Monday July 19

Had a good 3 hour session.

Hit a lot of general shred - the highlight of which was probably:

pdx drifter>pdx whirl>pdx dlo>phoenix>ps whirl midstring - It's the first time I can remember trying to hit pixie ducking out of a dlo, although it's hard to believe I haven't done it before.

Also drilled blenders. Found that if aimed to dex it at the bottom of my calf it was easier. Inspired by Ashley - tried to hit foot processor a couple of times. Couldn't decide which side was strongest but didn't hit it on either.

Also tried to hit dominatrix>dominatrix and came so f*ing close. If my weak sailing was as strong as my strong sailing I'd hit it in 5 attempts. At one stage I got both sets out 3 times in a row - footed one.

I also tried to hit: uptime smudge>up/down time smudge>downtime smudge - but downtime smudges (not symposium) are way too hard. I did manage to kick the bag about 20 metres on my last attempt (and gave up)

I do think I need to warm up a little more next time. I had not much control of my legs to begin with - I think the first thing I did was drop 5 or 6 butterflies in a row :x

anyway a constructive session.

Definitly guilty of blog neglection...
The truth is I haven't been kicking much due to weather and feeling crap. Perhaps the anti depressants I take are making me feel a little strange and effecting my performance. Not sure if I remembered to take them today ot not (I think I forgot :? )

Anyway I did a short demo for a local primary school today. It was lots of fun and they really loved it. They applauded all the way through the demo - including when I landed a forehead stall (first attempt :D ) - I can't do them on my weak side though  (think about that one...)

anyway I had heaps of fun and might go back and do a workshop or something. Tomorrow they have a school cross country and everybody in the school who participates will recieve a free footbag!!!! - best prize I can think of!

Today I also recieved an abshire footbag in the mail from Monsterhack. This was pretty cool because I personally didn't order it and no idea it was coming. I presume it's a birthday (my birthday is in two days) but I have no idea who it's from. My brother is coming home today also - which is cool (although he's coming home a little early because his housemates younger brother has just died  )

My Aunt is also coming over for a few days soon and is hopefully bringing a video camera which means you can expect to see some up to date footage of me very soon!

yeah it's sweet. I'll try to get some pics up soon but my Mum's digital camera has flat batteries and I'm too lazy to recharge them so I have to wait until she wants to use the camera again... :D

It's yellow and blue - regular (not a mini). It feels very good. I had a little kick with it and found it very useable even while brand new!! :D I find it a big light - I like heavier bags. Now that I have a regular and a mini, I think I prefer the mini's. I've also paid some close attention to the stitching and think I can understand how it's done now (to push the panels forward - hope that makes sense!)

I found out today that my Aunt isn't bringing her camera - apparantly she forgot all about it... :x

Anyway tomorrow I have another demo - for a local high school - 5 min demo for the assembly (about 600 people) and then a bit of a workshop for a circus class or something... I'm not sure what the full details are but I'm getting paid $75 and it might be a weekly thing (the workshops with the circus class)!! That would be the most fucking sweet thing to happen ever!!!

I'll keep you posted!

argh. Just discovered that Brad hasn't got it right when he tried to give mods powers in this section...

Anyway I just wanted to add that I've printed out Chris Holden's drill list and want to work my way through all them - I've hit many before but I'll start at the start anyway! (so expect me to list them as I hit them again :D )

Also I'm printing out a number of sheets of paper which say on them:

www.footbag.org www.flipsider.com
www.ausfootbag.org www.acefootbags.com
www.modified.ca
owheelj at ausfootbag dot org - Jeremy O'Wheel

which I will cut out and give to interested kids at the demo tomorrow! - Those being the four most important footbag websites I could think of - plus my sponsors! and my email address!

Today's demo was awesome!

I played infront of the school (600 people) which was really fun. I dropped it alot but played well and they were impressed. I went for about 4 minutes to Breath by Prodigy. They liked the song too!

Then I did a workshop with their circus class - that was heaps of fun - there were about 60 people and I got a chance to give them all a little face to face help. Some kids were pretty good - landing atw, alternating toe stalls, flying clippers and some other stuff. It was heaps of fun and I hope some of them will keep playing.

I hit a couple of nice runs for them, including torch r rack first attempt when someone asked what my hardest trick was (I don't think it's my hardest trick but I tried something different that was hard every time someone asked me that question).

Anyway it was a great time and I'm going back in a few weeks to help judge a school competition or something!

