Height & Footbag
Height & Footbag
I am 6'4'' and 170 lbs. I just wanted to know how height/size plays a role in footbag and if it would make it any harder to hit any moves.
Thanks alot.
Thanks alot.

well, it would harder to hit any ducking tricks I guess... if you're tall and lanky that means that you prolly have massive windows though, wich would be cool. I guess the worst body build for footbag (besides being legless) would be a guy with massive (tall) torso, super broad back, short stuby legs and really long arms. But even then, I'll bet you could be great if you really tried...

Height plays a certain roll, but everything else does also. Big add Chad has great shred and he is pretty tall. There aren't a lot of taller players that really bust. Lon Smith, Chad, Dylan are all prime examples that yeah, it's not gonna hold you back to really shred hard. At the same time, they can't hit a lot of the huge combos that you see players that are a foot or so shorter than them. Then again, not a lot of tall players are out there and tons of short players can't even come close to their skill.
I do believe though that about 5'4 - 5'8 would be prime. A lot of sports that require a lot of technique, precision, speed, and power have shorter people at the top ranks. When you're carrying another foot or so of body, you need to spend a lot more energy moving your limbs and such. Harder to maneuver and torque your body compared to someone with a lower center of gravity and such. Whenever I watch skate vids (inline) , my friend tells me how he is one of the only taller skaters and all the sickest ones out there are pretty damned short. A lot of other olympic sports you won't see really tall people dominating in sports that have similar aspects to footbag, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. So yeah, *nods head*, we still haven't really had a ton of exposure to really see how sizes really correlates to skill, but generally, I think size can hold you back to a certain degree.

I think height has a role, but compared to other things I think it is very marginal. Much more important than height is body proportions and build. Understanding of the sport, pliable muscles, flexibility, drive, etc... I am more and more of the opinion that the Vasek build is not the ideal build. Looking at some of the greatest players of the sport over the years, the majority is not made of shorter players. Pete, Ryan, and Vasek, yeah. But what about Lon, Ahren, Jorden, etc? All of them are of pretty average build, but the rest of what they have more than makes up for any supposed limitation due to height.

I'm (at this point) 183 cm or already a bit more, that's like...what, almost excactly 6'? My weight is 65 kg.
I don't think I'm really tall but my legs are long compared to my back. I can't say if it's the reason why I still haven't hit some tricks I'd like to hit.
I'd still put my money on "not enough practice".

I'm pretty tall(1.88 m) heavy(187 lb) player and feel comfortable hitting ducking and spinning stuff. I'd say my game is all about downtime, I usually have hard time hitting stepping and pixie stuff. PS whirl would pretty hard for me too even thought I can hit stuff like spinning ducking whirl and all other kinds of whirls(spinning, gyro) easily...so yea, don't be too worried about your height, you can still busts some crazy shit, it just might just somewhat deviate from norms. Make sure you get some good(spenco) insoles because you have greater impact on your lower body than average/small size players.

Yeah but think about the huge dex windows you'll may get if you practise the tricks clean!brinard wrote:im pretty tall... 6' even, and i weigh 160 lbs. some tricks seem pretty hard, because my legs are too long... i just started hitting illusion... fuck thats hard. stupid legs, being all long and such
Illusion might be hard in the beginning even if you've got intelligent and short legs.

5' 10" or 11" and 175 pounds. I'd say in general weight has more of an effect than height.

So what you are saying is that the bigger a footbager is, the lower the rate at which he hits tricks?Tsiangkun wrote:It's not what tricks are hittable that is affect by height, it's how big the tricks need to be to look good.
Size becomes a factor when an event is placed into a timed format, and the outcome is based on what was hit.
