I think California stole Brad Nelson from you Matt.

John, that Orangutang look soooo effortless and easy for you! I would have never guessed that it's a new trick!

I also laughed my ass off at the repetition of Brad's exclamation. HILARIOUS!

Bob is in this weekend, he got a new car so hopefully he'll be able to come in more often. Tonight we all went down to..downtown. We started kicking at the usual spot until we were warmed up and a bit tired of the crappy lighting. So we walked over to some car lot that had uber bright lights. I had a pretty good session, I can feel my left shin aching a little already. Right now I can feel every heart beat through my shin, just slightly.

I hit about 6 + new moves tonight. Bob taught me wauxpin, which RULE !! I hit those both sides, also fairy wauxpin, almost hit ducking walkspin. Also hit reverse eggbeaters both sides. Something cool I hit out of walkspin was fairy butter, luckily it only took one try. I hit that cool Jordan M. move, symposium quantum legover, I guess you could look at it as a alpha dlo. I hit paradox blender, I'm still working on blender both sides. It's growing pretty well on one side, I have to work a bit more on my flip side. I also hit pigbeater, I haven't hit that move ohhh..i'd say a year. Since my eggbeaters are 10x better, I just hit it without much problem. I think next session, I'll go for atomic eggbeater, and more reverse eggbeaters, with some wauxpins here in there...oh i love that move.

Tomorrow is the Mosher vs HooD video battle, the tension is high. I'm pretty pumped to see what mosher has got, he's damned creative...and weird.

I love the jubi-czech.avi video. It's such a classic. It's of Vasek and Ales from early 2002, I think. I remember watching it for the first time and thinking, "Monsters!" because of the intense music...and because they were really monsters then. If you don't have it, you should find it. I believe it's of German origin.

Since John wanted to make a video, I never really stopped playing like I wanted to. I did like 3 half-assed sessions where I played pretty horribly and for not very long. I somehow managed to pull of a few new tricks though like flip stepping bubbabeater and blurry grifter. Then I played when Bob was in and that was fun. I like playing downtown on occasion. I did 168 infinities and realized how bad my endurance is. Hearing mulitple people nearing or beating a hundred ripwalks is so much harder than that. Doing that many infinites is like doing 30 ripwalks. So much more energy is used.

It's not really skooling though. If I'm going to be playing I want to skool because you don't improve your game much just by playing. I usually just play though because it's more fun. Random thought, I'm glad I learned how to not shuffle when I spin. I used to do lots of weird things learning tricks. Anyone else used to have gorilla arms when doing osis?

I need to talk to Sam. I forgot to call him this evening.

Quick note on tonight's solo session. I decided to go to downtown, found a somewhat slanted sidewalk with some nice light. I played for about 45 minutes, and I can say that was one of my worst sessions ever. My recovering knee had an odd twinge to it, so the pain was slowled me down fast,, and I finished the session by attempting a torque and completely swatting my knee with my watch, I gimped off and was a bit sour about that session. But, it was a good one, because I got out there and played.

I kicked tonight at the clinic with Brad, about a 2 + hour session, and damn I'm tired. Before that I lifted for about 30 minutes also. Tonight was a good and bad night, my strings being the bad part. I really need to start concentrating on string length, because in my opinion, that is one of the most important things. I love how people like Lon and Nate just string consistantly and long, also their strings don't have to be huge, but they still CAN ! Yet they just flow and keep going, I really want to eventually to be able to just string loooong strings. The hard part is my game has never been pointed that way, so I guess I'll just have to keep trying.

Tonight I hit some flip fairy ducking moves for the first time, pumped off of that ! I hit flip fairy ducking butter & flip ducking fear. I also threw in some flip pixie ducking without much problem, so those sets are going in the right direction for sure. I was also messing around with symp. quantum set tonight, they were getting a little more consistant after a while. I managed to hit alpha toe blur, and alpha toe rip walk, footed symp quantum drifter.

After I was dead tired, brad was just chilling out and he was calling out combos, and for me being that tired, I believe I only hit one out of 10 combos he called out. Well, I actually changed it a little - toe wauxpin > fairy SS mirage > paradon , verrrry cool combo, and I was suprised I pulled it off because I was lacking energy. Other than that, it was a long and fun session, my surgery knee wasn't giving me any shit like my last solo session, but I stil get light shin splints on that leg. They're better than they were a couple months ago, the bone & muscle right there are probably still adjusting to me demanding so much out of my left leg. Before my surgery, I just couldn't do a handful of moves because hurt my knee so much, and my leg was just plane weak. Now it's gaining strength, I'm hitting new moves, and I just pay with some shin splints.

I found my Lonn bag so I'm happy. Those are way too expensive/choice to lose.

We're too tired to shred tonight so we're grilling food.

