different leg lengths [was: Is it just me?]

Post by habitat »

I don't know why, but it seems to me that my left leg is about 2 cm longer than my right. It really messes up my balance. When I delay the bag on my right (strong side, shorter) its really easy to keep my foot off the ground and steady. When I delay the bag on my left (weak side, longer) it seems I have to lean just to keep my balance and its very hard to set straight.

This has really halted any progress I have with my left toe. I just learned left foot ATWs both ways, when yesterday I was footing PS whirl both sides. It really only seems to be a problem when I try to start a move directly from the left toe. It makes my atomic set very leggy. And also I can do double switchovers set from the right. Does this make sense?

Is it possible that my longer leg is the problem? Or am I just trippin? Does anyone else have this problem? Should I just work the shit out of my left? It just seems kinda strange to finally get ATWs down after 2 years.

Dude go to a chiropractor alot of what they do is bullshit but the defentently can even out the length of your legs...... I had the same problem and it turned out the problem was actually with my hip...

Are you sure that one of your legs is longer than the other?

I have a similar problem - I'm just starting to really school flipside
atw's, and I, too, have a balance problem. However, I blame it on
never really skooling my left toe. I think it's just a matter of skooling.
Maybe.

First post for me in awhile...

I also have legs that are different lengths. My left leg is about 2cm shorter than my right. For some people this is caused by an alignment problem (usually the alignment of the pelvis or hips), for others, like myself, the bone is actually shorter. I was told by a massage therapist that this was a genetic problem--something that was later confirmed by finding the same problem with my mom's legs.

You can check for yourself but it is somewhat difficult: Sit with your legs outstretched and check to see if your knees and heels match up.

The problem often will tend to throw the spine out of alignment, leading to back pain. I would recommend having a professional take a look...

In my case, I got some special lifts for my left shoe. It really made a big difference.

I was told this info by a professional who gave the required scholiosis (sp?) tests at school in 9th grade. I also was told by this professional that it would go away as I grew, I'm currently in 12th. Also my shoulders dont line up, they're leaned over.

Adam, I did that test and my left knee and heel is longer than my right. Sometimes I get back and neck pain for no apparent reason, maybe this could be why from the sound of your story. I don't have insurance or money, but when I get the chance, I will definately get this checked out. Thanks everybody for the advice :)

At first I was like "why does that matter?" then I looked and saw where you were from.

Oh, Canada.

Sorry to hear about your pains man.

I think busting ATW's at 2 years is a pretty good pace, keep it up! :P

I think Tom is poking fun at the fact that you need either insurance or cash to seek midical care, while he doesn't.

I had the same problem my right leg was shorter than my left leg by i dont know how much but it was. So I went to a chiropractor and he took x-rays and shit and ive been seeing him for like 2 years and im cured. I still go to see him like once every 3 months more check-ups and he craked my back and shit.

Wow -- thanks for this thread!
I am pretty sure my left leg is longer than my right. Do you others with this problem ever find yourself constantly resting all your weight on your shorter leg side? I do.
I have constant back pain.
The athletic therapist I am seeing for my groin (which actually turned out to be a strained hip flexor) said that my pelvis was out of alignment and jerked it back into place for me (????). He said it was fine the last time I saw him, but I still have that back pain and joint pain where my leg joins my pelvis when I try to stand straight with my weight evenly balanced.

Since grade school I've always sat on my right foot. Now I find out that my right hamstring is about 2 INCHES shorter than my left hamstring. I can touch the floor with my left hand, but can't even touch my toe with my right. I can't say it affects my footbagging, just my flexibility a bit. I do find myself putting most of my weight on one foot or the other, but it's not a specific foot, I just find it somewhat uncomfortable to balance the weight between both feet.
