Never trust a monkey.

Tonite's session was... well it had a few good things but mostly not so good things.

My warm up stunk. My Osii felt out of control, I was having troubles with Whirls, I couldn't do more then 8 conse Butterflies and My Pdx Mirages were just bleh. On a good note, my "foundation tricks #2" went surprisingly well. I didn't have much hassle with any of them. My Drifters, while I couldn't link them, were good enough that I was able to hit Drifter > Pdx Drifter on bs. That felt good.

But from there, it basically went downhill. I went over spins, and that started decent. Then, as I got more into it, they sucked. I was either not setting them straight, setting them too close, or not catching the bag. Very frustrating indeed.

Next, I tried a few over downs. Bleh, I shouldn't have done that. Need a lot of work.

So that was basically my session. It only lasted for about an hour and 15 minutes, some what short but atleast I did something. Maybe I'll take tomorrow off, I don't know. I didn't stretch tonite and I can already feel my legs stiffening up. I'll do a few before I call it a nite.

I'm a cucumber. I'm a cucumber. Please don't send me to the pickle farm.

Not much of a kick tonite. My warm ups have been doing soo horrid lately, and I have no idea why. My 'foundation tricks #2" have been pretty decent though. Sheesh. In comes one thing, out goes another. You got to love it.

Something good that happened - I hit Drifter > Vortex on one side on the first attempt, but failed miserably at all attempts afterwards. My dirt patch is starting to become more and more sloped as I shred on it, making spinning difficult.

For the rest of my session I worked on my double downs. That went decent, actually. I caught on well, and started to recognize my weakside problem (with Barfly and DDD) and why they were so inconsistant. Basically it's just a matter of opening up the second dex so there is more of a window for the bag. Before I would constantly kick the bag, but afterwards they started to come together. Still could use some work.

A final highlight, I hit the first half of the plasticman drill on my strongside on the first attempt. I have no problems with it, the only thing that holds me back is my weakerside, so I have to get around to do (surprise 8O ) more drilling. Fun stuff.

Anyways, that's basically my nite in a nut shell. I'm headin to Edmonton (I'm hoping) Friday, if not then Saturday morning. Kevin and I are, as we speak, making plans to get together to shred. It'd be so awesome if it happens.

Byrin, where are you at?? Just wondering. Hope things are cool.

Yeah, uneven slopes suck...thats why, even though i have the opportunity to play on grass, i don't.

Wow Ian, I didn't know that. Thank you for the info! I'll try to avoid my dirt patch (or atleast go easy when I'm on it) in the future!

Well, I was away all weekend so not much shredding. I was down by Edmonton, but unfortunately I wasn't able to meet up with anyone (or shred all that much either). It's funny, the two places I stayed at had no phones (or the phone didn't have batteries) and the one time I was out and could use the pay phone, I forgot my wallet in our vehicle. I'm sorry Kevin for not giving you a call like I said I would, but we'll be making frequent trips down there now, so hopefully we can work something out when everyone isn't away/busy.

I had two real small sessions on Sunday, before we came back home. Not much happened during them, except that I hit Drifter > Pdx Drifter bs much more easily than compared to the first. My Vortexes were also pretty sweet.

Today, I kicked for 2.5 hours. It was pretty good. I started out a bit rusty, but gradually got up to par. Went over foundation tricks a tiny bit, then my foundation tricks # 2. I spent a bit more time on Drifters, but didn't really hit much combo-wise. I did, however, hit Lotus (Spinning Pdx Drifter) on my weakside.

Then I went over some spinning, seeings how I wasn't able to do it before. Not as much success came out of it as I hoped, but ah well. I'll probably do more during my next session. The string I'm trying to go for is:

Butt > Spin Clip > Merkon > Butt > Spin Clip > Spin Osis > (rpt)

Came moderately close to doing it, but I'm a bit rusty on spinning so it'll be a few more sessions.

Afterwards... I can't really remember what I did. Oh yes, I went over Pdx Whirls. That went well, except for the fact that when I tried to do consecutives I kept dropping it on the second one. Other then that, though, they are still quite strong. Just a bit more work... like everything else .