Thanks Ian.

Had a short kick this afternoon too - just working on the list of drills. These are the ones I hit (all were fairly easy)

butterfly>pdx mirage rep
magellan>pixie legover rep
smear>pixie ss mirage rep
drifter>whirl rep
diving clip>ducking clip rep
atomsmasher>tap rep
pdx mirage>toe whirl rep
pdx illusion>bttfly rep
pdx illusion>toe whirl rep
ducking clip>spinning clip rep
merkon>bttfly rep.

I only kicked for about 20 minutes and then it got too dark.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to put in a big session and get all the first page done. I'm a little worried about the drills involving eggbeaters since my weak eggbeater is pretty weak (I may have only hit it once - but that's mainly through lack of attempts)

Friday July 28

Had a good kick!

First drilled double dexes - double over down, parradon, barrage, double pickup, barfly, double atw, double switch, down double down, blurriest and blurrier. I had my aunt watching and she thought they were mostly clean. Could do them all both sides.

Then drilled drifters, pdx drifter, smoke, vortex - all getting better.

Then drilled torque, and pdx torque. Have improved a lot.

Then whirls which were good

Blenders - still need lots of work

Hit 39 consecutive smears - 4 off the world record.

Then worked on swirls a bit and hit reverse swirling osis - twirl - for the first time :D

I haven't hit it weak side yet, but got closeish.

Finished off drilling symp whirls - hopefully to hit furious sets soon

hmm. more blog neglection from me. I'm not really that happy with my game at the moment - I've become incredibly unfit and inconsistant. It's nice that I'm hitting some big moves, but I've always believed that I'm capable of hitting pretty much every move out there, it's just a matter of putting in the time. I'd much prefer to be able to hit any hard moves but be able to consistantly hit all my moves all the time.

Anyway as of tomorrow I'm going to make every effort to change that. I think it's about time I started setting and working on some long term goals and stopped wasting time checking this forum every half hour and really pushed my game to see how far I can make it.

So I'm not going to try to cut right down on my computer time (don't worry, I'll still post) and I'm going to really work hard. I'm going to work out some trainging tough daily training schedules and really push hard. Here is my schedule for tomorrow.

Morning jog - about 30 minutes (6 km approx)
break (breakfast, shower etc)
Warm up with:
consecutive kicks
Basic stalls
Basic one dex tricks

Morning session - Moves starting on toes:
downtime moves - toe drifter, dlo, eggbeater, whirl etc.
Sets - pixie, fairy, atomic, quantum, sailing, frantic etc.

Break (lunch)

Afternoon session - moves starting on clippers:
downtimes - drifter, whirl, dlo etc.
sets - stepping, spinning, ducking, spinning ducking, nuke, shooting etc.

Finish off with some combonations of moves starting on clippers and on toes and some basic runs.

Mainly the point of this is to a) work on my fitness and b) find out what needs the most work and where I need to do that work - So I'll be trying to cover pretty much everything to some degree and keeping some notes, which I guess I'll post in my blog if I have time. The day after tomorrow will see a much more focused session I think.

well people have been complaining that I don't post what I hit anymore so I thought I'd give a bit of an update!

The last few days I've been playing with a guy named Alex who is still learning - but getting really good - lots better than when I last kicked with him!!

I've been having lots of fun playing - do lots of cool stuff, and just trying fum moves.

I can't really remember all the hightlights - stuff like phoenix bsos, my barrages are getting much more solid, as are my swirls. I actually hit the odd weak reverse swirl!

Today I did a demo for my old highschool grade 7 assembly and then some more demos for some kids. While warming up I hit symple reverse swirl for the first time a few times and also hit a nice janiwalker. I can get the set out like 70-80% or the time, but need to work on my timing to get consistant at janiwalkers etc. I've been getting closish to the next step but have some work to go.

I'm still at my highschool on one of the computers in the teachers computer lab (my mum is a teacher at the school) and a girl has just come in complaining that the beanie she is wearing is itchy and making her uncomfortable but she can't take it off because her hair is psycho. 8O

I did my demo in front of the grade 7s and it went well - I didn't talk, just played for about 4 minutes to Zion by Fluke - I started well and did the fisrt 2 minutes with only one drop but got tired towards the end and ended up dropping it about 5 or 6 times. It was fun anyway and they enjoyed it.

