Windows media player, just downloaded the version 10. Windows plays almost everything (other than like .mov which is quicktime, or other real one player movie files) What kind of computer do you have? I haven't heard of a computer that Windows Media Player won't work.

Usually I use Windows Media Player 9, or RealOnePlayer. But when I'm on Linux I use MPlayer, which comes highly recommended. Infact, I should probably switch to that for Windows as well.

I'm running Mac OS X and I'm using QuickTime (with DivX), MPlayer (good! not very compatible with Windows Media for some reason, weird), and Windows Media 9.

Zoomplayer.

If your player doesn't show some of the .avis, it might be because you don't have the right codecs installed. You might need to install those video codecs before some of the videos will work in any player. All the players will use the same codecs that you install. Hope this helps!

Primarily I use Windows Media Classic (It's in the format of the old Windows Media Player, but I don't think it's by the same people (or something?) -- it reads more formats and doesn't require constant updates.) <--Best of all, I think, it doesn't have that stupid menu bar that takes a few seconds to disappear if you even bump the mouse in fullscreen....

Then I also use VLC Player for some videos that won't play properly on Windows Media Classic. I also use some MPEG4 player to view MP4 files.

I second Zoom Player. It's free, it's sdmall (700kb), it's highly
configurable, it has slowmo (which sadly doesn't work with wmv's and some .avi's), and a fram-per-frame option that you can put on your
mousewheel - neat! And no spyware or anything. Best there is.
