Some of you are familiar with Democracy Now!, an independant radio news program, mostly concerned with national and international affairs. It's really, really incredible what a difference an independent voice can make, compared with the corrupt filter of mass media.

Thanks for that Ellis - a very interesting read. I particularly liked the interview with Ralph Nadar, and I have to say that not only do I think the US voting system is pretty shit (In Australia we have a preference system, which means you rank all the parties and then the party with the bottom amount of primary votes is cut off and all the second votes for that party are distributed to the other parties - this continues until you have two remaining parties - by which time a winner is recorded - this system is good because then you aren't "wasting" votes if you vote for the person you think is the best candidate but not actually going to have a chance of winning) - I also am amazed at the amount of corruption - much more than I was aware of, and would not be possible in this country and am amazed that the US can call its self a democracy. Certainly the US is a lot less democratic than many countries around the world.

'Democracy Now!' is awesome!

The program is also televised on FSTV (Free Speech Television), Channel 9415 on Dish Network.
This is the BEST independent TV channel in the world. I HIGHLY recommend it.

I watch DN! everyday. It gives you the REAL news that corporate news media refuses to air. It actually discusses issues in depth rather than blurt out 20 second sound bites. They interview intellectuals like Noam Chomsky and Gore Vidal. The info I gain from this show inspires me to take action.

Um. My understanding from looking at the website is that it is named after the word "democracy" not the political party. I don't understand why you'd want to listen to a radio show talking about the US (and other countries) becoming a republic. The US has been a republic since the war of Independence. You just had a holiday celebrating it. Do you not learn that at school? I did and I don't live in the US...

I'm pretty confused as to why Bush is doing what he is doing. I am a republican, but I surely think he has made a mockery of our education system with the "Every child that can't read is left behind" thing. To the point teachers are cheating for students.

The republican ideologies I have, have nothing to do with the Bush agenda, and to a lesser degree the Kerry agenda (of what I have no idea

).

I'll take a look at that site and compare it to my standard reading material. I never thought CNN to be republican, but Fox News definately is.

Usually I take the polls on both and compare. The CNN poles usual, but not always, turn up liberal, while the Fox poles always turn up conservative.

I try to take them both with a grain of salt, and I stay clear of printed material. It is out of date before it hits the stands, making the internet (and my future as a Web Designer) more secure. Not that there aren't mistakes, but those can be fixed instantly, while a newspaper requires a retraction the next day. LAME! If they want to stay current they should print multiple papers during the course of the day, but what a waste of trees that would be. The Washington Post (or some other newspaper) printed that Kerry picked someone else besides Edwards. So not so reliable.

I've never understood why constituents would identify themselves as "republican" or "democrat" or other. IMO, those terms are exclusively for politicians. Certainly any citizen can support a party and even contribute money or vote in primaries, but to label oneself doesn't seem accurate. It's kind of like watching a football game on TV and saying, "We kicked their ass!" Plus, there is too much corruption and alterior motive in both major parties to vow absolute loyalty to either one.

For those who saw the O'reilly/Bush interview, it was funny that O'reilly made Bush look like a bleed-heart lefty on the illegal border-crossing question. No militarization of the border?!! You commie coward!
