Video editing competition! - Due Janurary 20th!

Ok partially because there are no December comps, i've decided to host a video editing competition for all those interested.

The low down:
I need an intro video for the Novice Competitions video (see an example of Novice competitions HERE.).
Instead of whipping something up like I did for the open competitions, i've decided to leave this one up to you guys.

Rules:

Intro must be between 20-30 seconds long.

Intro must have a theme relating to 'Novice', 'Sick One' and 'Sick Three' footbag events (ie it has to have novices in it doing sick ones and threes).

The players in your intro video must be Novices.

Try to use good quality clips in your intro, blurry low quality footage will really let it down.

Your intro video should have the titles "Modified.ca Presents" and "Janurary 2005" and "Novice Competitions" in that order during the intro.

The main goal is to make the intro look cool. This is easy when you can put Vasek in it, but since you are making a Novice intro, it could be a challenge, try to use cool camera angles, effective zoom, and most importantly good editing techniques to make your intro a success!

How to enter:

Make your intro video and export it in an apropriate format to send to me over gmail ([email protected]) or msn ([email protected]). (Must be below 10mb to send over gmail).

I will cut together everybodies intros and release for everyone to see and compare.

The best one will be picked as the official Novice Competition Intro for the January Novice Competitions!!

The author of the intro used for the January competition will be fully credited for his or her contribution.

[edit] Handy hint: If you can't find any good novice footage, use some of the entrys from the November novice competition, and some of the entries from the previous competitions that were made by Novices.

so the sick 1 and sick 3 intro is going to be just 1 combined intro or two seperate ones?

Yep sorry I should clarify: There will continue to be one Novice competitoin video (so we only need one intro) and it will be both Novice Sick One and Novice Sick Three.

Can there be a video production contest where we just shoot, edit & submit a video of whoever hitting whatever and people judged based on how awesome it is?

Funny you should ask that. My plan was to host a competition just like that after this one finishes and if it goes well I would probably host one every few months. It would be more of a showcase of talent and an encouragement to people to get into editing footbag vids then a competition, kind of like everyone prepares their pieces and I throw them together into a nice exhibition for the comunity to see.

I dont think that is a good idea. I love competitions but i dont think everything has to be so organized. Its good with the monthly competition we have now. Other comps should be organized when people have time and really want to make one. It also makes it alot funnier. Like Mahoods Tripod Battle!
But try it out one time and see how it goes. Ill probably attend!

I don't get it lol.

Asmus: You may be right, but the thing is with those tripod battles only a few people are particiapating and they are anything but regular. I would really like to encourage new editors to join the scene and exisiting editors to streach their abilities a bit and I think an editing competition involving 30 second clips or something is a perfect way to do that. It's not too difficult to edit 30 seconds of footage, but if you only have 30 seconds then you need to be very wise about how you edit it

Can i join, i dont know if im novice or intermediate, i might be stuck between the two but im about to start my first filming of my shred tommorow and it will be my first crack at editing

Congrats to Ben Adler for winning this competitoin! He made a flippin awesome intro!