Next came some stepping sets, but I didn't spend a lot of time with them. I should go over them sometime soon as well... they are pretty horrid :?

Hmm... went over double downs a tiny bit. Strangely, I hit Barfly, DDD and Paradon on bs on the first attempt, however on DoD it took me two attempts to hit on either side. I feel like going over those sometime soon too.

Lastly, I went over some toe sets. Fairy sets were strangely strong for some reason... I didn't have any troubles doing them on either side. That's pretty sweet - it feels like the more I neglect them the better they get. If only everything else were like that.

I FINALLY can do quantum sets! They are still a bit inconsistant, but just knowing that I can perform them is such a good feeling. And what's a set without something after it, you ask? Well, I hit weakside Tripwalk and then Toe Blur on both sides. And, if that's not enough, I missed the final delay on Atom Smasher > a crappy Toe Blur (the set was darn tootin low). It still felt savage though.

Anywho, I'm tired so I think it's time to bid farewell for the nite. G'nite.

Actually Ian, sometime I want to try doing Smear > Toe Blur (rpt). Just the transition from the Blur to Smear feels so smooth and they blend together so nicely (if you execute them well). It's definitely something I want to bust out in the near future :)

As for my session tonite, it was pretty decent. I basically went over spinning for the most of it. It went decent, I can tell my spins are rusty, but by the time I finished I think they really started to come back. Afterwards, I briefly went over double downs - I will have to devote more time for them during the next session I think. After that, and as final part of my session, I did a bit of quantum/atomic work but unfortunately, because of a dull pain in my right shin, I didn't do very much of it. I had a few semi-decent quantum sets on both sides so atleast I know I can still do them. Other then that, however, the only progress I made was with spinning.

I came close to hitting the string I mentioned on Tuesday (mod time, for me it was on Monday). I got up to the last Spinning Clipper but I got disoriented and couldn't do much out of it. Ah well, I think next session I'll be able to do it rather quickly now.

So that's about it. On non-footbag news, I beat my juggling record - it's now ~610 (I lost count at 610 :? ). Basically I just count how many times I catch the balls before I drop. I think my record before that was... 309? somewhere in there.

But anyways, I should be getting some sleep for tomorrow. Two more days of work, then I get a paycheck. Oh yeah! Then it's off to Grande Prairie for cloth/school shopping. I'm also thinking of picking up a newer, smaller pair of shorts. Then ones I have now are pretty puffy which doesn't help me at all. I'm also going to see if I can find any lighter insoles for my Lavers - if I could find a pair that worked as well as the ones I have now but were lighter then that would be great.

Anyways, that's it from me tonite. Take care and g'nite!

Holy hell.

Alright, the session tonite lasted, I would say, 2.5 hours. I didn't want to do a lot of tricks that involved sets, primarily because of my right calf. What I concluded this morning at work was that when performing the first Illusion in my warm up I may have strained or pulled the muscle right below my calf. I can feel it when I walk, especially when I bounce on my toes. With stretching and some calf exercises I hope that it will heal itself quickly.

But back to the session. For the first 45 minutes I went over Butterflies, Osii, Whirls and Pdx Mirages. I had no troubles doing the tricks seperately. No troubles at all. But when it came to stringing them together, it was hell. I don't know why I was having troubles with linking them, but it was frustrating.

Next I went over spinning again. Much more progress came out of it. I hit the string I said I would hit. I also hit Butterfly > Spinning Butterfly > Gyro Mirage > (rpt). For some reason, that took my atleast 30 minutes of non-stop attempts. I had it on my foot so many times, but for some reason the bag just wouldn't stick to my foot. After tonite, spinning out of Butterflies were no problemo

Finally, I drilled double downs like a mad man. This is what really killed me tonite. To start it off, I hit each (DoD, Paradon, Barfly, DDD) 5 times on both sides. Afterwards, I came up with a way to really drill them. It looked like this:

Dod > op toe > DoD > op toe > Dod
Paradon > same toe > Paradon > same toe > Paradon

Etc etc. I did that on both sides with the four tricks. Barfly and DDD were pretty difficult to do like that. Actually, I couldn't even do it on my weakside. I literally tried until I couldn't hit DDD anymore. My leg was becoming so tired that I wasn't able to perform the second dex. It was madness. So, instead of trying to do the drill I just did a few legit DDDs and called it a nite.

