Tournament/Worlds Stories in Here
So I was thinking, before the memories from Worlds become too distant and faded, there should be a thread where people can post random stories about their experiences at Worlds. Not necessarily footbag in general, but maybe an interesting story involving footbaggers that took place during the week, or any other interesting stories that may have gone untold to modified since now.
EDIT: I just realized that there's no reason to limit this thread to just Worlds stories. If you have any good stories from any footbag jams/tournaments, feel free to share.
I'll get the ball rolling:
It's Monday night, the first player party at El Zaz Bar. I'm sitting in the packed bar near Chris and Colin from home, Seath, and Andrew and Camille from Toronto. We're all drinking and having a good time, when suddenly we see Vasek walk by. He's got a pitcher full of some mixed drink with a straw in it, and as he slides by our group, he extends the pitcher towards us, in what is obviously a "Cheers" type gesture. Totally getting the wrong impression, my friend Chris thinks Vasek is offering his drink, so he reaches out and drinks from Vasek's straw. I kind of stand in disbelief as I just realize that Chris drank from the World Champions drink when he really just wanted to clink glasses with us.
I explained what he had just done to drunken Chris, and it goes without saying he was slightly embarassed. Apparently he went up later and cleared up the misread with Vasek later and told him he would buy him a beer. I don't think he ever got the chance to ....
That's the end of the story. I hope it wasn't too much of a 'had to be there' story, because at the time (and even now) I still find it quite funny.
Share your stories folks!

.. okay, I'll share just one random Worlds experience.
One of the nights (I think thursday after "night" shred at Rialto) there were like 4-5 of us that decided to walk to the bus stop and take a bus down to UQAM. It was quite a walk, but we made it and waited for a bus there. Then when it finally showed up, we noticed that there was a ton of other footbag players running and yelling 'wait wait for us' and stuff. Some had just made it and were saying to the bus driver lady (a scary looking one) that she should wait for their buddies. Well, she did wait for a couple minutes, but the people just kept coming. I mean a lot of players. So after a while she just decides to leave and left some behind, but at that point we had a night bus full of footbag players!
Now I don't remember too much of what was said in the bus, but I can assure you it was hilarious. I laughed almost the whole way back. Maybe someone else that was there could remember some of the stuff.
Oh I almost forgot. All of a sudden, the bus stopped in front of a gas station and the driver lady just gets up and goes there to buy stuff!! Everyone was astonished and in disbelief and for a while we didn't know how long it will take her. She took her time and came back saying nothing. Just kept driving like nothing happened. I don't know if that's common in Montreal or what, but I thought that was weird.

I remember that .. I was one of the ones fortunate enough to make it to the bus before she drove away. Good times.pillar wrote:.. okay, I'll share just one random Worlds experience.

One of the nights...I was chilling with Chad, suggested we could go get some eats. He thought the word "eats" was pretty funny, but that's not where I'm going with this.
We ended up going to the 99cent pizza place, the "we" being Dave Clavens, Chad D, Me and I think Cole Hobson. If I'm wrong, correct me. It was like 1am, so we were all pretty chill, just hanging out chatting. Chad was talking about his old jobs, what he does non-footbag related, shred stories, whatever. It was pretty cool talking to this guy I'd idolized pretty much since I started, and talking on "even/equal" terms, as in we were just regular people.
One story came out from him, he was kicking with some guys in Cali, and this group of hipster guys came up, and for every trick they'd be like, "You're joking! What..no! You're joking! You're joking!"
Dave and I were laughing pretty hard, and that became an inside joke for the rest of the week. We'd say it for pretty much anything.
We'd also intended to run up to Chad in a circle and start going, "What! You're joking! You're joking! Ah You're joking!" Unfortunately, we never did. *shrug*

one of my favorite worlds memories was maybe like, friday night chilling with the nova scotia crew. i had gotten locked out of my room (everyone was out partying) so i walked down to their room and me and all the guys just stayed up talking and jugling and stuff. that was a lot of fun. after that i still couldnt get in my room so i slept on the couch in the rochester room. that wasnt fun.

