"switchside" moves and side difficulties

Post by comastalker »

1st problem :

well, don't really know where to start....
uhmm... well let's start off with my switchside problem...

I want you to define my flipside !
After a half year of shredding I still don't know which side it is
(I thought this problem will be self-solving while progressing, but
since now it didn't)
It's not that I'm somehow bothsided, I see it as of being "switchsided".
Just some move-side-relationships (strongsides listed):

toe stall : none
clipper stall : left foot
osis : left foot
far osis : right foot
butterfly : (dex) right side
whirl : (dex) right side
blender : (dex) right side
pdx whirl : (dex) left side
stepping set : (dex) left side
pixie set : right side
atomic set : (dex) right side

well, looking at most of my moves, I prefer
setting from left toe or left leg clipper and
dex with the right foot.
I prefer doing end stalls with my left leg (in general).
Osis (and familiar moves) somehow distort the rules
(not to forget stepping !)
So, what is my strongside ? the side I prefer dexing with ?
I use both sides equally but by doing diferrent moves/concepts.
It would be great if you explain the big foot theory !

2nd problem :

I found out, that both my toe sets really differ in motion !
This causes quite sick problems :
when doing my left toe delay, I catch the bag normally/balanced,
but when lifting the foot again I tend to have my knee pointing a bit
outwards (with both sides I'm not able to set it having my knee directly above the foot, because I can't see the bag and often hit it with the knee).
In fact this causes, that I'm better doing out-to-in dexes with my left foot and to set op in-to-out dexes. When setting with my right toe, I tend to push my knee inwards and setting a bit to the side of my body, which leads to better in-to-out dexes but makes my flipside atomic impossible !
I photgraphed both set-ending-positions to make that clear
(remember these are the last moments before the bag leaves my foot;
plz don't critizise I don't lean over enough, I was leaning against a chair
so I don't blur the image too much (with very small success ;))):

(left foot toe stall)

(right foot toe stall)

It also really makes me unable to hit toe - ss dexes (like datw, my personal nightmare). Can you please EXACTLY observe you toe stalls
and tell me the way you do it and what you propose me to do now ?
I've hit my first 5-times-differing-osis string and my first 4 blenders today and like every day I see I ain't able to pixie off of my toe box or simply do DATWs or Paradons !

Are you doing Fairy sets with right foot and Pixie sets with left foot?

I tend to start learning sets with my right foot (the one I prefer to dex with), so, because I'm unable to do any kind of fairies with my right foot (or it's just too discouraging to do so), I'm not able to do fairies at all. I think I won't begin to learn it in near future, since there are still infinities and far osii on my to-skool-list (followed by flip whirl, pdx/symp whirl and blenders)

but, if I'd be able to do them, then with my left leg

captain obvious here... you do your toe stalls differently on each side, which fundamentally changes how moves from toe are going to be from one side to the other.... aaaaand, I'm just now realizing you already know this.

make your sides do things the same. fix those toe stalls. If you play one side totally different from the other, your brain is going to have a hell of a time.

skool your basics and concentrate on doing them the same from one side the other. Make sure to get the stall on the inside if your knee on your right foot, not the outside, and vice versa with the left leg, so they both have equal muscle memory.

Do legovers ending on your right leg, and pickups ending on your left leg. that will teach you to catch the bag in the way I described, so you can do it either on the inside of your knee or the outside of your knee with both sides, not one way one side, and the other way the other side. and in the future, just keep side consistency in mind. good luck, rich.

From your descriptions it sounds as if you are strong sided, or sideways. I am bigfoot myself.
I think i was bigfoot (i'm a bit less now), but i honestly think being sideways is better.

Okay, so this you already know. You favor your left foot. You are able to hit out to in dexes better with the left foot and in to out with the right. Your left leg is more suited for Fairy Sets while your right is more suited for Pixie Sets. Left Clipper set Blizzards ought to be a breeze. Your Atomic Set, while an out to in with your right leg, is probably more comfortable because you set better with your left toe and your right leg is naturally tilted toward the bag.

Here's what you may or may not have realized. You are Right Eye dominant. This means that your right eye focus' harder on the bag. Your left foot dellays the bag toward the inside of your legs naturally so that your right eye can see it better and the same goes for why your right leg is angled in the same direction.

As for which is your flipside.... that is really determined on a trick by trick basis. For instance my strong Blurry Whirl starts from Left Clipper because my Step set is better on that side, however my strong Paradox Whirl starts from right clipper.

Any of this help?

never thought about eye dominance, but that really makes sense, maybe I should by the way train my eye-balance a bit...
any tips about books or other sources dealing with this effect ?

i've got absolutely the same problem as Richard. I play about 6 months and i'm a toe player. it is easier to hit smog for me, than a simple toe dlo from the right foot. I can't pixie from the left toe, but i'm able to hit fairy; i'm also can't fairy from the right toe - my right foot has got used to do only pixie moves.

I dont use datw's in my combos, but I feel that I can do only in-to-out from right, and out-to-in from left foot.

http://www.footbag.org/worlds2004/image ... mb_800.jpg this desktop will teach you how to make toe stalls. You make it to close to your body. Make it like Vasek on this desktop.

Yeah bidrityfoot... Hehe... not that link.. thanks.

Comstalker - I think yes... You make youre toe stals to close to your body, almost under you. And this is the reason why you don't see it when you set it in front of knee. And you should lean over bag.

My littlebrother has a bit of a same kind of problem with toe stalls:
His first trick was pendulum. He likes that trick very much. But now when he does a toe stall he does it like a pendulum without releasing the bag from toe. It`s like a swing. It`s hard to explain. Too bad I don`t have a videocamera..

Anyone else having the same problem?

I knew someone having exactly that problem; suddenly disappeared with atomics and/or pixies, he'll have to relearn them, tell him