What has two legs and bleeds a lot?

Half a cat!

Such a good session tonite. My warm up went better then it has in a few days, my pixie sets felt so much more comfortable, I was doing wicked with Drifters and I was hitting DLOs with such a high success rate. Fog is definitely within reach once my stepping sets start to smarten up, as is clip set Symp DLO and Smoke.

Now for the highlights :D

Drifter > Pdx Drifter > Drifter > Pdx Drifter > Drifter
Vortex > Pdx Drifter bs
Drifter > Vortex bs
Butterfly > Torque > rpt
PS Whirl > PS Whirl bs
PS Whirl x 3
Mobius > PS Whirl bs
Spinning Pdx Whirl > Scorpion's Tail > Spinning Pdx Blender off the foot (was all fluke though :? )

Damn did those felt good. I don't really know what else to say now. So I'll just end it here :P

What is a chicken's worst nitemare?

An EGGBEATER!!!

So I finally got the jist of Eggbeaters today. They rock! They feel so awesome, especially when everything is clean and smoooooooooth. You just know when you hit a solid Eggbeater.

I didn't kick very much, actually - perhaps... 2 hours in the entire day? Yeah, I would say 2 hours. The first 30 min was during my spare (oh yeah, it was the first day of school) and I didn't really hit anything spectacular. Just showed some friends some tricks and whatnot. The remaining 1.5 hours was afterschool, and it wasn't until I would say the final hour that I started catching on to Eggbeaters. From there on, it was all Eggbeaters.

Some highlights:

Eggbeater bs (obviously :P )
Bubbabeater bs
Pdx Eggbeater bs
Spinning Pdx Eggbeater (unsealed - I didn't expect it and when I seen the bag go up I was like 8O and just watched it drop)

Smear > Eggbeater bs
DLO > Eggbeater  That feels sweet :D

I am also close to Pigbeater - I definitely have the speed but it's just that I plant my pixie set too slowly, which doesn't leave a lot of time to do the Eggbeater. My best attempt I think my foot was just above/beside the bag. Not by much, but not enough to delay it imo.

Anyways, all the Eggbeating has made my shins a tad sore. Nothing bad really, my insoles work real well so I know it could've been worse. Doing Eggbeaters on concrete for an hour will take its toll, so I think I got away a bit lucky.

That's about all there is to tell. My school schedule, well my first semester, is pretty tight. Thank God I have a spare, otherwise I think I would have no time whatsoever for footbag. On Mondays (just to make it easier since I don't feel like writing my entire week schedule) I start off with double spare which is great - do homework, sleep or shred. Then I have Social, then it's lunch. Afterwards, Pure Math and finally Physics. The real time consuming classes are Math and Physics - I expect there to be homework everynite. Social is debateable - last year I heard it was hectic but today the teacher said he was going to be easier. He better be

Anyways, that's pretty much it. Overall, I think it was a good day. Eggbeater! Woo!

Sorry for the blog neglection these past days. I've been busy, primarily with school and this new book I got into. Now, I'm not much of a reader but this one looked interesting. Low and behold, it is :P . It's called "War of the Rats" and is about two super snipers; one Russian and the other German fighting in Stalingrad during WW2. It's basically Enemy at the Gates in +400 pages. Very good book.

I'm not kicking so much since I'm a bit preoccupied for most of the evenings. I did kick on Wednesday, and that's about it. I hit Spinning Ducking Pdx Drifter that nite, which was essentially the only highlight of the evening. I didn't kick long - only an hour or so. I had things to do, but I wanted to kick for the sake that I didn't want to lose my touch.