Then I did a couple of demos for some of the grade 7 classes - they asked lots of questions and I did some cool stuff. In particular I hit a sick 3 off the top of my head in 3 attempts - sumo>phoenix>ps whirl - pretty easy but I was glad I could do it - it's a while since I've tried to hit fearless combos so that was cool!

I'm now going to spend the rest of the day making use of the high speed internet to download lots of cds worth of music as well as some software!!

Hope you enjoyed reading this, feel free to commment.

Long time between posts.

Here is my report from day one of the Brisbane City Shred tournament.

The day started when I woke up at 7am and got packed to leave at 10. I was ready to go by 8:30 and should have stayed in bed for longer!

We then drove 1:30 hours to the airport. At the airport a woman waiting to get on the plane made a joke about having a bomb - despite all the warnings saying that they would take all jokes seriously. I was tempted to report it until I realised that I would have to wait about 5 hours while they checked the plane for bombs and decided to stay silent. Luckily our plane failed to blow up in the air. The next 5 hours were pretty univentful and I slept most of the time.

I arrived in Brisbane at about 6:00 and met up with Garth, Ian and Scott. We got some food but I wasn't feeling that great so just had a juice. Then we met up with Dan, Jesse and Rory and had a late night kick.

That went really well - I was playing well and hitting a lot of stuff that I've been working on. Pdx tapping drifter, haze and tapping dlo mistring, shooting torque midstring, fusion midstring. I was pretty tired so I did spend a lot of time fucking around trying stupid moves like guantlet. I actually got close to blurriest swirl - completed all the dexes but couldn't get my foot under it - which was cool although I think it will be sometime before I actually hit it since I've hit swirl twice on that side and no other swirling moves.

Perhaps the highlight of the night for me was saying to Dan "I'm getting pretty tired now, I don't think I'll hit any more big moves tonight" and then busting a long string with Your Mom midstring. It wasn't on tape but the last few moves of the run were.

Dan was playing really well - his game has improved heaps since I last kicked with him. I still think he goes way too easy - I hardly ever see him hit more than 5 genuine but he was hitting lots of long runs and some great combos like vortex>gyro dlo.

Jesse was really good - I've seen a little footage of him in the past and talked to him on msn but never got to kick with him. He has amazing clippers and is almost guiltless despite only playing for about 6 or 7 months. He can hit phoenix fairly consistanly and has a very solid game.

Ian was playing the best I've seen him play and is now completely guiltless. Scott was also playing well and hit some good moves like fairy drifter and fairy ducking butterfly. He is very consistant!

Hagsey from Rockhampton turned up and was really impressive. He's been playing since March and is really consistant and both sided. He goes tiltless and hits lots of long runs with everything both sides.

We played for a long time and didn't get to Gareths place until 11ish. We then watched sick03, Champs League and got a little drunk. I don't think we got to sleep until after 4.

Today we're kicking again at 2!

I'll try to keep you posted.

Yesterday's kick went well!

It was like 20 degrees C above what I'm used to playing in so I took things pretty easy and spent about 80% of the time trying silly stuff. I think I still got a few good things on video but all my runs were either full of bops or fairly short. I hit fog>pixie blender but completely unsealed on camera, I footed dominatrix>dominatrix on camera - I haven't seen the footage yet so I don't know exactly how close but it felt like the best attempt I've made at it.

I also think I invented a new move which was on camera - it's 6 adds and I think I'm going to name it "Dunce" - you'll understand why when you see the vid. Oh and I'm pretty sure I'll get to name it even if it has been hit before, just because nobody else would own up to hitting it.

Everybody else were playing well. Hagsey was again the standout I think - he was hitting some cool runs and just amazing everybody with his consistancy. This youngish kid called Cameron turned up as well and was pretty good. He was a bit shy I think and maybe intimidated by us so he didn't talk at all but he hit some cool things like double over down and whirl. He looks like he has a lot of potential.

After kicking from 2-6 we went down to Southbank to have a bbq but the nearby supermarkets were shut so we ended up getting fish and chips and beer. All the guys had long chats to Jesse's groupie who kept calling him although I was a little turned off the subject when she told me she was 11. Once the kids were sent home the rest of us went out to some Irish pub and had a lot of fun.

I have a fucked hangover now but am looking forward to todays kick at 2.

Well!

Yesterday was pretty eventful!

