i disagree with this idea,
coz some people who just started kicking have to do 50 consec kicks and then most 2 add moves etc just to get to level 1 or wotever u call it. And this can take ages and ages, and then they get frustrated and then quit the sport. I think the best way to kick is to play it this way, u can go into any direction u want and play how u want without doing tests or shit like that. Its a lot easier for u advanced players to go with this idea but think of the beginners and stuff.
footbag grading idea
yeh of course,
theres steps in nearly every kind of sport, eg. playing for rep teams, state teams and national. And theres other steps like taekwando, karate.
And there's even steps for footbag right now (well i think theyre my steps for becoming better), which is becoming tiltless, tripless, guiltless and fearless etc. Isn't this already enough?
Having this new idea for freestyle makes it a bit strict, and being strict isnt always fun. I think footbag is perfect just the way it is now.
And also having this ranking system will start to get people to be more competitive, and being competitive isnt always good. Just look at soccer for example, most teams want to finish number 1 in order to do this they need to watch out for their competitors and fight for their place. And fighting for a place can cause conflict which is the last thing that footbag wants.

you make a good point. i kind of agree with you...I think freestyle is already technical enough that it's a headache to think of creating something like "grades" or "steps" Although, it's nice that it gives you goals to work towards...I know unicycle has levels to climb by completing certain skills test (mounts, dismounts, one-foot & two-foot pedaling, idling, etc). I don't think that is too competitive, though I have no idea. people use it to help them learn and become better at uni. I think freestyle is what it is FREEstyle...explore the game your own way. you've got your mind in the right place...except, i would try guiltless before tripless
