IQ

Post by Guest »

Hey. I hope there isn't another thread on this, but anyway.

Just for kicks I did that Tickle IQ Test. I got a 127. Is that good? Have you guys had your IQ's tested? Any better tests to do?

The average person should score 100 in those tests, but I bet they get a lot more, because they want people to feel good about getting a genius IQ score and then pass it around as a result. If you scored a 90 you wouldn't be telling your mates about it, and the site wouldn't be getting any hits.

IQ is too often seen as a universal test for human intelligence though, when you could be a total moron at things they they're not testing you on. Added to this, most IQ tests seem to have quite a bit of cultural bias, so I don't rate them much higher than crosswords or a tv quiz.

An IQ of 160 or higher is genius and an IQ of 60 or lower is retardation.

Mine is 135 not based on that Tickle one or wutever.

Highest IQ last time i heard was a woman that had a wopping 212

I just answered each of those questions as badly as the choices allowed. My IQ is 77. I challenge you to do worse.

PS. I may have gotten ONE right. I flat out guessed at the anagram one. I hate anagrams. So it might be possible to beat me.

I've seen some modern IQ tests that claimed to be culture-unbiased. No writing/words/number in them.

The IQ scoring system as it was devised makes it so that the average person will score exactly 100, with 50% of the tested population scoring over 100 and 50% scoring under 100. The results pan out in a bell shaped curve around the 100 mark. Anyway all this to say that if in 500 years time everyone is vastly more intelligent than today's population, the average on an IQ test shall still remain EXACTLY 100.

Yeah, I think the test is not quite accurate. I mean, I don't really equate knowing the fact that a grape is not a fruit of the rose family with intelligence.

Duh, obviously the grape is in family Vitaceae not Rosaceae. It doesn't even have an inferior ovary!

I don't know how credible it is in regards to aleviating the problems of race and social standing, but the MENSA IQ test is generally considered one of the most credible tests available.

How can I take the MENSA IQ Test? Is it over the internet?

I'm pretty sure you have to order it or you can buy it in almost any bookstore.

I'm in. i had to pay some money (about 50USD) to pass the tests. They take about 3 or 4 hours to pass. Most of the people there are a bit weird but very nice nonetheless. Give it a go. It's a community, a bit like footbag is, but without the physical part.

oh,and no, I couldn't pass it over the internet. I had to go to an exam-passing facilty (or whatever the appropriate term is in English) to sit through the exam. They take this stuff pretty seriously.
