I like layed back classic rock, pink floyd, the grateful dead, Yes, emerson lake & palmer, jethro tull, steely dan, ect.

I like alot of other random stuff too.....

Well I usualy listen to punk, or ska. I also like older stuff too though like 70's rock. If I had to give a favorite band from each catagory it'd be

punk - Against Me!
ska - Catch 22
older - The Beatles

I looove abstract hip hop, progressive hip hop, instrumental hip hop, whatever you want to call it. Stuff like Blackalicious, Lyrics Born, Sage Francis, DJ Food, DJ Krush, DJ Shadow, The Herbaliser, Cut Chemist, etc... So many terrific bands and DJs that fall under that genre.

I also really like many forms of electronic music, namely DnB and house. DnB artists I like consist of people like High Contrast, London Elektricity, Calibre, Dieselboy, J Majik, EZ Rollers... As for house, whatever comes my way, usually. My favorite album is Foot Stompin' Beats by DJ JoeMatt and DJ Sol, though. GREAT tracks. Jazz is great, too, of course.

Aside from all of that, I'll listen to pretty much whatever comes my way, minus most punk, ska, really cheesy country (bluegrass is good stuff, though), and pop, but I don't know if the last one or two need to be mentioned. ;p

Forgot to add this when I started this thread.

Anything basically except for rap, all kinds of rap. Most of my stuff I listen to is basically metal or punk. That and when i'm kicking I listen to techno!

It depends what mood I'm in, but when I need something mellow I listen to Autechre. I used to listen to lots of triphop to mellow out. I also really like Enya and Loreena McKennit (a Manitoban medieval harpist -- she's SOOO good!!) I also really want some music by Usiq. Brett played me some -- he(?)'s soo good!!!
Oh, also Plod and Boards of Canada.

Sage Francis is so wierd, they are like hip hop punk, arn't they on Epitaph. Not saying they are bad mind you, I usualy don't like rap/hip-hop but they where pretty good.

Sage Francis is definitely hip hop. You get that more unique sound when you diverge and listen to other stuff besides silly gangster rap and the like. For example the Herbaliser does tons of tracks that sound like they could be instrumental pieces for movies, in a way, yet they're instrumental hip hop. They also do lots of lyrical pieces. There's a lot of diversity in hip hop.

april wine, cat stevens, ad dc, rolling stones, the band, lynyrd skynyrd, bad company, Bachman Turner overdrive, cream, grand funk railroad, jefferson airplane, don maclean, the eagles, the doors, foghat, the hollies, the surfari's, iron butterfly, pink floyd, zeplin, los lobos, zz top, norman greenbaum, queen, stan rogers, steppen wolf, UB40, the guess who, stevie nicks, fleet wood mac, and the who.

those are all bands i have on my current play list that i lisen to when i'm just chilling... or rockin out. it's versatile.

edit: forgot to mention...
electric light orchestra, mountain, ram jam, the cars, edgar winter group, boston, kansas, america, golden earing, cheap trick, rick james, james brown, deep purple, quiot riot, van halen, alice cooper, booker t and the mg's and probably lots more, but that's all i could remember off the top of my hear.

Punk (i hate this shit, its just constant yelling about world peace, if you want world peace, talk, dont scream non sense)
Country (they just complain about their women leaving, dog dying, and truck breaking)
Rap (talk to the beat about your hoes, drugs, escalades, and how you are so bad off, while making millions of dollars for doing all of the above.)

punk music isnt screamo- thats hardcore, by the way i love hardcore music and punk is ok too

I'm mostly into metal and hard rock. Dual lead guitars backed by a thunderous drum set usally hits the spot. My favorite band is Iron Maiden. Their late 70's to mid 80's stuff is the best.

I like a lot of other styles of music too, can be any genre as long as it's good. I have a hard time finding good country though.

Of the ones that Andrew Grant said, I agreed with mostly all of them, especially, The Stones,Pink Floyd, Led Zeplin, Queen, James Brown, Van Halen, Jefferson Airplane, The Eagles, The Doors Stan Rogers, Steppen Wolf, The Guess Who, The Who. The music from this genre would probably be my favorite genre of old music. The older music I like also includes some 80's peppy stuff because it gives me such a giddy high.
I don't know if it is classified as Hard Metal or Soft Metal. But I love Metallica and some system of a down. I classify it as "angry music":) because my tastes generally are much more emo.

Other than the above, U2 is awesome (agree with Ashley there), The Weakerthans, Dashboard Confessional, Deathcab for Cutie....much MUCH more emo.... Bob Marley always... Chopin, Gin Blossums, The Martinis, Matt Cross, The Stones, The Beatles (my life-long love), Alanis Morrisette, The Smashing Pumpkins, Jewel, Simon and Garfunkel (and Paul Simon on his own), Tuesday's Girl, The Goo Goo Dolls, Radiohead, The The, Oasis (What's the Story Morning Glory?, at least), Creedance Clearwater Revival ......Oh gosh....so many more...... I just can't think of them all of the top of my head
