Quitting Footbag
Who here has ever quit or thought of quitting footbag? What brought on those thoughts, and what made you start again? Was it worth quitting for whatever time that you quit for whatever reason you had for quitting? I could really use some help and would love to hear some of your stories.

I wouldn't call it quitting, but for a whole year I stopped playing because there was no one to play with at university and I couldn't will myself to keep up with shredding by myself at the same time as I was trying to fit into a new place.
In retrospect, I regret it, as the lost time was nothing but damaging to my game, and if I had been playing that entire year even a couple times a week I would be multiple times better than I am now. So no, it wasn't worth it quitting.
What made me start again was meeting Sergey at university.
The love for footbag never went away, it just buried itself for a year.

Um... I quit for 9 months due to injury, and didn't check the forums because it would depress me. Then I quit again, and am still in "quitting" mode because of all my stress lately, but I might play next week. I don't think I've ever considered quitting for a final time though. Not seriously anyways. I just have to take my breaks.

hehe i think about quiting like, every couple of solo sessions, but i dont think its serious. its just in my fits of frustration over stepping sets or butterflies, that i think, 'WTF do i bother? is it really worth it? this is never gonna get better!' But then i just chill a bit and practice something new or something i know i can do, and i get thru to the next day.
i dont think i seriously consider it tho... but it can be the most frustrating sport sometimes

I think about quting everytime when the pain in my injuried ankle is bigger. Everytime when i feel pain in my knees. Everytime when i feel pain in my hips. Everytime when i shred solo for 2-3-4 hours. But I'll not quite because I love the sport of footbag.

I'm tired of getting injured. I love the sport, but if I get another injury, then that's it for me.
I can't take the mind-fuck of wanting to play, but being unable. In 6 months, I've had to deal with 4 different injuries (Knee, Ankle, Knee again, Tendon on back of knee), and it's just getting too much sometimes.

i quit for 7 or 8 months because i started to get bored. i was playing every night and it didnt seem like i was progressing. but now that i look back i totally was. i was getting close to stepping sets, which i am nowhere near getting now. i started up again a couple weeks ago because there was this picnic at school and all there is to do is shred. i only have one other person to play with, but this guy e-mailed my friend and said he wanted to shred somtime. we might meet up with him tomorro.

Yeah i'm in a similar scenario. I loved my abshire and my sandman and I've lost both of them. I can't get new ones for a while cos my parents said that those two had to do me for a while. So I've just kind of lost that passion for footbag that I had

I was into computer gaming and I was struggling to keep going on training sessions. One day this really sucky practice happened and I thought computer gaming was just so much rewarding that I'll keep a pause. It was like a month and I was back playing bag. You just need something to do with your body or you'll feel like a loser if you just sit home.
I've quit several times for different reasons.
1) Jealous non-footbagging (ex-)boyfriend
2) Severe shin splints/stress fractures in my shins
3) Burn-out and making time for other passions
4) Hip joint injury
Just coming out of #4 now...longest breaks were #1 and #2...each was over a year in duration. That's a looooooong break. Anyway, I call them breaks, not "quitting." If I ever quit, I think I'll call it "retired" not "quit"...because if I ever stop playing it will be because my body just can't take it anymore and not because I don't love it and yearn to play more.
Funny, I'm remembering now back when I was in college and told my mom about this thing, footbag, that I was obsessed with. I remember she said something about it being a phase or a passing thing and I had to break it down to her...a heart-to-heart if you will...that this thing, footbag was no passing phase. I told her I would be playing for the rest of my life until I'm to old and even then I'll still be kickin' it in a circle with just some mellow kicks. It's 12 years later now and I've quit jobs to play, relocated to play, honeymooned to play,...I think she understands now.
sorry for the tangent.
