Shredster gone wild: Footblog unleashed

Post by Shredster »

July 1st: 2ish PM

Hot...i played in the garage because it was maybe slightly cooler, maybe a sweltering 100 degrees F. Ugh.

*Just drilled whirls, toe whirl > clip whirl (both sides).
*Went inside to the air conditioned haven of my house.

July 1st: 9ish PM

It cooled off a lot.

*Flip Backside smear (first try ever)
*Butterfly > Pdx Mirage > Barrage (rpt) > (rpt minus the last barrage)
*Dimwalk > Pdx Mirage > Barrage > Butterfly > Pdx Mirage > Barrage
*Came up with an insane idea of how to get a 4 dex move by contemplating pixie paradon xbody rake. Should be able to hit that in no time.

June 2nd; Time: Whenever

Earlier in the morning, i was trying symposium double downs. I seem to be able to foot almost all of them (blacula, dolomite, superfly, haven't tried shaft) on both sides! It keeps falling off though :(

On a good note though, my flipside pixie sets are finally cooperating. I figure that before, my foot seemed to want to roll with the bag (makes no sense, i know) but since i've tightened up my foot and relaxed my leg a little and stood more over the top of it, it seems to be popping up no problem.

Just because i can, i decided to hit some moves that i haven't hit before (and have noticed them), or moves that i hadn't hit flipside:

*Pixie SS Whirl (bothsides)
*Flip Smudge (now bothsides)
*Saildown (Sailing SS Butterfly)
*Omellete (both sides)
*Little Apple (Gyro Symposium Mirage)(strongside)

That was cool.

And since my flip pixies were being so nice, i had:

*Pixie legover bsos
*Magellen Bsos
*Smear > Whirl > Pdx mirage (rpt)

So :p...ttyl if you read this.

Yes, lots of work and work on the fence. O well, anyways, i had a decent session, drilling mainly the bails, trying for:

Butterfly > Pdx Mirage > DoD (rpt), hit it both sides, but not rpt. O well, will happen soon.

Still drilling flip pixies and flip spinning.

FUN

TODAY KICKED ASS!!!!

It started off slow, very slow, i was getting very pissed off at my lack of shredability today. However! Things changed very shortly about 20 minutes in.

*Backside Smear Bsos came first. It went:

Backside smear > SS Butterfly > Infinity > Paradox Mirage > Symposium Mirage > Backside Smear >...at this point, i was like "WOW", that was cool, only until i went on to ... > Butterfly > Infinity > Paradox Mirage > Smear > Paradon > Osis > Paradox Mirage > Whirl > Osis (drop). Not bad!!

*Then, I tried over and over to get this:

Backside Smear > Paradon > Spinning Paradox Whirl. Footed it. Damn!

*Then, something really crazy happened. I never ever do ps illusions, but somehow, i manage it bsos first try (hadn't even hit ps illusion on the flipside). BUT I MANAGED PS ILLUSION BSOS!

Pixie SS Mirage > SS Butterfly > Osis > Paradox Mirage > Symposium Mirage > butterfly > PS Illusion > Butterfly > Paradox Mirage > Flail > Butterfly > Infinity > PS Ilusion > Butterfly > Osis (drop)

I remember starting a thread a while ago about bsos being better in the middle of the string, rather than having the bsos at the start and finish. Well, i still think its better having the bsos in the middle.

*Also, inspired by vasek, i went out and tried to hit some swirling moves midrun. All i managed was a toe set swirl midrun, but it looks snazzy.

*Then i went and hit: Backside Smear > Toe Barrage > Paradon. That looked cool, and i realized later it was a tripless string. WTG ME!

*I remember recently when byrin hit paradox mofly. He said mofly was harder and he hadn't hit it. SOOOO...i went to try it today, and within 9 attempts, i seal it! Clean! The dexes may have been slightly thin, but man is that a sick lookin trick. For all that don't know what mofly is:

Toe > op in [dex] > op out [smp][dex] > same out [dex] > Op Clip [xbd[del]. I'm pretty sure its xdex, but i'm going to find out. If it is xdex, its my first 7 add!!! Otherwise, what the hell, its still cool looking.

Hitting mofly gave me an idea for another trick which i will not mention till i hit it. I don't know if its been hit, so until i hit it, i'm not telling anyone :)

That sums it up. I did so much symposium that my ankle felt weak, so i quit before i possibly injured myself.

Thanks for reading.

