After Effects Question

Hey guys,
I got After Effects recently, but am wondering how to make the footbag glow so that it would be easier to follow. I remember reading somewhere that you can do this with After Effects, but I'm not sure how to do this! I'm new to After Effects and Adobe Premiere because I usually use Windows Movie Maker, so any help or advice will be great appreciated! Thanks!