Anyways, I kicked tonite for roughly 1.5 - 1.75 hours. It was actually a good session. I came real close to hitting Pigbeater - it is definitely do able. The only thing holding me back is my slow pixie set. Ah well, they are coming along nicely as it is so I'm not going to force myself to go faster. Consistancy is more important.

I also tried Spinning Pdx Eggbeater again tonite. I hit it. It will take a bit of time for my weakside, I'm close but it still feels out of place. I'll do some more Spinning Pdx Illusions on that side. Afterwards, I did some spinning practice. It went suprisingly well - I hit Butterfly > Spinning Butterfly > Gyro Mirage > (rpt) in about 5 minutes instead of the 30 min it took my last time. I was very pleased with myself.

Then I did some Torques, working on my technique. I hit some very smooooth and controlled Mobii after. They felt so good. I felt like I could've done almost anything out of them they were so good.

Lastly, I went over stepping sets. They weren't half bad. They weren't good, but they were definitely better then what I thought they would be. Mainly I just did Ripwalks, focusing on where the set was and how much control I had in the set out of them. I'll do some more in my next session, as well as some double downs.

Wow.

Alright, so I wake up this morning feeling sore (not in my legs but rather in my arms, chest and back from heading to the gym afterschool) and groggy. I do my daily morning routine of finding clothes, use the facilities, and then changing my clothes into something better. "Another rainy, dreary day" I thought.

Well, it just so happened that my parents, returning from their morning activities, came home just as I was walking towards our kitchen and the first thing my mother says is "Byrin you got mail." "What the hell?" I'm thinking. "It must be another late bank statement."

I walk over to the table and quickly browse through the bills and flyers. Then I spot it, a small letter with (at first thought) looked like child's writing on it. Immediately I knew what it was when I lifted it up.

It was from Jeremy O'Wheel, and within it was an Aurora footbag AND a letter from the man himself. I had such a big smile when I opened it. The footbag is small - smaller then my Mr. Sandbag and heavier as well. It is pink, blue, light blue, really light blue and it looks like one white panel (12 panels in total). It's great! It's awesome! I can't wait to use it.

I would've thanked you personally Jeremy, but you weren't online so - thank you so much! Now I have two (that's right, 2) useable footbags to kick with! With my birthday coming up, I will surely check out a Mini Abshire but until then I'm going to make the Aurora my choice bag.

You're awesome Jeremy! Thank you ever so much!

Not much to write about... I went down to Edmonton again for a short while. This is so sweet...

Alright, so I went with my cousin to one of his friend's place. There were 5 people there (wait, let me count... 7 including my cousin and I), all chilling on the sofa and chairs begining to watch Eurotrip. We sit down, my cousin introduces me and we watch the movie. Shortly after it's done, my cousin hands me a beer (offered to him by one of the three guys who lived there). They then decide to go outside and sit, talk and drink. Now, I just came out of the bathroom and when I see them outside I went to the front and put on my Lavers - it was either them or rubber boots. I walk outside, and listen to them for a bit. Being a bit bored, I pull out the Aurora from my pocket and toss it from hand to hand. My cousin notices and he announces to everyone:

"Hey check this guy out! He is so fucking good! I mean like, he can do shit that you can't even imagine!"

So now I have all eyes on me, except for one guy who was laying on the couch watching tv. In my jeans I hit with them a horrible Legover, bailed to an even more horrid Osis. They loved it. I then decided to do a few more tricks (almost all resulting in drops since I was working with a bag that needs to be broken in more, cold legs and tight jeans).

Two of the guys that lived there were dumbstroke. They later told me they've been kicking for a hell of a long time and never seen anything like that. They loved it. It turns out, the guy who wasn't there was even more into footbag than they were. So we decided to call him out, let him kick (and think he's good  ) then they would kick it to me and I would blow his mind. 'Sure, why not' I thought.

