, or maybe even up to 10 mins for 3 players).
- prepare something
If the 2 or 3 of you are prepared, know your music, know when to pass the bag, do a themed demo (i.e. starting with kick passes > throwing in a log-over > simple dexes delays > easy flowy shred > some team freestyle > more strings > a couple of big tricks > hand catch), have your stuff prepared.
The crowd pleasers are the usuals: sole delay, datw, 2 ball juggling, not dropping, ducks/dives, not dropping, big symposium moves (whirl, barfly, illusion), and most importantly of all NOT DROPPING.

I've done alot demos in Finland. I've noticed that just easy looking two adders doesn't get so much excitement. I think it's good that the bag drops time to time. Also, I like to yell what I do in a trick. For example, I start saying, I will now hit my biggest trick. Then I will do atw and say, that's one dex. datw, maybe I'll say "well, how many dexes is that people?" great way to get audience to attend the show. Well then you show 'em barfly, that's two dexes from my other clipper. Then you can say "How many of you think I can do it with only one leg?" and then you can hit superfly. You can keep on doing this untill you hit torch rack if you can. To me this is good, because my superfly is quite clean and it looks good and I can hit it usually. Just do what you are best in. Highlight the unique skills you have. Footbag looks boring when all people are shredding and doing the same tricks over and over again. How cool is the 32th ripwalk in the show? You want to make them to remember that oh, that was the guy who spinned alot, and that was the guy who jump alot, that was the guy who used his head etc. You want to make 'em guess "I guess that guy will try some huge flying trick next" etc. Keep 'em active.
I don't know, just do what you like and enjoy yourself. Like don't yell at people and select some heavy metall music if you are performing in home for the aged. If you are at the hiphop event, take rap music and just interact with the audience alot. If you're entertaining 12 year old girls, just take britney spears if you feel like it :) The main thing is, people can't tell the difference between many of the tricks, but they will notice wether you are smiling or not, wether you are enjoying playing or not. The drops aren't so bad, they know that you're a human already. Sometimes it even makes the show look harder, like "even those guys drop sometimes, it must be hard". I don't know, just be yourself and shred, remember to smile - all planning and extra performance is a plus, but if you don't have fun, planning etc will be completely in vain.
yeah and you don't have to hit superfly to perform in an event, just have fun. The reason we are doing demos is to get more players, not to show how cool I am. The reason people want to try footbag after performance is that they will look us and see that wow, those guys are having fun. We don't want to get 'em jealous, we don't want to get them depressed by showing how good we are and that we never drop. We want to show 'em that footbag is the funniest and coolest thing in the world - and you can learn it too!
In general, always play in public places, always go and perform if you have a chance, money isn't important, the more we got shows, the more people will have knowledge of the sport. Personally there's nothing I enjoy more than performing in a big event :)
my post short:
- smile
- alot high fives
- alot big tricks, remember to jump for joy when you hit something, even if it's just a spinning jester.
- interact with audience (it depends on audience how should you interact)
- be positive, always positive. Don't look like you're dying when bag drops. Just smile, shrug the sadness off and pass the bag.
- smile more
- remember to do the flyers
- smile even more
- when your cheeks start to hurt, remember to still smile.
- don't be a fake, smile because you really love it.
bah I always write too much, don't take me so seriously.
