I finally found a cabin to rent in the San Gabriel mountains outside of Los Angeles, still close enough to get to school but far enough away from the metropolis infection. No more smog and foul water for me! Its at about 6400 feet - over a vertical mile up from the LA basin. Fireplace heated, spring-fed water...rustic living indeed.

Its about 20-25 minutes, depending on which way you're going- up or down.
Its only ~8 miles outside of the city, it just takes a while to get there because there are a lot of switchbacks. My commute to school now is ~15 minutes, so its not much more driving and the trip is a beautiful drive through the Angeles National Forest.
