Hi,
I thought this was pretty cool so I thought i should share it with everyone else. My friend who yo-yo's found this on some forum, and it looks actually decent. I'm not sure if this will do anything noticeable, but hey, nationwide exposure is good. On the other hand, I hope they contacted some freestylers.

My take on this would be more along the lines of: so-so. It's cool that they're making these, and 13 bucks is a great price for a 32 panel bag. However, such good prices leads me to question the not only the quality of the material and stitching, but also I wonder if they included features that pro stitchers include, like bleed holes to change the filler. And since the 32 is filled with sand, it'd prolly be a hell of a rigid bag, right? I dunno, I played a sand-filled 32 once and it wasn't really very shreddable, simply because it didn't weigh much.
Also, what freestyle videos are coming with it? Definitely a cool idea...but I wonder if they're really going to represent footbag properly.

I think it's cool.. even if it just shows the basic tricks, at least it'll get kids trying to freestyle at a young age. Most probably won't go anywhere with it, but when they're 15 or 16 and see some freestylers shredding, they'll remember their happy childhood playing with their footbag and be eager to get back into it 
I don't think bleed holes are much of an issue for beginners skippy.. and this bag doesn't look like it needs much break in there's not much gather on it.

After reading that press release, and looking at the cd, I noticed they have "Player Profiles". Who!? Are they showcasing oldschool players? or newschool? I'd laugh if I bought one of these and it had a Tom Mosher profile or something.

Ah sweet, It's cool they are making footbags. Is it me or do the footbags looke HUGE? If thats the size of a CD, then the footbags look like the size of a baseball!!! Judging from the package, it seems like they are targeting younger kids.

Competition-quality? Yeah, right... Anyway, I'll probably go and buy one just to see whats on the CD-ROM. I've got no problem at all with this. I think its a good thing, over-all. I think more people should play footbag, even if its not serious shred. I LOVE HACKY SACK AND HACKY SACKERS!will be releasing a line of three competition-quality footbags!

I haven't been online much recently, been in Zambia for a while, and a recent burglary at my house left me without a PC (and the internet), but here is some more info on this:
As far as I know, a couple of freestylers in Jo'burg, who are also into yo-yo's, contacted Duncan and convinced them to start selling footbags. Together they designed three different bags, that will make up the Duncan range. Unfortunately, nobody told me anything until after the bags were finished, and so regrettably the bags are not that good, not for freestyle in any case. They are a bit big and non-facile, but atleast they are better than crocheted bags.
I was then contacted by the guys in Jo'burg about doing some footbag related work, which I agreed to ofcourse. I only realized what it entailed when the guy from Duncan arrived in SA to film the CD-ROM. But it was alot of fun, and we got paid...yay footbag!
The instructional CD that comes with every Ducan bag has some basic freestyle moves on it, ie. basic kicks, basic stalls, and some 2-add moves. The choice of moves somewhat irked me, since I gave them a nice list of moves, outlining fundamental moves at each level etc., but that got lost somehow, so the day of the shoot, they had another list that was kinda whack. But in the end I got to them to put atleast some of the moves on that I thought should be there. I also tried to get them to put more advanced stuff on, but that was not really what they wanted, as their target market is total beginners, not people who is already into freestyle (since they probably won't buy Duncan bags to begin with)
In more recent news, about a week or two ago, they asked me if I want to go to the US to help them shoot a footbag commercial. They are paying my flight, hotel, meals, and $100 a day. That's if I can get my damned Visa organized in time. They said they want to contact a couple of players from the US aswell, but I don't have any more details on this.
PS: Although the bags aren't really that good, this will be a good thing for footbag. The exposure will be great, especially with the backing of a big-name company like Duncan. I wished they did more research with their bags, considering the fact that they did indeed knew about freestyle beforehand, but taking into account who their target audience is, they probably designed the bags they thought would best serve their audience.

I think this will definately help freestyle footbag!! Just calling them Footbags on the package rather then Hacky Sacks is already pretty sweet. A demo-disk?? That's gotta be SO good for the sport

as if it is so f%ç%&ing difficult to find out what a decent footbag should look like and as if it would be so f*ç%ing difficult to produce it at a competitive price.

who the hell is the south african footbag association? no disrespect, but there 1 million people they could and should have contacted if they were at all interested in footbag. how the hell can they claim to produce "competition quality footbags"?!?!?
take it from me: they're not interested in footbag at all. they're interested in selling more bags by appearing to the newbie eye as being the shit and totally "in scene" with footbag.
trust me, duncan will not be sponsoring any serious footbag tournament with a significant contribution next year or any year after and that's why i say the whole thing is whack and all you all should get real!

and you know who's laughing? pepsi, nestle, duncan, and all those companies who get dirt cheap credibility to fool the uneducated.
slowly i'm loosing faith in the footbag scene, seriously.
ask yourself:
- why is it that there is no serious footbag company in existance?
- why is there no serious footbag filmmakers in existance?
- why are footbag gods like vasek not even able to scratch something of a meagre living off of footbag?
- why is the ifpa so weak?
some of those answers you can find in posts like these where people brag about things they should actually be ashamed of. and where a company gets props for something they should be flamed for, especially by the "hardcore" footbag scene.

Everytime a kid sees footbag in a store is good. Everytime it is called footbag instead of hacky sack chips away at the misunderstanding our sport has. Each kid who sees tricks instead of just kicks and learns about freestyle could be the next big thing. Having footbag in stores, even if they suck, will bring these rare occurences to a more frequent level.
I find it amazing you cant even be optimistic about something like this.

If someone sees the word "footbag" and goes on google and searches for "footbag" they'll find .org and maybe Modified. It's publicity of the word and therefore can be good publicity for our sport.
