DUCK THIS SH1T

Post by innersmile »

Hey,
I need help with ducking. I have simply no effing idea of how to do it. I've tried a couple of times but after kicking the bag into my face like 12 times in a row I ceased my practice and removed the dust from my eyes in bewildered frustration.

Any advice will be most welcome. I really want to nail these because I think it's one of the coolest concepts in freestyle.

Thanks in advance.

Practice alternating clippers 'till you're sick of it. The more you practice them,
the higher the set will become, and soon you will be able to duck them.
For a clean ducking set, the bag should circle your neck as closely as
possible. Have a look at Lon Smith, Nate Linscott or Ricky Moran videos.
They all duck like crazy.

Fucking crap, I am so determined to learn to duck.

Hey there, innersmile... it sounds like you're trying to duck a kick? I'm just garnering this from the part in which you said, "I've tried a couple of times but after kicking the bag into my face like 12 times in a row..." You should try it from a toe set. Set it off of your toe, and attempt to duck it. There's not really a way to explain ducking other than saying, just wait until the bag is moving up near your shoulders/neck and swing your head down under it. Preferably, you want the bag to pass over your neck, so move into it a bit. You most likely won't get it right away, as with anything in footbag, and even when you do get it, it's difficult to judge where the bag will be dropping on the other side. I don't mean to discourage though, just saying that you should practice it a lot, rather than giving up in bewildered frustration. :) Just start off tossing up a bag with your hand and doing the head motion, catching it again on the other side if you can. Then switch to a toe set if you like. Outside kicks also helped me to learn, but the set/kick has to be controlled. Hope this helps! Good luck bro, just keep at it.

Peace.

I start learning ducking/diving by setting from my inside stall for diving toe.
Then I change toe to ss clipper.

Yeah, thanks Ripwalk and Ebo for the tips. My alternating clippers need a whole lot of love but I am working on them.

I'll certainly do the duck from a set tonight and do a few from the toss. I usually stick with stuff until I get it but sometimes frustration gets the better of me and I stop whatever's causing the frustration.

Thanks for the help all; big up!

OK, I commenced my ducking journey, I did about a half hour of just schooling clippers yesterday, alternating and ss.

It felt neet that by the end I could set it chest high consistently. Tonight I will do more and more and more clippers, this seems to be working!

A few things that have helped me are:

The clipper drill--do one clipper on your left, one clipper on right, two clippers on left, two on right, three, four, etc. Keep it up till you can get up to five consistently.

Clipper height drill--practice same-side clippers, alternating a waist-high clipper and a head-high clipper.

Do clippers from left to right with a head-high set.

Once you have the above drills down, work on the ducking component. I started off doing alternating ducking clippers with a same-side clipper between each duck. Putting in a same-side clipper helped me to regain control before going into another ducking clipper. Once you get the hang of that, start doing consecutive ducking clippers.

When I do any ducking/diving moves I try to set the bag without upsetting my balance or getting my upper body into the movement--it feels as if only the setting leg is moving. In other words, I try to reduce the tendency to involve the upper body in the set. Finally, make sure the set and the duck are clearly separated--often people sink into the ducking/diving motion as they are setting. Oh yeah, try to set as straight up as possible.

As others have mentioned, Lon Smith is an excellent example of solid ducking/diving.

i just started ducking resently in the last week and i can do pixie ducking, ducking butterfly and diving been trying ducking clipers and what not and alot of other ducking diving stuff :) all the trick is i think is just the concempt of seting the bag straight up and thinking it will come straight down, hard part is learning how to set it like that all the time

no need to repet ^^^^ every one else dose the same things i do :)

the way i learned ducking was i started by trying to duck from toe to clipper. I found it was really hard so i held the bag in my hand and threw it up to where i wanted it to be to duck. So if i was starting from my right toe, i would hold it in my right hand, throw it up and practice the actual duck part. Once i felt comfortable with that, i started setting from toe. And i kept practicing setting from toe to clipper. Then i learned clipper set ducks later when i was pretty strong with toe set ducks.

I learned it fairly fast so i dunno if it was just me or the way i went about learning it. good luck.

I still kinda suck at ducking, I've hit plenty of ducking tricks, it's just not consistent eenough for me yet.

But how I practice is thus:

Set about chest to chin height, clipper set, toe set, frigidosis set, it doesn't matter. Just do that for a bit so that you know what a set that high feels like.

Once you've got that feeling down, try closing your eyes for a short period of time while the bag is peaking. It'll kinda simulate the "blindness" that ducking gives you. Try to increase the amount of blind-time. It's all about spotting the bag as it comes up. You'll find you'll start to intuitively *know* where the bag is, as opposed to seeing where it is in front of you.

Hopefully that helps, also I should practice what I preach and practice ducking.

the only move I'm able able to hit is a pixie diving clipper.
However I think that's a quite good start....
the problem is, ducking and diving has no priority for me at all, spinning does

I know this is belated

Post by Omen »

I know this response is belated but what got me started with ducks and dives were inside or toe > Duck/Dive > inside or toe. When the bag hits the corner of your eye start the ducking motion, thats about what works for me.

Also, good motion/space practice is to hold the bag next to your cheek, like dangle it, (I don't know, about 3 or less inches from your face) and move your head around it without touching it. Thats pretty much the motion you are doing when ducking/diving.

Practice those things and you should be doing mad crazy ducks/dives in no time.
Its all or nothing
