Musical Confessions

Post by innersmile »

Ok, we all listen to music; usually we are into the image that certain music genres hold for us as well. I know we all have 'uncool' artists that we can't help but like no matter how mean our tatoos are or how many piercings we have.

For me, my musical 'sin' would be R.Kelly (forget the molestation shit, just his music, and voice). Technically, R&B and Gospel are my 2 worst genres of music but I really like him. His Greatest hits album is really superb and I get goose bumbs in some parts.

I just bought his new disc 'happy people' yesterday and while not great, it's pretty solid. The 2nd dics is super, heavey gospel but it's actually the better disc.

BUT: let's keep the daggers away and not tear anyone apart because of their choices. It's just for a laugh; if you had told me when I was 16 that I'd like R.Kelly I would have laughed in your face (after kicking you in the nuts)...

Funny how shit comes together sometimes you dig?

I guess there are groups I listen to sometimes that could be seen as not cool - The Hollies, The Beatles, lots of classical music and Jazz (although really if someone thinks that Jazz isn't cool they are very ignorant!!) but I've never really cared what other people think is cool or not - if I like something I'll listen to it, and if I don't like it I won't - regardless of how other people feel about it (although I probably wouldn't listen to it around them since I'd respect their feelings about it) - so I tend to think that all the music I listen to is cool.

Hang on - Beatles, Classical music and Jazz are NOT COOL??!?!?!?!

Damn.

I love this stuff.

..

I still dig Iron Maiden and the Toy Dolls. That stems back from when
I was very very young, and it always brings up good memories.
I remember being able to sing along to almost every Maiden song
(I didn't listen to anything else from age 6-11) before I could speak
a single english word.

edit: wise words jeremy. You took the words out of my mouth.

they seem like they aim their music mainly at women

and jean luc ponty, hes a electric violininist and unbelievable, but i kinda think its meant for the elderly, or a more mature class of people.

I'm not ashamed tho!!!!!!

Looking in my CD case most people are surprised that a 16 guy would have 4 Tom Jones discs, 2 Buddy Holly, 2 The Everly Brothers, and 2 Loius Armstrong plus an asortmant of Blues and some rap, and 4 Barenaked Ladies CDs and 3 Tragically Hip.

Most people think my music is lame and an odd combination but I like it all!

Why has nobody commented on the Hollies? A few people have said that they think the beatles, jazz and classical are cool - so are the hollies really uncool? They rock!! - Long Cool Woman (In a black dress) is one my all time favourite songs!! - if that's not cool I don't know what cool means 8)

Iron Maiden rules. I still sing along to every song.

My confession would have to be 80's new wave: Duran Duran, A Flock of Seagulls, etc
