Sepak Takraw

Post by Commodore »

For me it's seems that sepak takraw is alot cooler than footbag net and the players are stronger because they jump alot higher in alot wierder positions. It also seems that more people are playing it, more people are serious about it and it's easier. And it's wierd that they're using tennis shoes.

Ok, hang on for a sec.

I dont go running my mouth too much saying figure skating is kooler than freestyle...

Takraw and Net are completely different games. Sure, they share court and net size, but Takraw is much easier to play at the beginner level and much harder at the high level. Would you stick to consecutives cause they are easier than freestyling? Probably not. But not even top level net players can hold their own against National Team PLayers from THailand or Malaysia (Maybe Verdy can now in Singles, but there is no Takraw Singles).

The shoes in question, though, at the upper end of Takraw are usually stan smiths or some variant thereof. ALot of top players use a shoe called "Warriors", but they are only sold in South East Asia.

The reason more people play is:
1 - ALot of immigrants from SE Asia came to North America and brought it with them
2 - Takraw in its current form has been around since the 40's or 50's, and so has 25-30 years of lead on Net.

Hope this clarifies the matter...

Actually PT hold his own and more in the new two man takraw events.

If you haven't seen net in a few years, check out the choas club. They are bringing the roll spikes to net. It's harder because the bag moves faster, is smaller, and is harder to spot.

Two man takraw is the ultimate net event.

He only holds in Doubles cause he is too afraid to play singles... ;)

PT is good at takraw doubles, but if you put him in the Top division at the Kings Cup or World Cup, he is out of his league, even playing with Tan. (The Takraw guy out there in Oakland)

But, i agree, watch Chaos Play (except against Germany  ) or watch Manu and now Verdy (who I hear is back). Those guys rock at the net.