That was a really good/funny night David, but you should have gone in more detail, so it's funny to everyone except those who were there. Allow me ...david wrote:i got a good one.

We (Me, Chris, Colin and Rob, NS Crew) had been to the strip club that night, and we were just talking in general about the club and what they are like with David, who obviously had never been to one. We were talking in specific about the lap dances, and how they have the rule of "You can touch anything" minus the vaginal area.
We then precedeed to talk about how it would be humorous if someone asked for clarification on a certain random body part that no one would normally be allured to, and asked if they were in fact allowed to touch during the lap dance. The example we got the most laughs out of were earlobes.
Seriously, picture how funny it would be to ask a stripper if you were allowed to touch her earlobes, and then once the dance started you just started caressing her lobes, while moaning.
Either that or we thought it would be hilarious to just start messing up the strippers hair while she is doing the private dance, because, hey.... it's within the rules!
Anyway, we all had a good laugh at the prospect of being complete morons during a lap dance ... Good times.

Sorry to drag this up, but its a funny one:
It was after finals or something, and I was having some poutine with the Linnanen's, and Ville. Anyway we are talking about the differences of Canada and Finland (They have a tv tax
) when the subject of christmas came up. Heres sort of the conversation:
Some fin: Yeah and then for christmas we normally bake something that noone likes, and eat it.
Me: Why?
Some fin: I dont know.
Me: Is it tradition or something?
Some fin: Sort of, but not really..
Me: Well whats it taste like?
Some fin: Pretty bad.
Me: Is it salty?
Some fin: No, not really.
Me: Is it sweet?
Some fin: No, not really.
...
Anyway this went on for a while, maybe 30 an hour, a REALLY long time, and then finally I learned what they were talking about.
Gingerbread
I cracked up and we were all laughing for the longest time. We made some crude jokes about the waitress and cans of coke too, I can't quite recall... wait oh yeah.
Jere Linnanen: Yes I would like to have the largest Coke you have plz.
Rude Waitress: Yeah ok. You?
Me: I'll just have a small thanks.
She leaves, comes back, and brings us both our cans of coke. The whole restaurant was pretty horrid, but ahhhhhhh good times

One of the coolest times was when me and Tom Mosher decided to go over to the A&W for a drink/bathroom break during the first Tam Tam Jam of the week. So we got over there, and the bathrooms were upstairs in a hallway at the back of a cool lounge to eat in that was part of A&W. So we decided to have a shred up there. It was so much fun and was an awesome one on one session, especially with the location. I think Tom hit his first fudge and hit some other cool fairy moves. Good times

I think one of the funniest things i have seen in my entire life would be when Chris, Tom, Rob, Cole, And I were just chilling in our room after smoking a couple bowls out of the hooka. Tom gets up and accidently spills the bong water out of the hooka. All of us were like "Sh*t Tom, you spilt bong water everywhere". Tom runs face first into a wall screeming "EVERYTHINGS ON FIRE".

oh man i remember that night running for the bus! that was hilarious. i remember being with derek, dylan fry, andrew from georgia, dave purdy, maybe james and nick laroche, and loren on his stolen bike he bought off a crack head, and we walk around this corner and see the bus pulling up. it's about 2 blocks away, and in one instant about 20 footbaggers all say "Oh Shit!" and start running like maniacs! people that were carrying things just dropped them and booked it (i lost the last of my poutine and my frutopia). i remember flying full out and being one of the leaders, i took a peek behind me and realized that if i fell i would be stomped into the pavement. i look back infront of me just in time to see a curb that i trip on. i tuck, roll and poped back up in an instant and kept on running with my head phones swinging behind me, for fear of being trampeled. that was a fun night!
A.G.