As mentioned I was pretty fucked. Dan, Rory and Jesse were like 2 hours late. A good friend of mine who I used to go to school with turned up with a friend. We kicked pretty light, and played some four square while waiting for Dan and co to turn up. I won both games :D. - I'm pretty sure I was the most experienced 4 square player though.

When we finally got into some shredding, I was playing pretty poorly – it’s way too hot for me and having played two 6 hour sessions in a row as well as a hang over didn't help. I think I might have hit some ok stuff. I thought people were giving me props way too easily. At one stage I hit neutron smasher after 3 or 4 attempts and could only seal it with a toe stall but still got props - neutron smasher isn't very hard when you know how to do it and considering the day before I footed pixie neutron smasher a few times, I didn't think I deserved it. I think I made a silly facial expression or something that was on tape.

The real highlight came when this hot young blond (actually all the girls in Brisbane are hot) came up to me and said "You're amazing, can I have your autograph" and got me to sign her arm and later gave me her phone number. My reaction was very uncool I think - mainly because I was embarrassed and surprised. I just mean that I laughed and hid my face in my hands or something like that - It's on camera anyway. It's hard to write on flesh and I have a shit signature too. I've only signed 4 autographs in my life I think (not counting signing peoples shirts at the end of a school year and stuff like that) - It made me feel pretty good anyway. - Half the incident is on camera and I think I'll call her sometime this morning. It could well turn out to be a situation that is technically illegal but I'm only here for 3 more days (counting today) :D

We had some shred off battles that Dan won overall. I lost to Ian when I dropped blurry whirl (later I learnt that Ian went really easy :? - although I guess it was justice since I bailed to a mirage in the battle before against Rory just as he dropped it). Jesse did really well and came 2nd. I really like shred battles because it gives everybody a much more equal chance of winning.

We did a sick 3 as well - which was an awesome format. Basically we said that you have about 5 attempts at each time - but we rotated around so you could have as many attempts as you want. You'd have to change this format a little for bigger events but it made the event heaps more fun - there was no pressure and you were much free-er to try more interesting combos instead of pre planned sick 3s.

I only hit one good combo which was my standard - sumo>phoenix>ps whirl as well as a bonus combo for Anssi ;) but I also tried a lot of cool combos and it gave me a lot of ideas.

Dan hit a lot of combos - the ones I remember which I think were the best are - blurry whirl>blurry whirl>spinning whirl, fog>pixie whirl>blurry whirl, vortex>swirl>torque.

Everyone else hit some good combos as well. Also Ian hit paradon swirl and Jesse hit beta assassin - although neither were linked to anything.

I'm not really sure who one. I think we may put them up on the net and get people to vote for the best combo or something. I'd like to think that mine was the best since it had 3 completely unique moves - no component was repeated and the first link is moderately hard although I guess the second isn't. Clearly I'm biased though and you should make up your own minds (I'm just campaigning anyway ;))

We shredded for a while longer although my legs were really sore and I ended up stopping. This is particularly eventful because on the first two days I was the only person who played from the start of the session to the end without taking a break at all. Still my legs feel better now. And I think I was hitting a lot of "the" stuff near the end - I'd hit like 2 or 3 moves - "the" something and pass it off - so it was probably a waste of time me playing.

Dan was playing really well and hitting some awesome stuff. He hit three consecutive blurry whirls and some long runs with lots of hard stuff in it - vortex>swirl seems like an easy link for him these days.

We had pizza for dinner and then had a bit of a fire hacky kick. I got hit in the face and lost some of my beautiful hair :P but it was heaps of fun. Rory was the bravest person I think and actually head butted the bag a few times. I tried a couple of moves but I was too tired. I did foot janiwalker when the bag had gone out and probably would have hit it if it weren't so dark (I kicked it back up - so I guess you can call it a janiwalker standing clipper or something - tough 4 add!)

Having hardly slept for the last few days, I pretty much passed out after that.

Today we're going busking in the city and later having some kind of jam with lots of jugglers. I think I should play well since my legs have healed a bit - Oh I should mention I iced them in a bucket of water and ice when we got home - I think that really helps recovery.

Peace

That 11 year old was a actually a guy. ewwwwwww (he was putting on a chicks voice the whole time)

Yea Jeremy, you keep picking up those chicks  Ive got a close up of her on tape :P

After a long kick i went with Rory to get something to eat and these 3 hot blondes walked past us and one of them turned around and goes "Hacky sack dude! U Rock!!!" and Rory and i were argueing over who she was talking to. It was quite funy (even though she was obviously talking to me 8) )
Hopefully back one day.

