Alternate Toe Stall?

Post by Prenz »

Hey,

You know how there are two different toe kicks right? The "lift" and the "snap" version? Well I've been doing toe stalls that are like the snapping toe kick instead of the normal "lift". Basically, you don't raise ur foot to catch the bag, u just angle ur foot upwards relative to ur leg, then angle it down as the bag makes contact, and then spring it back up like a toe snap kick. Its all one smooth motion, no stopping.

Looks really sweet, is this move done/known?

If you do that kind of a delay and throw it behind your back and back up around your head, its a pendulum, but otherwise, i'd say you just have a fancy way to stall on toe and a fancy way to set it back up.

Yes the move is done and known. An example of someone who does them is Vasek Klouda - I use him because there's so much footage of him around on the net so you are bound to do it - lots of other people do as well - Jeremy Mirken, Ales, Lynton... infact probably about 50% of footbaggers. I sometimes do it but I'm not very good at it so I tend to do the lift more often.

edit: Take it from me, you cannot invent a new move until you are really good. As far as I know I've invented one move and named two others - all of which were 6 add moves. Don't let this stop you trying inovative things though.

I don't think its anything like a pendulum. Your leg doesnt move at all, just ur foot. Also, when u catch the bag for a pendulum, u don't angle ur foot down to catch the bag, u keep it stiff. The pendulum's delay comes from ur leg dropping into the swing.

So either I fail to see the connection, or I didnt explain the move very well.

pretty much Prenz, your talking about "toe flick" vs "toe lift" set/stall. Personally I flick with my right toe and lift with my left toe.

I was only saying if by chance he were to throw it up and around his back, it'd be a pendulum. I didn't say the original description was a pendulum. :)

I don't know if thats an exception, considering the doof, frigid osis and anchor. What else could possibly be left? Draping a leg over your shoulder and stalling on that toe?

I had this crazy vision once of the insane future of footbag being taken over by gymnasts and strings become crazy tumbling strings with like 14 dexes per trick.

While it helps to have lots of footbag skill and experience to invent knew stuff, it is not a requirement. New ideas can come from a new pair of eyes, unencumbered by expectations based on previous experiences, expectations of what can and should be done with a footbag.
As far as I know I've invented one move and named two others - all of which were 6 add moves.
Most of the moves I've invented were three adds, some even less. Stuff does not have to be impossibly complex to be something new, though I used to see it that way too.

sounds to me like nobody really understood what he meant.

while everybody is talking about the "snappy" toe kicks, he is talking
about that same snappy motion, but instead of kicking it he's stalling it.

I'm thinking of it as the reverse motion of a snap kick.

hmm im visioning it, and it would look pretty weird, stalling it with just the cushioning of a reverse flick... :?
For me, im a lifter, i dont flick unless the bag is way in front of me.

Yeah thats exactly it man...

Thing is, with the reverse toe snap motion, it ends with ur foot being angled really low, and the bag would roll off if you left it there. So you have to snap it back up right away. It's one smooth motion and looks sick. You shouldn't hear any sound of bag impact if you do it right.

Is this what most people understood it to be?

yes I understood that and I'll repeat that hundreds of people have done this move in the past.

Vasek does it, Ales does it, Ryan does it, Jeremy Mirken does it, Lynton does it, lots of people do it!
