Canabian Day: Festival II

Post by Camilleon »

Attention all Ontarians!!!

There is a marijuana rally on Saturday, August 21!!! If anyone is going to be in the Toronto, Ontario area on Saturday, come to Queen's Park and SHRED. I'll be there with a bunch of Toronto's shredders and more from surrounding areas in Ontario, I'm sure. The Marijunana March in May was amazing. We played all day, and there were a lot of people kicking, not just "hippy-hacking", but freestyling. There were at least 10 of us last time, so this one looks even more promising.

You can check out the website for more info:
www.canabianday.ca

Hope to see you guys there!

Hi Camille.

This isn't something I believe in or would like to support, even if there are actual freestylers. Like, would it make sense for serious baseball or soccer players to practice their sport during an event like this? No. We all have to work hard to break this misconception and stereotype that shredders are plagued with. I won't be there.

Well perhaps a fight to erradicate any stereotype is a good one it doesn't mean that no footbag players like to enjoy weed when they play footbag.

I should be able to show up for at least part of this.

I'll bring doobies and lavers, see you party people later!

i don't really see why all you people that have repiled had to give you're entier opinion, she never asked for you opinion whether marijuana is right or not, she just stated the fact that there will be people at that event shredding, go if you want, don't if you don't. that simple.... i mean... i see how some of those replies might bother camille, like she posts a thread and hears nothing but "no i wont go, i don't support that shit".... it's kind of a bit hurtfull to read answers like that when expecting people to be interested in going to a decent shred session, so if you're not interested don't show up, that easy... i think it'd be pretty pointless to post all the reasons why you aren't going and why you think others shouldn't go. i mean, i personally only care about hearing about events, not peoples opinions on that event in particular (unless specified, of course).
so basically, when a tournament in this section is announced, i find it a waste of time to read the thoughts of what people think about that topic (especially when there are at least 5 threads going on in kicking circle and discussion about this exact thing....that i always avoid), i pretty much only want to know when, and where tournaments are....it's better to just leave it at that, to avoid multiple posts about the same thing.
i don't really want to stirr up much chaos with this post, i respect everyones opinions and it was not my intentions to offend anyone if i did.

Claudia; Your right, but your judging people and putting yourself in the same boat (that you created) as the previous two posters (Jorden and Mosher). All you are doing in your message is posting YET ANOTHER opinion.
i mean, i personally only care about hearing about events, not peoples opinions
You give yours pretty freely.
i find it a waste of time to read the thoughts of what people think about that topic (especially when there are at least 5 threads going on in kicking circle and discussion about this exact thing....that i always avoid)
You get an extra add for being a freakin' paradox.

Back on the subject.

Camille, I wish I could go! I don't smoke pot or condone it, but I love to shred and that would be reason enough for me to be there! (People who don't smoke pot probably wont be there so I'm not too worried about stereotypes here.)

However I have another footbag event to attend and this weekend is critical to organize SummersEnd Shred v2.0 in Toronto!

It is happening on the 28th at 10am, Camille, will you spread the word about SES2 at your event on Saturday? It would help get some people out! I would like to see the Toronto Crew come out and represent footbag in their city!

Have a good time, and take some pictures to post on http://www.footbagontario.ca!

Hey Spadrick, just out of fairness.. I didn't give my opinion on smoking weed or sit on either side of the fence really. I just said i was coming.

And bringing doobies doesn't absolutely mean I will be doing any drugs.

Mosher, I am not the one that put you in any categories. I pointed out that someone else did.

Peace.

Man... I can't believe some of you...

This is going to be long because I feel that I have to say some things here.

