Icing the pain

Post by hakkpakk »

Usually after bagging, I ice my shins and calfs for about 20 minutes. And then at night I use a heating pad on the same spots for about 20 minutes. Am I doing it right, or am I just supposed to use ice and not heat?!

I take it you have shin splints?
When I had shin splints, I noticed that stretching, SLOWLY warming up, and drinking lots of milk helped me.
Also, what kind work do you do? I used to lay carpet, so I was always on my knees, everyday. I would also get up and down, crouch, squat... a million times a day, and I think THAT was the main reason for my shin splints.
Sorry, but as far as ice and heat, im not too knowleged.

which part of your calfs?

the big muscly part, or the lower, thinner part?

unless your calf is injured, I think it might be bad to ice the upper part, but thats just a distance runner talking.