I'll update on the shred also, after tonight's session. I'm feelin this will be a good session because the chi of another Laver is strong.

Ok, so yesterday was a fun session, and so was Friday's. I filmed some of Sat. session so I can play around and edit it. I did the oddest thing on Sat. We all know I don't spin well, and my torques aren't good, but they're getting better. I did the 'Hey brad, check this'. I hit Mobius my first try, for the first time, and then I proceeded by jumping up and down like a little kid. Some other things...hmm...I believe I can hit spanish fly(ducking barfly). I also hit flip down double down, which definitely means my flipside is getting more controlled and faster. I finally hit smear>fear>atomsmasher repeat, and then a bit more.

My current goals are barfly > barfly, i'd like to do more, but I still haven't hit that yet, so I guess the reasonable goal would be back to back. I'm still working on blenders, and everything that is weak on my flipside. Maybe I'll work on hitting smudge > fudge > atomic illusion repeat, that'd be hard, but if my sets are good , it'd be possible. OH yeah, the shoes, here is a pic of the shoes. AND, I link to my newest video that I made for the video battle, actually, I'll link you to the battle thread, comments (positive and negative) are appreciated. The only way to become better at editing and everything else in life, is if you notice your mistakes along the way.

Video Battle

I'm going to put a second and maybe third layer of black around the soles so they look like a pure solid black, not scribbledness.

Awesome new Lavers, Hood. Is that blue sharpie?

Hey Brad, I wanted to ask you about crosstraining. Do you think it really helps your game and helps you play longer? I've noticed you've played for a really long time, and are still really good, and relatively injury-less, I assume? Do you think it's helped you like maintain your body and not get completely fucked from footbag?
Also, what kind of crosstraining do you do? I've been cycling a lot on the machines at the gym (yesterday I did almost 25 miles in an hour [on the hill setting, on level 10]). I've also been lifting weights with my legs, like hamstring curls, and the leg raise, I think it's called (where you lift the bar with your feet--it works out your quads a lot). I also get in a little bit of upperbody workouts, like curls, tricep curls, crunches, chest presses, etc.

Actually, it's a black sharpie. I just put 2 more coats with 2 types of black sharpies. So now it's a solid black around the sole. As for cross-training, for myself I pretty much leave footbag as the main exercise for my legs. I also like to bike when I can. I've been lifting though for about 1 year for my mid - upper body.

Hey John, thanks for putting out that new Brad Nelson joint in the Video Battles. Brad has one of my favorite styles, so when I played outside yesterday after work, I tried to play like Brad. I kept dropping on pdx tap though... probably cause I never do that trick. But yeah, I was definitely inspired. More Brad footage please!

It's funny you ask for it. Because guess what I have ??? Yeah , some Brad footage, oh , and some me in there too. Just made it today, in one editing session so I'm throwing it in the blogger. It is was filmed Saturday on a tripod, that and because of bandwidth issues, so Brad, if you want to put it on video section, just upload it to footbag.org. Oh, I guess today is an eventful day. Video done, and the WV Jam is going to be on August 20 - 21. I have the venue currently set, and I am in the process of confirming the host hotel, which will be about a 1 minute walk from the shred spot. If you go to http://www.hoodshouse.com , midway down the page is stuff I'm working on, the WV Jam webpage is also there. Not complete, but it'll give you an idea of what is to come.

Hey Stephen, I haven't noticed any difference in my game from cross-training, possibly maybe a decrease in my skills. I've mostly been doing weight training instead of working on my endurance. I've put on around 10 pounds so I know that isn't helping  I'm exercising to increase my frame at the moment. To your other question, keeping fit will definitely help prevent injuries. I don't believe footbag by itself is very good for your body.

Sweet video, John. You tore up smear>fear>atom rpt.

I believe that my favorite Lonn bag is gone. I'm in Charlotte now, I woke up yesterday and it wasn't where I believe I put it. I believe that the dog either ate it , or hid it. Either way, it's gone and I'm pretty sad because that bag was hitting it's prime shred state and now it could be in the belly of a dog. And Lonn has retired from stitching, she was becoming so good at her stitching techniques. Very sad we have lost that East Coast stitcher, my favorite stitcher...

Dude, that sucks! Get a new abshire, they rock.

Here's what I wrote about LA and sent to John. I write these for his site, but they usually end up here anyways so here it is:

Skipping all the events I had to go through to get to LA, when I arrived (2pm), I got a call from Reile saying that he was in the airport and that Bryan was going to pick us up. After meeting up with him, we got a call from Bryan saying that he was in the lower level waiting for us. We were greeted by a smiley Lon waving at us and tell us to hurry up. I said hello to Luis, Bryan and Lon and we left for the session. The first thing I noticed out in LA were all the palm trees and the high gas prices. Bryan showed us a few things that were on the way. Gave us the good tour.

