this quote is fantastic!!

Outsider wrote:"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregareded yellow sun.
Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-two million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.
This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.
And so the problem remained; lots of the people were mean, and most of them were miserable, even the ones with digital watches."
"The Hitchihiker's Guide to the Galaxy"? Quite possibly one of the best books over written. Good Call Johnny!

As for the whole French v. US thing. I would like to say that Jammer's initial comments were funny as hell, but also extremely skewed, totally unprovoked and uncalled for. (though I'm all for equal opportunity fun making which is why I laughed when I read it.)
Have we helped the french and gotten shit on in return... yes... whose fault is that? Ours! The US rushes to any global event under the guise of freedom and idealism when in reality it's capitalism and imperialism. There was no good enough reason for the US to have gotten involved in Vietnam and no good reason at all to take on Iraq without stronger international support. We have it all backwords... Because the US military is so big and scary, we should be the last to join war efforts instead of the first.

And let me be totally clear about something... FUCK BUSH. He's a fucking retard who got elected on his daddy's name. If my name were "George Bush" I could get elected even if I were no relation. He's done absolutely NOTHING to help this country or any other country. Basically he bought the 2000 election for $300+ per vote. That's what he did with the economy surplus we had under the Clinton Administration. Now that the economy sucks and we could use that Surplus it's all spent. Instead we are cutting and cutting to afford a super-sized defense budget for an as yet unjustified war.

Tell me... who's winning the so called "War on Terror". Thousands more Iraqi's have died since Saddam was ousted not to mention 100's of troops. Spain has been bombed, the US is updated almost daily with these bogus terror alert level warnings, the innocent civilians of Afghanistan are totally in the pooper, Israel is in a constant state of death and destruction, our own military is under investigation for abuse crimes, the US economy is for shit, the World economy is for shit...etc....

Anyone notice there are still no WMD's and everyone seems to have forgotten about them and the fact that Bush has perjured himself by insisting that they were in Iraq. It's all been forgotten because a few radical groups in Iraq decided to start killing people.

Back to the money thing...since that's obviously what this thread is all about.
I once pulled up to a "Good Times" take out window and I asked the girl at the window "Don't you find it strange that I'm going to give you a couple flimsy pieces of paper and some hunks of metal and you're going to give me a bag of food?". She just looked at me like I was nuts  . So much for your intelligent American.

By the way... much of this topic should have been moderated and moved or deleted except that at least I as a moderator don't have any powers in this section of the Forum.

If we didn't have a monetary unit of measure Capitalism would spread like wildfire. Money keeps things in perspective so this won't happen.

Imagine for a second (using your brains people) that you are Joe Millionaire (not the TV guy) and you want to trade your buttons for some food at the local general store. Being the slickster business person that you are, you convince the store owner that your buttons are the best in the world and that even a percentage of the stores profits wouldn't equal the raw value of your buttons.

People are stupid (not all, but a lot) and would fall for something that stupid. People would become salesmen in the hope of acheiving the things in life they need or want.

It would suck trust me on that one. The educational system would now be worthless, as would the need to work. People would be more apt to steal than work.

The result - anarachy of the highest form. AKA cavemanism 8O We would regress.
Go out and shred already.

NO IT DIDN'T. The history book say it did. But the people who set up the government in 1776 were rich arrogant dickheads who didn't wana pay their taxes and could care less about "the country".

In reply to the original post, money is SUPOOSED to be based on the amount of gold or other valuable resorses available. Its like saying I have x amount of gold in the grownd and its staying there, heres a piece of paper to say its yours.
