I mean, I read some of the stuff I've posted over the years and it's almost like I'm reading a whole other person sometimes. Did I say that? I took this thread that seriously? Man, did I ever have a hard time grasping symposium!!
I've said the oddest things "in front of" 100's of people and it's a matter of public record for anyone to look up and read, anytime!!
I'd simply write this off as my ample insecurity rearing it's ugly head, but I hear/read people say much the same thing, frequently.
Now, some people I look back on and they've hardly ever said anything weird, controversial or seemingly out of character (though they are generally the ones that don't post very much). But I also know that I'm not alone in having completely contradicted myself or said stuff that I SO wished I had phrased another way.
It's been more than once now that I wish I'd never posted anything at all, ever. The misconceptions people can get about you based on such a thin slice of your soul is scary. The tendency for me to judge people based on that much I find even scarier. Preconceptions suck. But it is *weird* knowing someone (or thinking that you do) before you even meet them.
In many ways, posting on these forums has taught me a lot about myself and even more about footbag. In many ways it's also taken away from my enjoyment of the game. It's frustrating trying to talk about something that's hard enough to express in spoken words in an even vaguer context and when you mix in personal politics in trying times, well, it's even more so.
I feel misunderstood in this community because of this medium, but it is the same medium in which I learn so much and maintain many friendships through and I find it a hard balance, sometimes, between not posting at all, not even reading any of it, and wanting to talk to everyone on every thread.
So, in short, I think I just wanted to say "Horrah!" for everyone who's ever said anything stupid on the Internet. For those of us who struggle with trying to say what we mean (and *how* we mean it), this buds for you