Ever since byrin complained about his shin splints, mine have been acting up really bad as well...I think i'm going to take a day off (i said that yesterday, but obviously, i can't)

I hit paradox dlo both sides. Very dissapointed that i couldn't hit them within 10 tries, but nonetheless, i hit them

I'm very pissed at my stepping set. I have no idea what i'm doing wrong except for lack of practice. I can't even hit sidewalk bsos...grr, and i've played a year. How frustrating. I think i had blur bsos, but the last blur was slurred i'm afraid.

Who knows. Also, i had 3 pixie ss mirages in a row. That was ok i guess.

Video Confirmation on that blur bsos revealed that the second blur was indeed slurred...BIG TIME.

It seems whenever i go for stepping, its always slurred on one side or the other. It seems like my flipside is the one getting slurred more often, but in my "blur bsos" attempt, my flipside was fine and my strongside was slurred...WTF! PRACTICE I GUESS!!! GRR, i'll never have good tripless combos if i don't have any stepping set (or else it will be really hard...my record is only 3 tripless :()

First day of august and exactly one year since i've moved into medford, oregon. Also, exactly one year since i've started freestyle footbag!

The one year anniversary didn't go well though, my shin splints were terrible, and probably a big reason was not enough sleep this weekend. Anyways, i had no new moves at all. No new strings (too hot) and generally, i sucked. Dyno hurt my legs. GEEZ

I did try for dyno > dyno. Came pretty close

About 9 PM that night, byrin wylie and i were chatting and "whirling swirl" came up. I challenged him to that trick, for whoever hit it first gets bragging rights. I said to byrin i was going to go since i was tired (i truly was), but not before trying whirling swirl myself in my garage.

BOOM! Busted it within about 30 tries. Not bad. I get back online to find byrin is still there, send him the clip, and what does he say first? "I think its 'the'"...i go on saying "yeah, i think its a bit thin really, well really thin" and then he says "i was kidding"...so i just bashed my own move from a joke...haha

In all seriousness, my whirling swirl was pretty decent. The whirl could be much deeper, but it was late and i was tired. SO SHUT UP! LOL

Today just really sucked. Some things at school, SUCKED, then i got home and things SUCKED. Then i thought footbag would calm me down until i realized i SUCKED. Has anyone almost cried during footbag? I think i was so frustrated at everything that day that i almost did cry.

I think i need inspiration of some kind to keep me going at this sport. I'm having troubles having fun and in my opinion, thats the only thing that keeps people going in the first place.

On a better note, during that 1:15 session, i hit:

Dimwalk > Pdx mirage (rpt) > paradon > pdx mirage > Paradon > osis (drop)...y osis? I was so mad!

And Spinning Clipper bsos. My flip spinning sets are getting better. And last time i did a bsos, it was tiltless.

Tomorrow (actually today since i blog the day after) should show better. Hopefully!

Refilled my bag a few days prior. Also realized that perhaps the reason i'm frustrated at footbag and am having crappy sessions is because i'm trying to push myself too hard.

Anyways, stepping is starting to make sense (a concept that has baffled me for a year). I always forget to think of stepping as a Set, not as a trick. Flip pixies are coming along nicely, though if i try them too long, they get bad (for some reason)

Lately, i've hit:

Sidewalk bsos, tripwalk bsos...Flip pheonix, flip tripwalk, legbreaker both sides, stampede..

I came really close to tricks (close by like 1 inch from the delay or so):

Ripstein, terraging same clipper, toe flurry, flurry.

Well, jeremy mirken recently made a thread on "how do you feel about your game?"

I put that i didn't feel like i was going anywhere in my game. My progression has seemed to have just come to a standstill. My inspiration is almost shot, i'm dropping easy stuff like:

Paradox Mirage
Butterfly
Whirl
Pixie sets

And i work constantly on my flip pixies, yet they keep hitting my leg! Then again, if you practice them wrong for 2 hours, thats just 2 hours of wasted time. Who knows. Sometimes they work, other times they don't.

Anyways, today i hit:

Tapdown bsos
Toe set symp whirl bsos

Both of these should not have taken me as long as they did. Also, i consider i'm at a level to where paradon > pdx mirage (rpt) should be no problem. But it is posing a problem not because i drop paradon, but because i drop paradox mirage. GRR...

Anytime i try anything bsos, it sucks because the first trick is normally the one where i always have to overcome. Once the first trick is overcome, the rest comes fairly easy. Also, my muscle memory must be out of whack because a lot of my moves end up with my foot like a quarter inch off...thus, the bag does crappy things like roll off.

