New Set Challenge

Post by Splint »

I'm pretty sure this is a new set and it's something I was going to work on for worlds, but injury has kept me from it so I'm posting it to ya'll.

Here's the jobs...I don't know how the > vs. >> works so remember it's all uptime since it's a set.

clip > same out > op back to front...

Essentially it's a Nuclear Swirling set. I don't know if it's been hit yet, but I've tried it a few times and it seems totally possible.

So who's gonna hit it  ?

just to clarify that, far butterfly ain't an infintity, there have been several topics discussing that issue.

that set really sounds possible but hard to get clean, I'd like to see a video of it done clean... (plz take one when you're healed !)

dunno if it was hit, but I could imagine ales and/or yves hit it

An op side butterfly is an infinity (set from clipper though)

Clip > op out > op clip is a butterfly
Clip > same out > op clip is infinity
Toe > op out > op clip is NOT an infinity

I was trying a butterfly swirling set from toe. It seems very possible, but the bag hits the bottom of my swirling foot...So i think infinity swirling is quite possible
just to clarify that, far butterfly ain't an infintity, there have been several topics discussing that issue.
Why can't it be? Several people call in an infinity.

EDIT: Max, after rereading the previous posts and stuff, i realized you knew what you thought was an infinity. I still like the term infinity for "far butterfly"

Can't we just call it all Butterfly? Why is there so much varying terminology for the same concept? That's just ridiculous.
In My Humble Opineeon.

Hmm

Personally, i don't really care what is a butterfly or infinity, i just call an op butterfly from clipper (far butterfly) an infinity

Ok, we're off topic...lets just talk about the set now.

Oh for cryin' out loud.... Why is it that this is still SO CONFUSING.

An infinity was originally intended to mean 2 back to back clipper set op butterflies.
Somewhere along the way it got all garbled, as things in this sport usually do, and infinity (among the younger players) has come to mean 1 clip op butterfly (which is technically wrong, but every time someone tries to argue the point they are over-run by immaturity, stubborness and a lack of respect and care for what the orginators of moves actually intended).

SO, if someone asks me if the set I am referring to is an infinity swirling set, then for the sake of not having to go through "the infinity discussion" all over again I am going to say YES.

now we can get back to the topic :x (this smiley always looks like it's pooping)

Sheesh... people should quit whining about all this infinity crap... we all know what someone is talking about when they say infinity. There has been way too much discussion over this silly topic :x

Awesome set idea though... I would love to give it a try soon! You would have to really get that swirling leg high in the air to get it to work. How close did you come?

Once out of about 20 tries I cleared and cleaned the set without any ability to play anything out of it.

By the way I deleted your props to Damon's avatar. You can PM that to him if you like.

FlexThis wrote:About that set. Couldn't you have at least hit a toe stall out of it? I'd give you props for that. That's an awesome set BTW. Must have been high in the air right?
Well in my head I was trying to hit Nuclear Swirling Butterfly and I was lucky enough to hit the set. It actually would have been easier to bail to an osis than to have toe stalled out of it.

BUT, this isn't about me. This is about someone more healthy and qualified nailing this friggin' thing and thanking me for giving them the idea :D .

Which is a pdx Legbeater swirl, or a far tapping SS Butterfly Swirl, both are triple dexes. Did you intend to hit a triple dex?
Dude, the swirl is in the middle of this trick, not the end. Look at the names you gave, you are making this more confusing than it is.

It is not that different of a set. From phasing (fairy swirling), it is not too much of a leap to go to atomic swirling; although, it is probably a little more awkward since the swirling foot is the same as the setting foot. From there, is almost natural to move the set from toe to clipper (like atomic to nuclear).

The situation with nuclear and paradox seems to have pretty much always been a mess. I'd point you to a thread started by, IIRC, Andrew Grant. For example, do you think paradox tapping drifter a.k.a. "far tapping" drifter should be a 4 or 5 add trick?