We parked at our destnation a few blocks from Venice beach. When we were walking away, we heard a rustling in a palm tree near the car. Now, this was one of the tall palm trees that was about 3 stories high. A squirrel fell from the top and made a huge thud when it hit the street. It seemed okay though and ran away. I'd never seen anything like that and just became part of the phrase I got from Bryan that I decided to describe everything I saw with, "Only in LA." We got to the spot and it wasn't 5 minutes before Chad showed up. We could see him coming from a mile away. So we had a 4 hour session consisting of Bryan Fournier, Chad D, Lon, Luis Monhollon, Eric Reile and myself. Pretty sweet, huh? I played pretty hard and well that day. It made me sore for the rest of the weekend. I can't remember what was hit, but it was so fun. Bryan has the easiest looking symp flurries. You can't hear his footsteps when he does them. My Lonn Irish bag is famous now. I haven't met anyone that didn't like it.

After everyone was tired, hungry and the sun was set, we headed back to Sam's house. On the way we got some Thai food. It was really good. My chicken was on fire when it came out. The timing was so perfect. The waiter came out with my chicken and as soon as he handed it to me, the fire went out. We couldn't finish all the food and gave the leftovers to Justin Council when we got to Sam's. Aaron, Richie, Chris, Emily, Sam and Justin were there. We hung out for a while and then Bryan, Aaron, Chris, Emily and I left to kick for a few minutes and head to Pinkus's house. It was a long, fun night.

We woke up the next morning and headed for Sam's. The shoot was awesome. Mike Hansen, Ted, Amelia, Jeremy M, and Loren all came that day. The day seemed to go on and on...and on, but it was worth it. I got sunburnt just on my calves and hands because I forgot to put lotion on them. The sun is so vicious there! Anyways, the spot was really bizarre. I don't even know how to describe it. The shoot ended and we went out to get pizza. Btw, Lon played all day long for about 8 hours. Maybe I'll check out some of those supplements he takes because I can't keep up with him at all. My body was already about to give out just from the session the day before. I gave Loren a spiritual book that a monk at the airport gave me for a small donation. I wasn't going to read it so I'm glad that he was so excited to have it. The night was spent at Sam's hanging out and having a few drinks. It had such a good atmosphere. Everyone that was there made it so chill and laid back...unless you were in the built in 4-square court in Sam's house. I never jumped in, but they seemed like they had a lot of fun. Thanks to Bryan and Mike for getting drinks. The Pinkus house crew left to go to sleep. The sleeping part didn't happen though.

The next morning we finished my scenes at another site. Emily, Reile and Loren went for a BRC run. That was interesting breakfast. At the site, Luis made the curve record. I played a lot of kicky sack with the happy bag. I didn't feel like freestyling much that day. We went back to Sam's to meet up with Jeremy, Amelia, Chad and everyone else that wasn't at that site. Dat and Dan had showed up. Sam, Chad, Lon, Bryan, Chris, and Reile had to go finish some stuff at another site that took a really long time to get to so I didn't go and said goodbye to all of them. I had some other friends to meet up with in LA so while I was waiting I watched the people that hung around play. When I got the call from my friends, Dat and Dan were kind enough to take me to a metro. I said goodbyes and headed out to find them at Universal Studios. Jeff, Jordan, Justin and I ate at the Hard Rock cafe and I got to see a bit of Hollywood. After that I went home. What a great weekend! I only got 9 hours of sleep total in three nights, but every hour I was awake was fun. Saving a few hundred dollars to fly out to places is so worth it. It makes some other things harder, but you get so much out of it. Easily one of the best events I've been to and it wasn't even posted on footbag.org! There so much more to write about, but I think that stresses everyone's patience enough.

**I'm not sure if these events happened in order. The weekend is blurred in my head

Edit: I just played for a few minutes and hit flip fairy paradon :D

John and I have played two days in a row. We were pretty lethargic tonight because we're apparently bred too weak to play two nights in a row over here. I've just been trying to flow and do long strings. It's been working somewhat. I can do over 20 easy when I want to. My goal is 50 though and I always drop shy of it. I don't understand why I always screw up right when I get close. Lon was surprised I couldn't do a 100 contact string...if he only know how much I really suck  I did hit some new tricks though.

Flip fairy paradon
Flip fairy whirl
Fairy drifter bsos
Flip pixie dod first try 10 contacts into a string

Yeah, that's it all of them. John did some good things. I don't remember what they were, but I remember giving him props on serveral occasions. Damn my memory.

I've had a lot of fun playing these last two days. Some events really pump me up for footbag and some burn me out. The last 5 or so before CSS that I went to really burnt me out, but this last trip to LA made me want to play so much. My body feels like shit right now, but I still want to kick.
