my record that I've counted is only like 624 I think. But it gets so boring. I once kicked for 15 minutes waiting for a train (there is a recording that says how long until the train arrives) - I generally get about 100 a minute - so my record is definitly over 1000 - probably around the 1500 mark.
I think you should aim to be able to get over 100 90% of the time - don't worry about going to much over that.
Lots of kicks are good for loosening up before you play. They also make a good light aerobic workout, since I can keep on kicking continously for a good long stretch (as opposed to when I freestyle: 20 seconds of shred, drop, catch my breath for a minute, another 20 seconds of exercise, drop, catch my breath...). Thus, when I am kicking alone, I like to do a series of basic kicks for about half an hour before I start to practice my freestyle. I like to get through the first 1000 dropless before I move on to some slightly more challenging basic kicks. Once in a while I go the whole 30 minutes without a drop. I don't count every single kick, since I do lots of little drills of about 100 or so of one kind of kick, and then 100 of another kind, and some kicks in between these little sets I don't even count, but I estimate that I kick at a pace of almost 100 kicks a minute. I also can get bored with basic kicks (if I'm not doing them in warm-up drills of sets of 100) and I went for 45 minutes once before I stopped from boredom. I started out counting, but was talking to some people at the same time and soon lost count.
Long ago I determined to learn all my basic kicks very well, and over the years I never really got tired of practicing them on a semi-regular basis. Its only recently that I've started to see these as another way of getting a workout, and a workout of a different character than the one I get from freestyling. I'm still not certain of the value of this workout, but I did lose some weight over the last half-year when I was doing this warm-up thing more regularly than I had before. One thing I am pretty sure of though, is the mental benefit I get from this time spent on basic kicks. When I am anxious in some way or another, kicking the footbag for fifteen minutes or so calms me down quite alot. Just freestyling does not always do that for me. I get caught up in wanting to hit certain tricks or combos, and when I'm anxious or excited or nervous or shaky or something like it I sometimes play very poorly. That just results in feeling more anxious or impatient or frustrated or whatever negative vibe I had going on before. But the basic kicks, obviously, have become very easy, such that I can do them without having to work too hard at them or think too hard about them, and after a few minutes the rhythm of it (or something) has a nice effect on my worried mind. The basic kicks are kind of meditative (I don't otherwise meditate, and some attempts at meditation over the years have felt completely fruitless, so I don't really know alot about meditation; the kicks, though, feel like good meditation to me). For this reason if nothing else I'd recommend practicing them regularly.

I have to say I agree with the Outsider. I do the same thing, to a lesser extent. Each session I now start with 200 consecutive inside kicks, as a relaxant + stretch, and then I do 50 alternating toe delays and 50 alternating inside delays. All soothing, when compared to the end of the sassion when I'm attempting to put together 6 guiltless moves, and failing miserably.
I think I got 700 or so, my friend knows the exact number but it was really really boring, we where at school and it was during lunch and we where circle kicking and my one friend got really excited and wouldn't let me stop...
while shredding last week some guy said "do one hundred kicks, right now!" i did 100 and kept kicking then he said "now do a trick" and busted dimwalk> ps whirl. the dewd was in total awe. it was cool. as to my record, i used to keep track, but have no idea any more. well into the hundreds i'm sure.