Hey Jesse!

Today was a funking awesome kick! We went busking - first in some big mall but we lasted like 5 minutes before getting asked to move on. I have a big hole in my left laver toe part of sole and I had some stuff covering it but it came out midstring. I on the way to the second spot I finally gave it some thought and took the inner sole out of my new lavers and put that in which fixed the problem completely!

We kicked at like this artifical beach - Dan, Scott, Ian and I busked. Mainly it was Dan and I and we were busting so so long! I don't think any of the really long runs were on video but they were definitly the longest I've seen Dan hit and the longest I've hit in public and maybe longest ever. They were full of big moves too - nothing too huge but stuff like blurry whirls and ps whirls, phoenixs - I can't really remember what else.

We didn't make a great deal of money - like $18 each I think but it was so much fun!!

Later I hit a new combo - blurriest>pdx torque although I think it's only new because I've never tried it before. We played for hours and then we got told we need a licence so we stopped busking and just shredded.

Actually another thing I hit was this huge shuffle run to a certain part of a a song by Juno Reactor - I think the section of music goes for 24 seconds and I shuffled for like 20 of those seconds - I'd hit some stuff before the section started but I dropped before it was over - I think I dropped predator but maybe I'm getting confused.

We then went for a swim and got some food. We were all feeling really sore and tired by this stage but had a cool circle kick and were doing some sweet moves. Garath can do some hardcore shit. You'll probably see some of it in Dan's next routine.

After that we went for a walk and got some SLURRPIES! and went to some juggling jam. We were feeling really fucking sore by this stage and I was pretty much asleep but I didn't want to not impress the jugglers so we played anyway. I think some really good runs were hit but it could just have been my super low standards because of the pain I was in.

I spent a huge amount of time fucking around and being silly. At one stage I spent like 10 minutes trying to position my self in the background of the runs that were being filmed while picking my nose with my tounge. Actually I think I hit two fairly good runs - one just after I'd told the camera that I'd never hit runs as long the ones I was hitting that session (which were all like 5 contacts or less I think) and a second good one after I rubbed some SLURRPY on my legs. Oh and there was one when we started playing to Rage Against the Machine but I don't think it was really amazing.

Dan was playing really well and so was Hagsey - who is so cool! When he first started kicking on friday he couldn't pixie set at all. Today he hit his first smear. His third was midstring and I'm sure he can hit it weak side too!

As the session got later I started being really silly. Some of the moves I was trying might get on video - I didn't get as close as I have before to the hard ones but I hit these just for the camera - Slurry blur (super slurry) and then I hit slurry blur> the paradon repeat ("the" bap drill) but I actually think the first two moves might have been clean - I guess we'll watch the footage tonight but that would be a little dissapointing if they were since I often have no problem accidently "the"ing them.

Dan then left and I spent the next 30 - 45 minutes trying to hit nemesis. Some of the attempts were on camera but many weren't. I footed it a few times - once felt really clean but I think the rest were the. I really feel like I can hit it - I just need to get the foot work right.

After getting really annoyed I went off and called that girl from the other day. AAAAAAAAAARGH - the whole conversation was recorded so I think you'll probably get to see it eventually. Let's just say it didn't go very well. But I still might follow it up despite tomorrow being my last full day in Brisbane. I'm probably going to come up later for a huge end of school party thing that goes one once a year for a week (even though I don't go to school any more). Although when I say follow up - I don't know if I'll be very postive towards her. I think I made my thoughts pretty clear in the vid.

Um, now we're going to get really drunk and more ;) and watch the footage or something.

I am so sore. I don't think I've ever been this sore. It's hard to be sure because I once spent about 2 and half hours trying phoenix>matador>ps whirl - which I finally hit and was my first 5>5>5 and there was also a two day sporting tournament I went to where we had no subs and played like 11 forty minute games of touch football. Touch Football basically envolves running as fast as you can forwards and backwards and the odd dive. Anyway I'm fucking sore. Ian has just given me a crown lager beer - which is meant to be the best beer in Australia but is over rated in my opinion. Although to be honest - I think this one is about the best I've ever tasted.

I don't know what's happening tomorrow but it should be fun :D

Awesomeness. Really loving the tournament report, really captures the flavor and excitement of a tourney. Is Lynton playing anymore? Who would you say are the top 3 freestylers in Australia at the moment?
