Yeh I have to agree, people at my school sometimes are under the impression that everyone who plays footbag/hacky sack does drugs and it gets kind of annoying because I don't... oh well... Probably easier for those of us who don't smoke to say that it makes the sport grow slowly because smoking means nothing to us...

It's legal according to our law, now. Only can be a small little bit and you must smoke in your home. But the cops say they not going to regionze that law or something and are still busting people.

It has more importance than simply what we do in our spare time. It is something that is directly linked to footbag, and is very much present at tournies and jams. Also, as the others have mentioned, it's something that probably needs to be critically analyzed if footbag ever wants to loose it's hippy stoner image and surface as a true sport.

Last time I checked, marmalade isn't a big part of footbag tournaments, so that poll would be of absolutely no relevalance, whereas this one is.

While that point is valid I don't think that this forum represents everyone in the community at large.

Maybe people think we smoke weed because so many of us smoke weed.

Yeah marmalade is definitly cool! Although it really depends on what you have it on. Toast is ok but marmalade on crumpets is a crime! That said, I'll pretty much eat anything

Yes but not everywhere has a bad reputation for smoking connected to it's sport. To the casual viewer, kicking a footbag is pretty much always going to be associated with smoking these days. I don't think that's a good image. Yeah, people can do whatever the hell they want in their spare time, but I think some of the work people are doing to try to make this sport more popular is being drawn back by some of the stereotypes, especially when they're partially true.

WRONG. The hippie image comes from hacky sack. No one is toking up while they shred, and no one looks stoned hitting fearless combos. The European footbaggers aren't considered a bunch of drunks, even though alot of them like to drink. I think the comunity does a great job of seperating the 2, shred from partieing.
And lets face it to get good at this sport you need to have an addictive personality. I'm so addicted to footbag I freekin shake when I think about skipping a day. So it doesn't surprise me that others have similar addictive habits. And it only hurts your game if you let it hurt your game.
For example lifting weights can hurt your footbag game. It can also help your game. Its all about how you aproach it and where your priorities are.

Now to be a complete hypocite: I hate rap music. I wish so many footbag players didn't listen to rap music. Its realy slowing down the game. Maybe the public wouldn't think of us as a bunch of juvinial gansters if we didn't listen to so much rap music. It seems that all that rap is the #1 reason people don't take this sport seriously.

I don't smoke, but I have nothing against it either. I think that footbag has taken on this pot smoking stereotype because a large number of people that footbag have/do smoke pot. Personally I couldn't care less because I have just as much fun playing footbag now as I would without the sterotype. Fun fun fun.

I'm sooo tempted to start a marmalade thread in the kicking circle.

It obviously doesn't represent everyone, but a good percentage of it is covered, and presumably would give a decent idea of the numbers anyway, which is all I was really curious about with this thread.

We have everything from newbies, to tournament organizers, to BAPsters on modified. I think in general, quite a bit of the community is represented.

tell you one thing for all the ppl who smoke an dont drink, last night i went to a party, chiped in 10 bucks for some apple vodka. All i can really rember is we played asshole i was the asshole for every game but one. then some one left to get pot an i started to drink the apple vodka. Next thing ya know its 12 at night im laying out side with puke ALL AROUND me an on me with 2 my friends over me talking, " hope we dont need to take him to the hospital, he is pukeing blood" an a bunch of other shit i cant rember bc im so hung over now its not funny. It took both them to walk me home, not cool bc they walk down mainstreet an i rember i couldnt walk!

I gess my point is kinda like, alchole is legal, i smoke pot all the time and geting that drunk to me is a unuwale thing, i dont like drinking. Maybe once or twice a month i get drunk, and every time i find my self in such bad shape that i dont understand why ppl have to rase such a fush about Ganja i never have smoked so much ( i have smoked 4 ouncs at a party bettween 3 friends, smoked are selfs sober) i have never found my self unable to walk or unable to do any thing thats a normal task. But last night i even left my favoret hat there wouldnt rember it if it wasnt for when they caried me home they told me " if u want you puke coverd hat back its at coolies"

this is why i find pot not to be such a bad thing, but if some ppl think of pot the way i think of alchole i can understand there points but the main line is basicly moser hit it on the spot, Its what you choice to do in your own time.

I think it's more directly linked to men in their late teens-early twenties, which is what most footbag players are.