In response to jeremy's thread, though i already posted, i'm dissapointed in my game.

August 13, 2004

Decent session today i must say.

Another fine day of stepping set drilling. Its not so bad now that i upgraded to shorter shorts. Anyways, through many failed attempts at this combo (always footed the last trick):

Butterfly > Blur > Butterfly > Blur > Butterfly > Blur (drop). I was only interested in the first butterfly > blur (rpt) though.

I got bored with that combo, so i wanted to try and utilize blurs and ripwalks into some runs. I had:

Dimwalk > Blur > Butterfly > Blur > other
Almost half the rubberman drill (dropped the legbeater)
Ripwalk bsos
Sidewalk bsos

Stepping is just feeling so much more solid. It will be nice to not have to do butterflies and pdx mirages as much as i do now. Upgrades to ripwalks and blurs are ideal in my book.

Also, for some reason i had the itchin to try for ps whirl > ps whirl.

Well, i don't know how many times i hit strong ps whirl, but i had a couple of times where i actually was able to attempt the flip ps whirl. The closest attempt of mine came within about half an inch of sealed...GRRR

Its so funny when you do a trick enough in a day how it gets to be easy. PS Whirl almost felt like a joke, but i'm probably going to pay for that comment tomorrow.

First off, i saw _dimi hit a reverse swirling pickup off modified. So i went to hit

Reverse swirling pickup. It feels cool! Looks flashy too.

I then went for byrin wylies: Butterfly > pdx mirage > butterfly > whirl > osis > paradox mirage (rpt)...but i sucked at the whirls...surprisingly, i hit whirl bsos in a 10 guiltless. Not big, but it felt good.

Then, i went to try flurry. I missed the legover barely.

I also noticed that i have a barraging set if i set the bag harder. I was sooo close to janiwalker. I also noticed that my barrage sets are almost symp...weird. I footed janiwalker about 5 times.

Spinning ducking clipper first try. Nothing too exciting to hoot over.

Then, my whole day changed. PS WHIRLS were just knocking on my door!

First, Paradon > PS whirl (strongside) first try. Weird.

Then, Paradon > PS Whirl (other side). That was cool.

Then, after many many failed attempts of "backside smear > paradon > Spinning pdx whirl", i went to substitute the last trick with ps whirl. I hit: Backside smear > paradon > ps whirl!!

I shifted locations. I hate playing in the garage. Outside is much cooler.

My pixie paradons were really flawless. They felt so smooth. For that matter, i had pixie paradon and ps whirl (dropped, but footed) in the same string. AWESOME!

Since my pixie paradons were doing ooo so well, i gave pixie paradon swirl a try. It looks like a mess on the left side (where the double down and swirl are happening just about the same time). Came sooo close the swirl was off by about less than half a dex.

THEN! Paradon > ps whirl (bsos)?? Well, thats all good except for i dropped the last ps whirl! DAMN IT!

Paradon > Ps Whirl > osis > paradox mirage > symp mirage > paradon > ps whirl (drop)...NOOO! But it was awesome.

Then, just for funsies:

Magellen > Symp mirage > Butterfly > Osis > Paradox Mirage > Butterfly > Ripwalk > Pdx Mirage > Magellen > Butterfly > PS whirl (drop). O well, but it was fun.

Thats all for today, but it was so awesome!

Dizzy as heck, i think i'm sick. I couldn't do a smear without feeling like i was going to fall to the ground.

Thanks byrin!

O, i did hit paralax twice into some runs...inspired by conrad. Super close to terraging clipper (off the foot), didn't come any closer to janiwalker...

O well, tomorrow is another day

Thanks maraxus...i'll make plans to do so as soon as i reach 150 :)

8-19-04:

Well, today kind of sucked. Pixie paradon > ps whirl finally, but it took so long that my left leg hurt. So, that means i did not have enough power in my leg to try for janiwalker again. My runs officially sucked today, they were about an average of 6 guiltless and they weren't even hard runs. I kept snagging smears for some reason, and i just felt as i had no energy. Tomorrow is another day.

I like your use of bold throughout.

A word of advice: don`t push too hard. I have my most fun and most productive sessions when I go out with no goals in mind.

Also, how are you able to remember your runs so well? Normally when a good run ends, I`m like...I hit....something. That`s pretty cool you can remember even the BOPs in your run.

Good stuff, good luck. :)
