String Introduction

Post by slapdash21 »

What do you do when you start a string? Esp. in different situations, like when I'm soloing, I usually just drop it right in to a stall, but when im circling, i do inside kicks like 4 times. i want to do those cool little flippy toe kicks, but mine arent reliable enough, even though i can usually do a few of them.

which do you think is coolest/best?

Any variety of toe, inside, and outside kicks -> toe stall (maybe plural) -> run

I'll usually do inside kicks (3 or 4) to toe or clipper. Sometimes I'll go straight into butterfly.

I think these would be cool:

inside kick > mullet > run
or maybe like
outside kick > vortex > run

Professionals practice until they can't get it wrong.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

Ben, I believe you ment "Aye" :D

I can't kick back and forth well :( so I just do toes (as in the stall)

I think kicking back and forth is the best/coolest way

 i spent the last 30 minutes of my session last night drilling flippy toe kicks. also, on occasion, i use those REALLY low bouncy toe stalls to start a string...like, 10 of them, then do one high set of the toe to a clip or something.
also i sometimes drop it directly into a trick, like a butterfly or pickup
or i do that from an inside kick...like inside kick>dex>stall

Every once in awhile I start a run with with a legover set from my hand

Toe flippys are cool too

I do inside kicks>toe stalls usually

I like flippy toes>a scoopy toe stall>cool run

(I schooled flippy toe stalls for like, twenty minutes today. I got 2 in a row!)

I wish I could do those flippy toe kicks

I sometimes drop it into a legover, but usually only when i'm on my own. I also always start on my strong toe, which is probably a bad thing.

Flippy toe kicks are so tough -- I was totally inspired to start doing them because Lon makes them look awesome!

When I play with Hackrifice I like to play right out of the pass. When I'm alone I usually do too unless I'm still warming up.

I'm a fan of Jeremy Mirken's toe roll>opp inside kick>rpt 'til sweet string.

Personally, I kick when I'm warming up then I start my run. Normally though, because my kicks can be very uncontrolled, I kick into a couple toe delays. After I'm done warming up I just drop it and go.

The comment about starting on your strongside all the time is interesting...I wonder what the general consensus on that.

You actually had some pretty cool ones too, Sam. I miss being in a two person circle with you and passing you the bag, only to see you do three or four toe stalls (Tounge pressed firmly into your cheek of course) and then doing a 4 adder with the same goofy ass expression. I hear you're doing five adders now though, but I hope you're still keeping the goofey ass expression.

it totally changes. Sometimes I'll go random kicks or specific kicks then toe stalls then a run - other times I'll just go stalls and other times I'll just start with no stalls or kicks. Don't really notice much difference - just sometimes I'm thinking and need to take a little longer to work out what I want to do and how I should do it - other times it's all in my head and I'm ready to go.

I'll deal you a free blow to the head. :)

Start shredding again and I'll make as many goofy ass expressions as you want.

I really like the flippy toe kicks too... can't do'em though!

I do inside kicks>a few toe stalls>{legover>pickup} a bunch of times>run

I like inside kicks> a ducking trick ending in a clipper>run
Still skooling my ducking tricks. I have alot of trouble getting the sets high/accurate enough.

Keep it real
