Footbag on ESPN....com?

Post by LameR »

I was browsing around ESPN.com trying to find a box score for the recent team USA basketball team, while looking around I noticed the "more sports" button, I clicked and of the choices chose "other sports" and soon realized footbag isn't listed under it:

http://espn.go.com/moresports/index.html

I did a search on ESPN for "footbag". Zero results. There are 7 listings under "hacky", but all of them are just stories that mention it in one sentence.

http://proxy.espn.go.com/keyword/search ... &site=espn

My question is this; do we want footbag on ESPN.com? If you click on that link, you will see "news wires". I was just thinking maybe a link to footbag.org or something simple like that. I really don't know if I'd want this though. Let the discussion begin, there are many pros and cons, let 'em fly. Mainstream (not really) vs. Underground, being known as Footbag instead of Hacky-Sack, and many other things can be brought up. Talk it up!!!

A few years back the group on modified all got together and sent messages to ESPN for something, but I don't remember exactly what it was. I do remember writing a nice, cordial e-mail though.

i agree espn should carry footbag since they also carry darts, scrabble and the national spelling bee but there has to be a reason why they should carry footbag because you got to remember there also huge network and you just cant just tell them to carry it.There has to be some reasoning behide it also i think a good idea to send some footage to espn headquarters to get them intrested in it because a visual will get there attention.

I think the best thing to mention in an email would be the physical part of the sport, and THEN compare it to Scrabble and Darts.

Maybe provide some links to videos? Some links to Worlds info?

- OR -

Assuming that they can recieve HTML email, I could write up a generic script to insert an inline frame into the email so that these things would be right there in their face as soon as they open up the email.

That would be sneaky.
Yes... Devious.

Send Worlds Promo vid to them with some bad ass net action, or some another vid from competition, where they can see, that footbag is competitive sport.

There was a campaign to get ESPN to cover the 2003 Worlds.

It never happened, as I'm sure you're all aware.

However, that's not to say it won't in the future.

The promo vid idea is an excelent one. But I think DVD's and VCS's would work better than links to websites.
Comment in the BCS blog if you feel the need to.

I agree. Showing them videos is definintly a good idea, but I think it would be better for someone to send in a burned disc full of videos or something.

I think something like Sick.03 or Balance of Power, ect, would be better because they would have a much more professionial apperiance to them.
