I think usually when people see Op Butterflies they call them Infinites. Also so when you see Sick3 results, Op Butterflies are Infinites.

It would be funny if in footbag a trick that's been performed before another affects to the others name...

As far as I know, infinity wasn't supposed to be a trick name, but just like Brad said a name for clipper set op butterflies done repeatedly. I think the reason people get confused with this is because we don't give names to combos that often or at all anymore.

So basically someone (it would be cool to know who) mentioned that repeating clipper set op butterflies it kind of makes the infinity sign and started calling it infinity. Over the time people have started using infinity to describe a clipper set op butterfly which doesn't make sense (it doesn't make the infinity sign by itself + that trick already has a name - butterfly). I mean, why rename a common trick like butterfly? This would be like starting to call paradon a 'fiesta' because fiesta is known as 'paradon > barrage'. Silly I know. So is this calling butterfly an infinity.

Bottomline: Technical use of infinity is really limited. That is why we don't name so many combos. Only real use for the term infinity I can find is when you asked your buddy 'what's your infinity record?', but even that you could just say 'how many butterflies have you hit repeatedly' or something.

Of course I wasn't there when this term was invented and can't really say what happened so take this as my opinion only. I do think it is the right one though :) (as far as there is one..)

I hadn't really put too much thought into the sine wave thing when I said it, and upon further reviewing it really does appear to be fitting.

If you consider the catch and release points of the bag as the start and end of a full sine wave it makes sense that the parabola created upon release of the bag would make the first arch of the wave, then the catch/cushion/acceleration and subsequent release of the bag would make the inverted arch thus completing a full wave.

neat!

and then of course the same shape, but reversed, is created with the next op clipper set butterfly.

Thus, TWO clipper set butterflies DO logically follow the infinity path.

meh, who gives a fuck.

next time I hit a single clip set butterfly I'm still going to say it was an infinity because that takes way less time, and sounds way less dorkass, than saying opposite side clipper set butterfly.

yay footbag!

Far Butterfly and Infinity both have the same number of syllables. Ehhh.. I'ma still call it Infinity because it sounds cooler.

Yeah let's call toe stall 'kryptonite' because it sounds cooler or even better, let's start calling it with a term that some people use for something else. That's even cooler. Man we are cool.

ps. Butterfly isn't that hard to say. I have never in real life said 'clip set op butterfly' - just butterfly. This just isn't a problem for me and can't see how people are having problems with this. It doesn't matter where you set it, it's still a butterfly. The only situation it would matter is if you are describing a combo and even then you will know where it was set, because of the move before it. But of course you can call it whatever you want.

but there's nothing cool about doing a toe stall. Why give a cool name to an uncool move? That's just silly :P

barfly does not equal paradon. I'm now officially done with this thread.

I thought we were talking about butterfly and not barfly. I'm officially done with this thread as well :-)
