Ha, at my kicking circle at school, we thought it would be a fun idea to have a hackoff between us and the other hack circle.

Damon,

I'd like to hear how Richie and Jason feel about you issuing me a challenge on a public forum to come do battle with them in San Diego.

Richie, are you out there? Do you really want this guy speaking for your whole crew?

If I'm ever near San Diego I'll definately stop by, but not to challenge anyone. I'll come to play, chill and party with friends like you, Richie and Jason. Because that's how I see it. And I'd even be cool with your self serves--i wouldnt say shit. I wouldnt self serve, but you all can do what you like. All this psuedo-posturing battle talk is fucking boring. Let it go Damon. You are the only one in footbag issuing "challenges". Pretty competitive for someone who claims not to be interested in competition.

I doubt Jason Crook or Richie has any interest in "proving himself" in a battle with Jim Penske or Allan Hagget. I'm sure they'd rather just shred together. It sounds like you're the only one here with something to prove, and you're not selling it too well.

Im a little confused here...

About not using hands:

So if someone does a good run, and he gives it off to me and i seal his run with a kick, do i catch the bag and give him props? or do i give him props whilst im kicking? or what?

By the way Peter is the biggest Legend eva! :D

That is an affidavit I would definitely sign.

Also, I'd really appreciate it if people would stop dragging my name through the mud. I have made every attempt to not disrespect anyone and share my views in a constructive manner. Feel free to re-read my posts; it's not me who is provoking people.

EDIT: to address Uranos' question:
Uranos wrote: So if someone does a good run, and he gives it off to me and i seal his run with a kick, do i catch the bag and give him props? or do i give him props whilst im kicking? or what?
That's up to you. My own preference is to stall it, then lean forward and give him five. If he's too far, then air props are always cool. Also, I think catching it in your hand (I know, the irony) and giving a quick five then self-toss is pretty much acceptable everywhere. My personal favorite is Rippin's method. He would catch your pass on the back of his hand, then hold it out for you to give five (upwards!), sending the bag shooting straight up in place for him to kick-start his run. Rippin' is and always will be the man.

Controle the bag with some kicks, do a toe stall, show that you wanna give props and the shredder will ussualy come over and accept them. Sunil does this in Agressive grounds after a massive torch combo. I try to imitate shredders I respect. And not ones I think are a joke. I guess no more paradon rakes for me....
EDIT: I guess FLIP answered the question suficiently so I guess this post onlyt serves the purpose of flaming Damon on. Very worth it in my opinion

The way I see it, it all depends on what's happenin (like I read in some posts ;)):

If I'm kicking with the crew, we self serve. Yeah, it happens and who cares. Of course we don't go overboard - usually we pass the bag after the first (or second, depending on the circumstance) self serve and everyone is cool with that.

When we (or I, atleast) kick with other people, the only time I self serve is after I ask the person after me if I can try again. I only do this though if I'm attempting a trick or a link but no matter what the outcome is, I pass afterwards. There will be other times to try again. If I'm going for a run, drop the first trick, I'll pass it to the next person and let them decide whether or not I deserve a second attempt through a pass back.

It all just comes down to whether you are chilling with your homies or showing your shiznat to the new guys in town ;).

EDIT - I think Nate's way of sealing someone else's run is silly - you are free to do it however you want (hand catch, delay it, kick it, go with it into a run) so long it's acceptable with the people you are playing with. There isn't really a 'set' way of doing it in my honest opinion.

If Mr. Irish sealed a link of mine with 5 balls of juggling frenzy, I'd totally be down with that (so long as he starts shredding right away ;)).

Like I said above, I think it just comes down to who you are playing with. Everyone has their own opinions and preferences.

this topic is better than coronation street! and even harder to keep up with.

at this point in time me posting my opinion is totally useless, since this topic has gone to hell and back, but...

i don't really have a problem with some one hand catching a pass and droping to them selves. i personally wouldn't call this "self-serving". i try to kick all the passes thrown my way since kicks are just as big a part of footbag as 6 adds.
i often like to kick with my own bag because some of the folks in our group like sand bags, not 32's. i'll kick the pass of the sand bag, catch it drop my own and kick then start my run à la genzu. but if a pass is going over my head or something similar i'll likely hand catch it and toss it down to my self. prior to this topic being made i had never even thought about as a bad thing, but i can see how many could.

since this thread has basically lost its mind, and since this just occured to me, i have so much footbag shit on my computer that when i looked at ellis' avatar just now, i was like "damn blurry whirls back to back look sick... oh man, i have lons epishred from css6 right here!" and then i proceeded to watch it, with all 12 consecutive blurry whirls. just thought id share how disgustingly obsessed with this legball thing i really am.

oh yeah and my opinion which i duly stated on the second page of the thread (which if you're reading this means you should have read it) still stands, but has changed a bit. i think that people should base their judgement on when to obey etiquitte by the circles themselves, its not hard to figure out when its approperiate, just pay attention to whats going on around you.

I prefer no self serving. IMO it's more fun to play off of people's passes and looks better to the public. I find that excessive self-serving is also bad for endurance and promotes injury. Often once the bag has circled around and everyone has had their self-serves it has taken so long that my legs have cooled down and I have to self-serve/drop a couple times just to warm up again. The cycle repeats until I either get really frustrated or my legs cool down so much I can't really play anymore.

I never really considered it until recently, but how I start a run totally affects my style and choice of tricks. In the past I would always kick kick drop to toe and consequently almost start with a toe move. If I dropped the toe move I would again drop to toe > rpt. Recently, I have started going kick > kick > clipper and I think this is slowly helping to balance out my game.

I like the paper plate idea and I think I will bring it to my next jam and attempt to use it until someone realizes what I'm doing. Penske, I think you'll be at WV? It might be you that gets a toss from the paper plate of sarcasmic doom.  Actually I can't wait till Penske totally shreds circles around me until I crumble. Wow this was a pretty worthless post.

Oh I remembered what I wanted to say. Damon, it has only been a day. It is the internet, and not everyone has the chance to get on everyday. Give it a week or so before you send the anthrax to Penske's shred house. Sweet, kay?

Since for some strange reason Damon wouldnt respond publiclly to my last post, I'd like to share his private response as an adjunct to this discussion. I reserve the right to post this because, frankly, it contains some offensive shit and attacks on me and people I respect. Plus it will probably be entertaining for the rest of you.

Anyone who knows me (Damon doesnt) knows I'm a pretty chill guy who is welcoming to newcomers and has an overall good, non elitist attitude.
I've been in footbag longer than anyone on this forum. I was there when Damon showed up back in the mid nineties talking all kinds of shit and failed to back it up. I could rip this letter apart but I've got better things to do with my time, plus I have nothing to prove and feel no need to respond to garbage like this, although I particularly like the parts where Damon says he could kick my ass, and the quote "there are no egos in San Diego". Enjoy.

Peter, posting Damon's private message like that was uncalled for, I have omitted it from your post, please do not replace it.
If you want to bring this up with someone it should be Damon, not the entire modified comunity, that is totally unfair to Damon.

Also, that PM was totaly off the topic and it seems this topic is resolved, weather we kick the bag on reception or catch it is no longer being discussed so I am also locking this topic.

If anybody disagrees with this action please PM me or another moderator about it and it may be re-opened.

Thank you.
