DivX Converter? (no video)

Post by Muffinman »

Sorry for another no video topic, but I'm searching for freeware to convert video files to divx and I can't really find anything that will work. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Tell me if I'm wrong and I've missed something, but doesn't this only convert to MPEG?

What kind of video files are you trying to convert? Basically, if you have all the necessary codecs, you can open your video files in VirtualDub ( http://www.virtualdub.org) and re-encode them to DivX. Also, remember to compress audio, because divx compresses only video.

However, if your video files are Windows media (.wmv ) or Quicktime (.mov), then you need a spesific program to convert them. Unfortunately, I can't remember any right now, but go to Google and search something like "wmv to avi converter" and you should find some. Most of them are not freeware, but can be used for like 30 days, so you have plenty of time convert your old videos.

Oh, and if the converter want's to encode the files to DV-avi (like raw material taken from camera), you should download Panasonic DV-codec, it's free and one of the few DV-codecs that VirtualDub understants, http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Pan ... _Codec.htm. DV-avis are also editable in Premiere or whatever you're using, so you can re-encode them with it if you want to.
