Cutting up wings - pros and cons.

Hey Modified,
I just got a new pair of lavers and I am faced with the decision... should I cut the wings up now, or leave them down.

They look flippin mint, the most stylie shoe in existance, I kinda feel like relacing and moding them will take away from their image a bit...

Anyway, what I really want to know is:

If I don't cut the wings up just yet, what mayhem am I causing my shoes?

An example is, my friend didn't cut his wings up for a while and because of this his wings bend in wierdly and not out like they should... this makes me think I should attack with the knife now and not wait round...

What do you think?

I don't think it matters much. i had a pair of lavers, and i didn't cut the wings off for quit sometime. i bought a new pair a few months back, and cut the wings off shortly after i got them. I doesn't so much matter when you do it, just the brokeninness of your lavers.

I'm finding it impossible to play in the new lavers compared to my old reds, the new ones are so ridged! I plan to lace them well so that the wings bend up how I like 'em and wear them round for a few weeks to break them in. I would like to use them as dress shoes as long as possible though, so only clean bags will be touching these babies!

i have a problem with the wings on my lavers...for some reason i cant get them to stay up...does anyone know how i can solve this problem without cutting off the side walls entirely? Any different ways of lacing or anything...its really starting to piss me off and i dont wanna cut off the walls entirely cuz they help sometimes....any suggestions??

Try different lacing ideas, think about where the forces need to be applied to cause the walls to be pulled back.
Experimenting is the important part.

Nic if you don't want to have wings just do it to your old pair and not your new ones.
I use to cut them off 'cause I would find that the wings would fuck with my pixie set. But I don't anymore so I have kept my wings on my newer pair.

Why do you feel the need to get rid of them anyway?

ive tried lacing it differently but nothing seems to work...does anyone have any lacing methods that work better than the one on worldfootbag? my other lavers are less broken in and dont have the problem and they are laced the way on worldfootbag...is it just because my other lavers are broken in?

I've found this is the best way to lace-up lavers... I stole it from Popinasmint (This is atually a picture of his shoe)

can u post instructions on how to lace it that way...i like it alot, but it seems confusing cuz the lace is going through the same hole more than once.

I don't have a camera, but I'll try to explain it, and with the picture right there, maybe you'll be able to figure it out

out =going from in to out on through the lace holes
in =same but out to in
same=lace stays on same side of shoe
op =lace crosses shoe

•start at the 4th lace loop, go out
•go same in the 5th
•go op out the 5th
•go same in the 6th
•op out the 6th
•same in the 3rd
•same out the 2nd
•same in the 7th
•op out the 7th
Then from there you can pretty much lace it however you want, all you have to do is tie it.

Well that's the best I can do, hope that helped

i've heard that cutting off the side walls helps with technique (getting precise toe stalls). is this true?

Uhm, people at least say that your pixies will be better if you can do them with side walls (I haven't cut 'em). To normal toe stalls they might be worse, because then you don't have to stall so much to get the...well, stall.

Sweet. I used to lace up my shoes that way, until I found out that doing so would fuck up my laces (ripped a section for some reason). I guess I laced them a bit too much?

I blame weather and climate, and tripping a bit too much on the outer lacing.

i finally decided to do the tubing mod off Hood's House. i think it's a good medium between walls and no walls.
