Vocalists

Post by full nelson »

Who are some of your favorite vocalists? I really enjoy good lyrics, but sometimes a voice just transforms into an instrument and the lyrics don't even matter. Not many people can do that. Anyone cross your mind? Or is there just someone you like to hear?

Geoff Tate from Queensryche has one of the greatest voices I think. Hearing him sing Take Hold of the Flame is something to behold...huge range.

Tarja Turunen of Nightwish.
The first song I thought of when I read your post was "Deep Silent Complete" by Nightwish. I think you would like it, Brad!!! (Seriously -- check it out!!!)
(Also listen to "Over the Hills and Far Away"!!!!!!!)

Zach De La Rocha is the funking shiit!! Even in the rare solo stuff that's around for his new album he still rocks!! It's such a shame that the best vocalist and the best guitarist in the world are no longer in the same band.

Josh Homme- Queens of the Stone Age
James Hetfield- Metallica
Eddie Vedder- Pearl Jam (one of the best t shirts I've ever seen is, "who died and made you Eddie Vedder?")
Guy from the Datsuns, I should know his name
Bruce Dickenson- Maiden
Phil Anselmo- Ex Pantera
Kurt Cobain- Duh
That girl from the Distillers rules, as does Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth
Chris Cornell- Super unknown album of Sound Garden rules.
...and finally, the vocalist for Kings of Leon. "I love to watch you when you're dancin'!"

8)

EDIT: and Nick Oliveri (sp?) from Kyuss...

Dude, I like Rage, but I hope you didn't just call Tom Morello the best guitarist in the world.

Sorry to be a bitch, but it’s "morRissey" - my Smiths albums would collectively turn over in their theoretical graves if I didn't fix that one. Anyway, I second the motion - Morrissey is not only the greatest vocalist in the world, but he also managed to single-handedly distort my perception of masculinity resulting in an over-abundance of tight trousers and nancy-pants histrionics.

Easily the best guitarist in the world. How can anybody doubt that? I geuss it could be argued that some classical guitarists are better - people like John Williams or Tom Ward but having heard all three play live, I have to say that I found Tom M. much more exciting to listen to.

He almost never plays real chords, for one. Half the time he's just breaking his equipment (or just using it improperly) to get cool effects.