So we get him out, he starts kicking, and when the bag gets to me I say "Should I take off my pants and use my shorts?" "Yeah man do it!" Alright, so I take off my Lavers and strip off my pants. Meanwhile, the guy that we intended on showing was all like "What? He's pro isn't he? Is he in the Olympics?" and the like. The first trick I did for him was a Paradon, and while everyone loved it, it was a mistake - without any warm up I stretched / pulled a tendon right below my knee. Bleh, it hurts but I kept playing anyways.

It was awesome, afterwards we moved out to the front where there was more lighting and that guy (whose name is Andrew) and I kicked for about an hour. I told him so much about footbag, and I learn that he loves to kick. With my help he landed an ATW and I showed him how to do a Wrap.

It was awesome. I hope he gets into it, he invited me to come back whenever I wanted and we'd kick it up more. He also is interested in watching some videos of real freestyle (I couldn't bust shit  ) but nonetheless, he was stoked. The highlight for me that nite was almost landing Pigbeater for them, after they wanted to see my try a trick I've never hit before.

So yeah, that's my story of the weekend. I thought it turned out well, despite having a kink in my neck and an injured leg.

Oh, and an idea I had while coming down here - I want to compile a CD full of songs that you deem are your favorite. I think it would be awesome to be kicking to the tunes of everyone's favorite songs. So please PM me and tell me what you like!

So is zero songs enough to put on a CD? Didn't think so.

Post by B_Man »

Monday... yes, I do believe Monday, I modified the toe box on my Lavers. I cut the little strips of stitchign on either side of the tonque and did the lacing mods.

Tuesday was a real good day - I hit Gyro Eggbeater and Fairybeater (I guess that's what it's called - downtime Fairy Legover). Bascially a spinning, DLOing, and Eggbeating session. The mod on the toe box really makes difference when it comes to delaying, but my pixie sets were horrid. HORRID!

Wednesday, I didn't feel much like kicking mostly because I was got too interested in my book and didn't want to shred - I wanted to read. Not far into my sessions my entire lower leg (calf, shin and all) were hurting for some reason. I did some work on atomic and quantum sets (which may have caused the pain), and hit Tripwalk and Toe Blur on bs. Afterwards, I called it in and read.

Today was a good session. I went over pixie sets (which are getting better) and stepping sets for an hour. They are starting to come back. Woo! I hit Smoke on both sides, about damn time. It's only been eluding me for what? 6 months? I hit it within 3 attempts on both sides, crazy but good. I also had Fog off my foot, but... it seems silly to continue more later on when I know both my stepping sets and Pdx DLOs could use more work. Ah well, I was curious to see if I had what it took to hit it.

The aurora Jeremy sent me is starting to break in quite nicely. It's not rolling off my clippers nearly as often, though sometimes it seems like it doesn't want to stick. I think it'll be my choice bag for a long time.

yo man!

I will totally send you a list of my favorite songs!

I didn't read this until now, give me three to five business days and I will have internet (I'm at a friends) and you will have songs.

Keep shredding, sorry to hear about the leg pain, I guess sometimes you have to sacrifice to spread the gospel.

I was watching your video of you and conrad and I was thinking about what a dream it would be to also live in buttfuck alberta and just shred all day with you. Imagine if we were in the same town! I would push your game so hard and always feel so motivated to chase you. In fact, I am now on the prowl, here I come Byrin!

keep having fun man.

Thanks Tom! It'd be unhealthy if we lived in the same town because man, I would not stop shredding. My legs would be reduced to stumps in no time ;)

I kicked on Saturday for about an hour and some 15 minutes. I worked on spinning and ducking clippers in the beginning, then did some Blenders. I hit Pdx Blender, Spinning Pdx Blender and Scorpion's Tail on bs before making up my mind that I'm going to work on pixie sets. So, that's what I did :D

My longest pixie string thus far:

Magellan > PLO > Magellan > PLO > Magellan

It started on my weakside, so I was happy with that. I also hit Pixie ss Mirage > Smear and Pixie ss Mirage > Pixie ss Mirage on bs. My pixie sets should be useable in strings very shortly I'm hoping :D

Other than that, not much to report about. The Aurora is awesome. It's getting nicely worked in now and is starting to stall real well.
