i haven't read every entry word for word, so i could easily be wrong, but it didn't seem to me that anyone in this thread was trying to tell you that homosexuality is right. so you are offended by people discussing homosexuality without every word out of their mouth being "gays are the problem with the world and are a cancer on our society?" this hidden offending is a little different than you openly denigrating people's lifestyles. even if you don't believe in someone's lifestyle, why do you have to make fun of them? are things that are different from your white bread life so god damn scary and offending that you have to make people feel like crap? does putting people down make you feel better?

i don't like people bad mouthing others when they are in a company of like minded others, but when you are on a community of people from lots of backgrounds, you shouldn't be putting down anyone. no one on this thread is saying "gay people are the king of kings, and the only true chosen people," they are just saying that it is wrong to bad mouth others (even if you are doing it indirectly).

this is a great idea: lets have everyone rounded up nicely into one thread so that you can invalidate their lives and tell them that they are pieces of crap because they are going against the will of god. or do you want it so that you can have a list of people not to talk to at your next tournament? this is similar to asking "why don't gay people try and have a conversation with protestors at pride parades?" some people will never change, and you get hurt much more in trying to change them than accepting that not everyone in the world is willing to value people as people no matter if you agree with their life.

I'd like to add to Mike's comments, that if any homosexual people have already posted in this thread and simply not mentioned that they were homosexual for the very reason that Mike stated... then they have spoken up! Why would they need to say that they're homosexual just to express their views?!

Alright. This is difficult for me to decide on, because it seems like since there are opposing sides, either side is going to be finding it "forceful" to have the other side express their opinion. My only thing is that... by taking away one side's right to express their opinion, the other side is also in a way, agreeing to not bash the other side.

That explains why the left and right sides in politics don't get a long... at least one reason, I mean. (This is so bad... this post I mean... I got home at 2 AM and I'm so tired and at work. So I apologize for the incoherence.) You see, if the right side said that they wanted to express their hatred of homosexual lifestyles, and the left side disagreed with that expression, then they would be taking away the right sides abililty to express their opinion, right? But really, when ........ goddamn this is a hard post to write for some reason. I really feel like just exploding and screaming expletives about how I really feel, but I don't want to stoop to that. Alright... let's see. Man honestly I have no idea right now how to even express my opinion on this argument. I'd just like to throw a question out there... why would you WANT to promote something like gay-bashing, when you know it could lead to violence?

Also, Damon... come back. Come on man, we can't lose someone in the community because of this. You've done a lot for all of us, and I hope that some of us have done a lot for you. As much as your edited post angered me... I'd rather have you around for the footbag side of things at least, than not at all. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would want you to stay.

First of all, I'd like to apologize to Jeremy. I was too harsh with him in this thread and he deserves more respect than that. He offered to communicate and not lock this thread despite our obvious differences on the subject. I am sorry if I offend you Jeremy, I will ty to keep things constructive when I get heated. You are simply trying to be the best moderator and human rights observer that you can be, and for that I applaud your efforts. I will not be condemning your efforts in this area again.

To comment on something The other Jeremy said, simply cause I think it is hilarious. We do have a term for Marines here in California. I live less than 2 miles from the Marine base where Maraxus is stationed when he is not in Iraq. Often times when there is not a tour going on, my city is over run with Marines. The popular slang term used for Marines is "Jar Head". I believe there is a term for just about any group used by any other group.

I understand that the use of these words in or out of context has pushed too many buttons. But I view this as good communications. In college we were told in orientation to tolerate everything. Yet we never discussed a thing. Told to basically shut up about it.

This only divides us more. We should be able to discuss why we feel as we do and not be censored about it. Open discussion sets the pace for acceptance and understandability. Simple tolerance is not enough. It is because we are allowed to speak freely in America that Gay Pride Parades can even take place. This year during a Democratic rally, Republicans were outside chanting. This NEVER happens. Generally it is the other way around. I was stunned, but glad to see it taking place.

What is shows is that both sides are now accepting protest as a form of expression, where as before the republicans would look down on protestors. Now they embrace the act and practicing it themselves. See how a little communication can shift a position?

There's a bit of pressure on me I think - because the last three posts were excellent, but it's 2:30 am and my brain feels like Jelly - so I don't really have anything exciting to add to the topic.

Hmm - except water that has been sitting in a glass next to your computer for about 3 weeks should not be drunk [shudder].

I think something Damon mentioned is very important. If you have a problem with something, the best thing to do is to both try to explain the problem and to understand the opposing views. I hope this is an attitude that we can foster in this community!