Did I even mention smoking weed in my post? No. All I said was that there was a marijuana rally and I invited everyone to come and shred at it. I did not say, "Come and support marijuana!" I don't know about the rest of you, but I try to take every opportunity that I get to spread the good footbag word. Rallies and protests (of any sort) are some of the best places to shred at because a LOT of people play "hack" at them. Most of them have no idea that something so far beyond what they are doing exists, and I enjoy enlightening them. In fact, 3 Toronto "hackers" saw Paul Toews playing at the weed march 2 years ago, which led them to buy Lavers and skool their shit, and they are now a significant part of our crew.
This isn't something I believe in or would like to support, even if there are actual freestylers. Like, would it make sense for serious baseball or soccer players to practice their sport during an event like this? No. We all have to work hard to break this misconception and stereotype that shredders are plagued with. I won't be there.
Jorden, I don't really see how your baseball/soccer analogy is relevant. Footbag is nowhere NEAR as popular as those sports. Most people refuse to even consider it a sport at all. That is why it is so important for us to go to these events and show them that it is. If we did not go, the "hippy-hackers" would be the only ones playing, and most likely smoking while doing so, furthuring everyone's "misconceptions" that footbaggers are potheads. Secondly, it's not like some guy was going to see us playing there and be like "Those FREESTYLE FOOTBAGGERS are playing at this rally! Therefore, they and all other serious footbag players must be potheads!" Just the same, if anyone sees some serious soccer player playing in that park, I doubt that they would conclude that he, too, smokes pot. We all know that making sterotypes is wrong, so I will leave the wrongdoing to those making the stereotypes as opposed to those who might fall victim to them.

And supporting the cause of the rally doesn't really matter. Who cares? Do you know how many people who were walking their dogs or taking their kids out for a day in the park simply walked through what was going on or stopped to watch us play? Just beacuase they were there does not mean that they were participating or supporting anything.
(People who don't smoke pot probably wont be there so I'm not too worried about stereotypes here.)
Actually, some people who don't smoke pot were there. For example, Andrew Weglarz doesn't smoke, but he was there, playing and chilling all day.

Claudia, thank you for backing me up here. Zachatree too. It was pretty rude of some of you to act as if I was doing something wrong by inviting you to play. Just because I posted about this rally does not necessarily mean that I smoke, and even if it did, you have no place to tell me what to do or act like it is MY fault that the footbag community is "plagued" with such a stereotype. In all honesty, I saw much more weed being smoked at Worlds than I saw on Saturday.

ANYWAYS, yes the cops did break it up, but that was before I even got there, and there were still a lot of people around. It was the best session Toronto's had in quite a while. Thanks to those who made it and those who tried. It was wicked.

AND....Buskerfest is this weekend! I suggest you all play there as much as you can. I'm camping this weekend (leaving on Friday) so I can't make it to Wonderland, sorry Adam :( . But Buskerfest starts on Thursday, so do you guys wanna come downtown and shred? It's a really good cause so I doubt anyone will have any problems with playing there. The website is http://www.torontobuskerfest.com/. Let me know if you wanna come and PM me for my cell # if you need it. I hope to see you all there.

Peace,

Camille

Ew, I'm not going to play at some buskerfest if Camille the stoner is going to be there.

She'll probably try to force drugs, and her bad image, upon me.

But seriously, I am most defiantely up for some busking. Count me in for at least thursday.

Jesus christ! Just because its a buskerfest does NOT mean that everybody there will be busking. There will probably be tons of people there who don`t busk, and maybe never have. Notice Camille didn`t say anything about ` WE are going to busk` or anything like that. You can take your assumptions, and shove them up your ass Mosher!

Seriously - those of you who didn't go are silly. I don't know if you've noticed - but people with plenty of different agendas go to demonstrations. Some people go there to oppose the demonstrations - some people go there to recruite people to their socialist cult (my former housemates) - some people go there to raise awareness for another issue. Being at a demonstration has never meant that you support the cause. The police were at this one in question and they weren't supporting the cause. That's not to say that they don't - they might agree with the cause - but they are doing their job.

I believe that if you can attend any mass group of people and promote footbag to that group you should and I always do that. Often because you are in a circle kicking and footbag being the of the nature that it is - you can also have a good chat to them about the issue involved and give your views on the arguement.
