Solo Shredding?

Post by Shaun »

Your thoughts on it? Persoanlly I don't like it that much, nothing to really get motivated about. Although you can get more done while shredding solo. I don't like it so much I have been pondering leaving footbag behind for awhile.

Solo sessions are for drilling tricks, trying new tricks, and just schooling. When you are in a group, it's pretty much shredding and, again, trying tricks though not as often.

Personally, if I have a good session I have a good session. I have gotten used to the fact of kicking alone, but what keeps me going is that one day I WILL shred with others on a regular basis. I also like the thought that, when that day comes, I want to leave my mark. I want people to see me for the first time and not know who I am. I want to shred and totally blow their minds. I want them to remember my name after the day is done.

That's my goal and everyday that I kick, I think about that and it inspires me to shred hard, drill tricks and work on the aspects of my game that are weak. Since I play alone, I have plenty of time to do just that.

When that day comes, I know I'll be ready.

Circle Shred- once at Funtastiks last year
Shred with Gordon about four times.
Solo- over 500 sessions. :P

I think solo is the best way to improve, you just have to push yourself to play, cause when you hit that 20 contact unique run, damn it fells good!

Every one at school sucks. Like if i was to go in and pull a legover they would all bow and kiss my feet, but if i said im gunna do a legover they would all look at me like wtf. So i like shredding by myself and just schooling basics and nailin some cool stuff, not just showing off for some noobs (dont get me wrong showing off can be sweet but just not all the time).
Also you can make cool strings and not have to worry about passing the sack or any thing.
So im all for the solo scene....or maybe me and another person, because then you can get feedback.

not to brag, but I play with other people every time I play. I havn't had a solo session in a few months, but I'm still getting alot better. I've been trying to have a solo sesh for a while, but theres always people asking if i want to play everyday. I've gotten use to not playing alone, and I sorta miss it.

Sometimes I like playing alone. Other times I do not. In any case, I hear to shred! ;-]

I always shred solo! I never even seen another freestyler in person. So, don't get down! Lots of people go solo. I find it hard to keep moral up and stuff but I fix that by emergeing my self in the sport as much as possable.
I think I going to take over Canada. You should help.

yeah solo shred is really good but you have to be really commited I think to getting good for it to be useful and for you to not get bored and give up footbag - especially when you're starting. I like to play with people and by my self. Playing by yourself allows you to work on the same things over and over until you get really good at them - The Czechs do that a lot as does Lon Smith (although I don't know if the Czechs do it alone or not). Playing with people definitly has a lot of advantages too - I think it's good to have a balance of sorts.

Lon Smith told me that he puts on his current favourite cd and plays until it finishes every day regardless of how he feels about playing and I think this is really good advice. You have to be motivated and have a strong idea of where you want to get to - not necessarily setting goals but just wanting to be one of the best players in the world or something like that. Commitment is the most important skill to have in footbag!

I have a good mixture of both solo and circle shredding. About a month ago all I was doing was shredding alone and that kinda got me down.

When shredding alone I can work on stuff that needs attention and just focus on certain aspects of my game but in circle you have to keep the others involved.

So, in answer to the question, yes I shred alone. I put my progress down to my solo shreds. My circle shreds are for me to show what I've been working on.

i shred solo and i could almost consider myself as tiltless atm. I've only ever circle kicked with other freestylers once and it was awesome, but that was when i was a huge ass newbie. If i did it again, it'd be twice as better.
So solo kicking isnt bad, but as jeremy said, u need total commitment to be able to get to the level that u want to be. Ive had several thoughts of y am i still doing this for... But i just gotta keep strong and motivated by just watching vids and stuff. I totally love this sport.

That is some good advice from Lon.

To those who say it's easier to improve with solo shredding, I disagree. My largest period of developement as a footbagger was in the month where me and a couple of other friends would play three times per week, rain or shine. That month I improved more than any other three months that I played.

Solo shredding is an obstacle to overcome, but it is doable. If I remember correctly, Jordan Moir plays or played mostly solo, and he turned out ok (I guess :)).

I think soloshredding seems to work for me for the same reason as it does for Byrin. I am working really hard in anticipation of the next time I get to play with people.

I shred alone everyday, recently I was honoured with the chance to bust with the Brantford Footbag Association and right when I got home I started drilling so that the next time they saw me they would say "damn! you have improved!".

I am a new trick high junkie aswell.

Most of my shred is alone but luckily, a few months ago, I roped a soccer player into footbag and he's been steadily progressing since, he's always up for a hack, and just before worlds I met Mathieu Larocque who's got two years experience on me, and he's a twenty minute drive away so we kick together maybe once a week, but most of my shred is solo shred in anticipation for the next meetup.

p.s. maybe tomorrow in kingston :D

Shredding alone is never fun for me. I've almost always had someone to hack or shred with.

All I do is play solo, all my friends suck and won't play with me.

However, the one time I do play, I do trick circles. We each pass to each other and then do a trick. I was playing with a dude who did a clipper and a ATW. I only did a head stall, and a toe stall, sucky me.

I'm not a huge fan of solo shredding because I get tired too easily. I like to smoke a tiny bit of pot when I solo shred because I find my endurance is alot longer and it makes me more focused for solo shred.
