My good friend Heather Thomas was talking about the old days of footbag tournaments, and she told me that sometimes they had more awards at the end than the standard ones, like 1st place Open Singles Freestyle, 1st place Open Doubles Net, etc..
Like they might have an award for Best All-Around Footbagger. To earn this award, you would have to compete in a lot of different events [singles and doubles freestyle, singles and doubles net, and golf, if they have it] and rank high in each of them.
Or they might have an award for Most Shreddingest. To earn this one, you would have to constantly be shredding in circles, never just watching, and never resting for more than a few minutes at a time.
There could be a lot more silly ones. Just use your imagination. But these two are my favorites. Especially 'Most Shreddingest'. This is the one that I would really try to earn, because you would have more fun trying to earn this one than 1st place Open Singles Freestyle. If you think about it, the real reason that you come to tournaments is to shred your ass off in the circles, so it only makes sense to make it into a semi-formal competition.
But 'Best All-Around Footbagger' makes a lot of sense too. Net and Freestyle are really two distinct, seperate sports, the only commonality being the footbag, which isn't even very similar. If the community doesn't want them to be divorced, then it makes sense to promote the idea of the same people playing in both disciplines.
What do you guys think about these two awards? What are some others that you might suggest?
Alternative Awards at Tournaments

At Tokyo Shredder Gathering II, we gave out awards for best Shredita, as well as `person who travelled the farthest to get to the tournament` (Okinawa to Tokyo!) which I thought was pretty cool.
I think prizes like these help encourage minority groups (shreditas, younger players, like preteens) to go to tourneys even if they dont compete, and also encourages people to attend tourneys even if they are far away.

Two suggestions that came out of our aussie jam this weekend:
1. Most Consistent
2. Sorest Shredder
First one is for people like Anthony Hagen who regardless of their level, consistently play to or exceed to this level throughout the tournament. They dont drop below it from fatigue or laziness or saving themselves for later.
Second one is for people like Jeremy O'Wheel who go fucking hard-out all weekend, then wonder why their legs hurt so much hahaha
This one is pretty subjective i guess, but it was clear that Jeremy had gone the hardest and was obviously in alot of pain
