Injured Footbagger Status ?

Post by HooD »

I was going to make this solely about Sticky Ricky's Status, but I thought, make the thread more useful. So any injured footbaggers out there, post the status of your being.

I'm a big fan of Ricky, met him at Worlds 2004 for the first time. I knew he was undergoing surgery sometime. Is he still mentally in the game, any dates for surgery, expected post-surgery recovery ? What about Muffin Man Chan ? Tukka ? Felix ?

Managed to land a massive shin splint in my left leg schooling torques. I'm sure that there are tons of threads on shin splints, but while we're on this one already, anyone mind tacking some healing suggestions on the end of their own post? Any help is appreciated. I hate having to take time off. I'm addicted to footbag.

Thanks. Peace.

Well, I've recovered from ankle injury pretty well already. It still hurts sometimes, but most of the time I can shred without pain. Now I started to push my game up again since this year has been awful. First I was in army for half a year and then fucked up my ankle right after getting out of there.

btw. I hit montage rake yesterday. Yeah, I know it's kind of a add hunting move, but I decided to try it, 'cause it seemed to be as easy as montage.
But don't get me wrong. Montage is a pretty difficult move, it's just that rake version isn't so much harder.

I've had no luck with my body recently... nothing like a sprained ankle, but it's aggrivating!

Back seems to have a pulled muscle. It's very stiff when I get up. as I start becoming more physical, the pain eventually goes away. But those first few hours in the morning are a bitch...

Also, ingrown toenails... Lets say they hurt a "bit"... I've been trying to take care of them. One is just fine, the other is hurting like a bitch! What a pain in the foot..

Well, I just heard from Ricky tonight that he won't be having surgery, but he won't be playing anytime soon. To heal properly he said he won't be in the game much for 6 months to a year.

Although, he totally contridicts himself when a bag is loose in his presence, by trying stuff, tonight he was trying zig zag and spinning osis's, that kid can't put it down. But as for sessioning I think he is out for a while which is best in the end, he will come back 10 times greater I am sure and I can't wait.

Justin Dale also of Rain City Shred recently hurt himself as well, I don't know much yet but it was something with his back and he should be out anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months.

I sprained(?) my ankle as my first footbaginjury. I started a session out by trying that flying pdx whirl kick that Lon does. First try: BAM on the floor in pain. I was out for a month and a half or so--maybe longer. I have scar tissue still from that but my ankle is completely fine now as far as i can tell.

As for my hip flexor strain...I haven't played for about half a year now. Boy it sure doesn't seem that long. Maybe it's only been 5 months, but still... I'm not sure when this will heal. At this rate I'm not sure if I will be doing ps whirls by the Saskatoon jam even. S-U-C-K-Y.

Man my ankles are ass! Ive sprained my right one 3 times and my left twice, one of the times on the left was a severe sprain where i ripped ligaments and crap and was out for about 2 months, all the other ones put me out for a few weeks atleast.

I also pulled a few mustles in my ass and quad and coudlent toe stall for about a month at the start of the year when doing a flip off a hill and landing on my back (atleast i know i cant do flips now).

Anyway the result of all these injuries is that ive stopped (well im trying to) any double down/whirl/butterfly moves, which is average because thats like half of footbag gone.

The moves i was doing when i got my injuries where:

A flip off a hill
Double over down
Butterfly
Reverse whirl
Reverse whirl
Barfly

Last time I did my ankle was 2 weeks ago so im fine at the moment :D weeee

Actually 'tukka' with only one 'u' letter means 'hair'. 'Tuukka' with two 'u' letters is a finnish name.

Doctors have told me many things in my life.

"Climbing barefoot isn't always the best idea." ( removing glass from foot )

"Remember to look both ways before crossing the street." ( thanks for the tip! )

"This is going to sting." ( FACK!! )

"It looks like you have developed tendonitis." <- Oh, if only it were true!

Day 1 of Worlds this year, I caused a stress fracture in my shin. Doc told me it was tendonitis and sent me on my way. I followed up with x-rays and a bone scan, confirming the fracture. It's mostly healed, but I'm still out of commission for another week or so. I'm so excited to play again. I can taste it!!

Good luck to everyone in your recoveries!

I'm going on 2 1/2 weeks with a messed up knee. Taking the time away from footbag is one of the worst things I've ever experienced. I'm ADDicted and I feel like I'm going through withdrawal. It's pretty depressing. I know I'll be back in the game soon enough, but the thought of my knee being a recurring problem makes the time out even worse.

Ricky Moran was hurt some time right before worlds 04. Remember he wasn't kicking? Maybe some time in August, 04?
Ricky and I have been trying to keep it on the down low. Its definitly time for us to come back. We've been kicking this summer, we started slow (I worked on style stuff and ricky did only crazy unique move strings that were like 2-5 contacts at most.) and are almost back in rhythm. But we're both still limited on certain aspects of the game (ex. I can't paradox symp anything! at all!!) I would definitly say were not on the footbag injured list anymore. Were almost kicking regularly.
so now for the gossip....
Ricky has been getting really strong and healed up lately so what does he do but go and mess it up....He decided to go skating at a park and learn to ride the bowl (now ricky's not really skated.....ever). He starts getting comfortable and goes for some air and comes down in a mangled mess. There may have been mild cuncussion and he broke his wrist, (thank god his legs came out intact, completely, not a scratch) crazy luck this kid. So now he's not working for like a month cuz of the wrist and having tons of time to get his game back. Which wasn't effected by this injury.
Were resolving to just showing you what our respective games look like rather than telling you. So you'll have to come shred with us or we'll shred with you soon, but let me tell you our games have changed a lot!!!

I don't think enough could be said on this thread for how important stretching and ICING are. I wouldn't be half as far without applying those after every session as I've worked my way back.

After my injury I really didn't know if i'de ever be able to footbag again. I had to really come to terms with never being able to play again, which was really sad but has given me a completely new perspective on the game.
At this time my family kept telling me how thankful they were that I was quiting because footbag seemed to hurt me so. Although I only hurt myself doing excessive lifting at work. So It doesn't really make sense to me either, why people think this is such a dangerous sport.
Its funny in other sports you get gored and just heal up and come back in footbag it seams to be wear and tear with chronic type injuries. I mean how many people sprained there ankles multiple times thoughout this thread?
Which brings me to the question is there some advice that can be learned from all these ankle sprains?????
We'll thats all, sorry, it was kind of all just one stream of thought.
thanks for keeping us in mind you all rock
ja love

There you go.

I kicked with Justin and Ricky at Portland earlier this summer. They didn't do a lot due to their injuries, but Ricky threw down some wack moves (stubborn bastard). Justin filmed a lot if I believe.
