My Quotes / Signature

Post by Jeremy »

I must say I'm very happy about the response to my last signature - not only did a few people pm me asking me to change it, but some others decided to mock it in their own signatures too.

So I've got a new one, which might be even better :D

I got the last one from a pro us military site that had a bunch of quotes about the Iraq war - saying what a disaster it was going to be - and was then commenting how they were all wrong - it was last updated about a week after the fall of Saddam and people were meant to read the quotes and think - "you idiot" I guess.

But I've found an even better website:

http://www.famousidiot.com

Not only does it have a huge database of anti war/anti us/anti bush quotes from many famous actors, politicians, artists and "almost famous" people like Hunter S Thompson (Who is a very famous journalist/writer who wrote "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" amongst other stuff) - but it has comments from people about the quotes too.

I will now judge all American's based on the intelligence of those people and it's great to see what an excellent understanding of politics and the world the US has - truly a most highly educated country :D

(the last paragraph is a joke)

Yeah and Australia makes great bounds in world peace, politics, industry and humanitarian efforts....... o wait that’s not Australia.. They wrestle alligators

Why do you hate America so? Your government’s in Iraq too I believe (not sure) and we had some reasons. And you know what rules? If it was the wrong decision Kerry will win and soon enough pull us out (which I disagree with). Our whole system is made up of checks and balances so no one person in any term can totally fugg things up

I suppose Bush hasn't raped us enough to consider things fucked up?

1. Patriot act
2. Record deficit previously held by his dad shattered
3. Economy still shaky
4. Hated by most other countries in the world for our arrogance and our current agression
5. No child left behind act
6. Tax cuts for those who really don't need the extra money
7. Lying about what Iraq has and doesn't have
8. Threatening the UN with anthrax.
9. No real soloutions for Iraq
10. Imprisioned people without warrents
11. Those people aren't, and won't, be represented by lawyers

This list is really off the top of my head. It seems to me he did a pretty good job of fucking things up.

I seem to say this every week. I am very critical of Australia too. If you want to here my criticism of Australia create a topic about it and I'll be happy to write lots of essays on the many problems we face.

Approximately 4% of people on this forum are Australian and about 1% of those are of voting age and able to do something about the situation in Australia. Approximately 52% of people on this forum are American and around 26% of those are of an age where they can do something about the American situation - it seems much more relevant to criticise the US than to criticise Australia.

On forums that are mainly Australian and bring up politics I am very vocal about the many Australian issues I have a problem with - I don't see what complaining about them here would achieve.

I don't hate America - there are many things about the US that I like. I disagree with American politics - both republican and democratic and I disagree with the way the US became the most powerful country in the world and the way it exploits much of the rest of the world.

I also think that many people in the US will vote in the upcoming election on issues other than the war on Iraq and even if they do believe that the war on Iraq is right I will still disagree with them. I accept the fact that there is just as much chance that I am wrong as the people that support the war are wrong and so I welcome hearing views that are opposed to mine but at this stage and since there was talk of war in Iraq I have been opposed to it - mainly on humanitarian grounds but also because I've studied history enough to see that it is very unlikely to achieve any kind of peace and sets a very bad example to other countries - especially Russia who are now starting to say the same kind of things that the US said in the lead up to the war in Iraq. Peace comes through understanding - not conflict.

As I have mentioned in the past I consider myself a citizen of the world before I am a citizen of my nation.

i completely agree with jeremy, If you dont dislike america at this point in time, you have something wrong with you. America has been a bully, and always will be. That will never change, and neither will MY hatred for this country. Once im 18 im leaving this land.

Gus your signature shows how power hungry and arrogant our country really is.

Hmm - I wonder why that is in quotation marks. Are you quoting somebody? If so then usually you put say who quoted it at the end. For example in my signature you'll see a quote from Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp is a famous American actor - you may have heard of him - he's been in movies like "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and "The Pirates of the Caribbean"

Are you directing your signature at him or at me?

Rather than bashing "America", we could be bashing "American Politicians". There is a huge difference. America is a great place. Nice people, excellent terrain. Almost every type of weather you can ask for. We have national parks that are beautiful, and a really interesting history. I love America, and I love my country. The only thing I don't like about this country is some of the politics. So what I'm trying to say is, let's not assume that every American is just like president Bush.

Absolutly correct

When you bash america I feel like your attacking me and the history of great people that have lived here.... go ahead and talk shit on the politicians but don't insult and entire nation. What about the things americans have done for civil rights and all that junk.. we are not all evil money grubing bastards....

I think it depends what you mean by helping more countries than anyone else does. Like Australia, most of the aid the US gives to other countries is directed at helping US interests - not the people of that country. The aid is not aid that can mean you will one day stop having to give them aid - it is aid that keeps them dependant on that aid so that they are continually forced to support the US on issues that they would otherwise not. That's why Ethiopia is part of the "coalition of the willing" and it's why Australia gives $224 million AU to Papua New Guinea - the majority of which actually goes to people like Kerry Packer who can then use it to increase profits and abolish workers rights and unions - all of which is in Australia's interests but not in the interests of Papua New Guinea.

Also for the people that still don't understand this. The Government and politicians of a country are the representatives of that country. When George Bush decides to go to war in Iraq that means that The US goes to war in Iraq. When John Howard says that the nasty children from Iraq who flee to Australia should be locked up in prison until we can send them back that means that Australia supports this policy. The fact that the vast majority of people in Australia do not support the policy and most of the rest have been misled by the lies Howard has told does not change this. My nation supports the locking up of children despite international law and the condemnation of many human rights groups.

When I, or anybody else, bash American policies - I am bashing the policies of those elected to represent the people. They are your voice - if they don't say what you want them to, you should do something about it. That's the way international politics works. Please try to understand this and maybe educate yourself on international politics a little before commenting on it.

well i don't know if anyone knows this, but since the US is SO huge, its almost like 2 countries altogether. the east coast is more republican, and the west coast is democratic (leading more and more towards green party every election). now EVERYONE i know here never wanted to support Bush in the election, so i have no clue as to why he won. and you gotta remember that as far as the "popular vote", Bush DID lose, so we in fact did NOT elect Bush. but because of some wierd loophole, he became president anyway.

Yeah that's probably the case but he's still the representative of your nation - he still speaks for the people. It doesn't matter if you agree with what he says in your behalf or not.

edit: - When I say it doesn't matter - it should matter to you and those people he is speaking for that don't agree with him - but it doesn't matter in terms of him being your leader and his views being, politically speaking, the views of your nation.

Hey we dont have Alligators in our country, you do. We have Crocodiles! They are more badass.

So back off!! :D

Just joking! I'm not really in the mood to talk politics, not that i know much about it really anyway. I would agree with Pinkus that the discussion should really only be about American politics, and not America in general. Its the government that gives the country a bad name; the same thing is happening in Australia  woohoo go me
