If your not at an IFPA sanctioned events you dont get points simple as that. If you are and you place well then you get points.

if theres something ive learned...

nothing is ever good enough for everyone to like, you kinda have to go with the majority rule.

Too bad something similar hasn't been done for freestyle, it seems like a great system.

The fact that a player is poor and unable to travel does not in any way flaw a system that bases world ranking points on points gained at IFPA events. If players don't make it to competitive events, they cannot be allowed to receive a world ranking. They have not formally measured their skill against anyone else's in a tourmanent atmosphere, which is what a world ranking purports to do.

I know its awkward, but unfortunately there is almost no way to determine the skills of players who are not in contest, or at national events. on the other hand you could solve this through a voting system... which at the end of the day is similar to a ranking system

There always will be a question about how relative will be the system. Players who not attend to big amount of events will have less points than average player that goes often to events - it will always be like this.

Ranking system has two main goals:
- be a help for judges who have to rank players before event (primary goal)
- be a knowledge for players about their status and a next thing that make them attend to as many events as possible and prepare for them

Polish ranking is defenately a tool for judges and it's coll to stay like this. Also IFPA ranking would be a ranking of association under which sing players compete and you should treat it like this. I think you never can name it as a world footbag freestyle ranking system... do you know what I mean...?

I want to comment this post, since it is absolutely not the truth and might misguide some people!

First off; There ARE NO POINTS which the IFPA is giving Freestyle players; that is the reason why this thread has been written. Competitions are providing Rankings, thats it! If your event is not Sanctioned by the IFPA, you can still put your results online!

Thx for your support!

Well the system must, and will be relativ´. It takes into account how many events you play; how good your competitors are; how many competitors you have (how important the event is).

Ranking is not the primary goal; but it is a goal with a high priority. Players don't have to try to attend as many events as possible, since as mentioned the system will be relative, and not absolute.

As already mentioned; if you are interested in working on this project, please email me; but if there are any questions or suggestions I will gladly take them in to account and into the concept.

I think he was posting in reference to the last post on the last page:

I must admit I haven't had a chance to go through this thread closely so if I'm repeating someone else, sorry.

My understanding is that part of the new IFPA Regional Commitees is to set up Regional Champs which will eventually, once the whole system is up and running, allow for a points system to be put into place. The rankings will be used to seed events.

Info on the Regional Commitees can be found here: http://www.footbag.org/groups/list/111

At the moment there is so much that needs to be done in freestyle footbag admin and so few people to do it that its extremely important that one thing gets done at a time, and that thing is done properly. I think there are few things in line before a ranking system.

Also re: a voting system, I think there are a lot of problems with such a system to the point that a ranking is far more feasible. For players who are isolated and can't attend comps - how can people vote on that individual's level if they haven't seen them - videos are not enough to go on if rankings are then going to be used to seed events. Puting to together a great video with big moves and combos is one thing, being able to hit them in circles and in comp is another. The only people who would be able to make an informed decision are those that have seen the individual in question in person and subsequently we're right back where we started with the points ranking.
