What is your financial situation as a footbag player?
What is your financial situation as a footbag player?
This is a really serious question that will help me decide what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. This is mostly aimed towards the players aged 25+ (and ESPECIALLY married players). I would really appreciate anyone who reads this to answer in as much detail as they can.
How old are you? 21 (almost 22)
What is your highest level of education (numbers of degrees/diplomas/etc)? highschool, entering 3rd and final year of bachelor of fine arts (planning to graduate from 2 years of Education following)
What kind of job do you work? I work at a bowling alley
Do you have secure, fulltime employment? Somewhere between parttime and fulltime hours, it's pretty secure as far as minimum-wage employment goes.
What is your take home salary (per year/month)? approx $350 (canadian) every 2 weeks ($700 per month -- probably closer to $600)
What is your marital status and how does it affect your love for footbag and your life in general? I am in a serious relationship and I have been injured for a few months, so it's hard to say, but I definately played a lot more before I became involved.
If you are married or involved how differently would footbag affect you if you weren't? I would probably play a lot more and just work a crappy minimum wage job until I either felt I no longer enjoyed footbag more than living on scraps or my body grew too weak to continue playing.
If you are currently without a steady income and/or significant other what are your plans for the future? (/What are your plans for the future either way?) This is the reason I posted these questions. I am finishing my Fine Arts degree and then going into Education to become a teacher (good income/benefits/security) to help support my girlfriend and I and prepare for life "down the road". We've been talking a lot lately about how if we weren't together I would probably do what I explained in response to the previous question.
I think that's about all. I'm really tired, so I may edit this later. If your answers feel too personal and you don't want everyone to see but want to participate nonetheless you can PM me.
Thank you.

I have played more after I met my girlfriend. She's been really supportive and doesn't feel like she have to compete against my little footbag ball like some might think. :) After all, footbag is good for the body and everybody need a hobby. So we just plan our schuedule so, that we can spend time together and I'll be still able to play alot. Sometimes she comes to see when I practice, even.

Look, I know Erik's being serious about this, because I've wondered the same thing... I'm striving to be a jazz musician. Talk about choosing poverty! (Halfway joking) Anyways, so I figured I'd answer this to the best of my ability to help Erik out.
How old are you? 17 (18 in October)
What is your highest level of education (numbers of degrees/diplomas/etc)? Graduated High School. Start college next year to study jazz.
What kind of job do you work? I work for the state government. The department of transportation... in a big office building with lots of computers. I'm at work now actually.
Do you have secure, fulltime employment? I'm a temp, but if I wasn't going to college next year I think I'd roll up to fulltime.
What is your take home salary (per year/month)? I get around $670 every two weeks. But it's all going towards college finances, which are definitely tough.
What is your marital status and how does it affect your love for footbag and your life in general? I'm about to start dating this really sweet 20 year-old, but she's supportive of everything I do.
If you are married or involved how differently would footbag affect you if you weren't? Well, if I was married, I imagine a lot would change financially. I don't think I could support another person. Not to mention children. But I really want a daughter... I think it'll come down to me having a decent day job, and then gigging at nights, and having to have a wife that would back me up financially. As far as footbag, I don't think it would matter whether I was married or not. I don't play golf, so footbag would be my golf.
If you are currently without a steady income and/or significant other what are your plans for the future? (/What are your plans for the future either way?) Alright. I plan on studying hard for the next 4 years, maybe 6 if I decide to get a masters in music performance. After that, I need to find a regular studio gig and an exciting club routine. I've had a little experience playing in clubs at 17, but not enough. I've got a long way to go. As far as a significant other goes, that will fall into place. And I'll be trying to find a day job, if I can't find a symphony to play with. Maybe even if I do find a symphony to play with. God and I don't even like symphonies. I like jazz.

Not to hijack this thread or anything, but I have definitely considered moving to another country when I am through with my schooling. I'd give a lot to be rid of the problems that America has brought me and will bring me in the future.cclaudia wrote:hey david, move to montreal.. there are plenty of opprotunities for musicians here (gig wise and in schooling)... take it from me, i've got a family of musicians.

What is your highest level of education (numbers of degrees/diplomas/etc)? highschool (planning on going to college to become a teacher after the marine corps)
What kind of job do you work? US Marine
Do you have secure, fulltime employment? Yes, I am never "not" a Marine and recieve full medical/dental benefits.
What is your take home salary (per year/month)? Roughly 1300 a month, 2200 over seas.
What is your marital status and how does it affect your love for footbag and your life in general? I've been very lucky to have found someone early on and have been with her for nearly two years, if we are still together after the corps we will be getting married.
If you are married or involved how differently would footbag affect you if you weren't? As of now my girlfriend loves it that I play footbag and enjoys "showing me off" to her friends. Her only problem is when I can't see her for months and I need to balance time with her and time with footbag.

What is your highest level of education (numbers of degrees/diplomas/etc)? Graduated from Brown University with masters in Spanish Literature, and a masters in History of Nationalist Movements.
What kind of job do you work? I teach English in a high school in northern Japan. Its ridiculously easy, but lots of fun, and leaves me with lots of time to dick around on the internet and write.
Do you have secure, fulltime employment? Sort of... Ive been at this job for 2 years, but the maximum I can be here is for 3. So only one more year of this scam. And what do you mean by fulltime employment? I go to work 5 days a week, but I only TEACH TEACH classes for like 3 hours a day.
What is your take home salary (per year/month)? About 30K a year.
What is your marital status and how does it affect your love for footbag and your life in general? I`m single now, but I cant say that girlfriends have ever really gotten in the way of footbag. Now that worlds is over, I want to take off some time from footbag to let my body heal, so I actually want to get a girlfriend to distract me from footbag.

What is your highest level of education (numbers of degrees/diplomas/etc)? I am currently attending a resource program to obtain a few remaining high school credits so I can enter the post secondary school of my choosing.
What kind of job do you work? I just got out of telesales, and I am currently self employed as a freelance graphic/web designer.
Do you have secure, fulltime employment? Contracts are few and far between, but when I do obtain them, I have solid full time work for weeks.
What is your take home salary (per year/month)? I get paid per contract. Contracts can range anywhere from $500 CDN to $10 000 CDN. I would say I make an average of $2000/Month (A good month mind you).
If you are currently without a steady income and/or significant other what are your plans for the future? (/What are your plans for the future either way?) As far as mariage goes, I don't see that any time soon, and I'm not too worried about it either. As far as my future, I would like to attend OCAD and earn my BD (Bachelor of Design), and maybe a few other certifications such as GAD (Graphic Art and Design), BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) and a webmastering cert to show I can do what I already do. As for my future job, I am already doing it. Finding time to footbag is hard when working on a contract, but in the interim, I love the shred baby. Love the shred.
