I'm pretty sure that this very same question and answer (or similar, since we haven't seen the word for word question and answer) came up a few years ago. I definitely have vague memories of a big US paper having "hackysack" as answer to a crossword. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Its a game and not a sport unless you are competing. And I usually call it hacking.

Um, do you have any kind of an argument to back that up?

I say hacking a lot too cause "shredding" doesn't always suit. Kicking is another handy one.

Sport is, by definition, competitive.

So all sports are games when not in a strictly competitive environment?

Sport- an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature.

athletic- yes, most who play foobag are athletic and it really helps (a lot) as with most other SPORTS.

skill- obviously skill is required, we practice hours every day!

physical prowess (exceptional ability)- Yes, much physical ability is required, anyone who has played for more than a couple months would know that.

often competative- yes! we do have competitions and it CAN be scored!

WELL, THAT WRAPS IT UP! IT'S A SPORT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're all wrong especially that annoying Australian know it all- Jeremy.
Listen up fatcat and Allow me to explain:
There is a difference between a sport, and a competition.
Footbag is a competition- not a sport.
A competition is something where the results depend on the opinion of a judge. Like figure skating, diving and footbag. It is competitive but there is a subjective aspect to it as well.
A sport requires a clear cut winner- who has the highest score when the time runs out, who is the fastest, who had the best time and so on.

I could be wrong. Who knows. HACKY SACK!!!

I didn't say you had to cite sources.

I said you totally just made that up. What you said doesn't make any sense. "It's a competition but not a sport." Come on. Seriously.

In Ben's definition (that he obviously looked up) it says a sport is competitive. Meow.
